Did anyone notice that not only Drew used " ..." in "Good luck, and ... right on, Commander. (Space before ellipsis)

But Salome did too in Ed's livechat? "You have to prepare blah, blah, blah for x and" ..."?

I think this is a rather good point. Or three points. Kinda like triangulation.

Hrmmmm.

Im going with this one. Obviously we cant call it or them anything but " ..." because they haven't been found yet...

I demand a full investigation of what points we should if we could - triangulate with while I sleep.

I will attempt to dream about it. Nggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggn........................................................ngnnnnn...ngn......nn..................zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. OH! A DRINK! ... .. . . . . . . ..... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I thought this extra space meant something too. Then I looked up the proper use of an ellipses. Turns out that the extra space is there because Drew is a better writer than the rest of us. I used to be a military journalist and still ... I've been using the ellipses wrong for decades. The extra space is supposed to go there.

From the Associated Press Stylebook:
ellipses.png

So, if treated as a word then it gets the leading space.

Uploaded a new video. I've decided to try and create a chronicle of my journey to the rift. To keep it interesting I'd like to include news, info and screenshots contributed by folks in this forum... If you don't want me to include any info from your posts... please let me know!

I just found a system with three black holes, not on the line, but not that far when you consider the size of the rift. here is TRADGOI AA-A H0 (Misc sheet). Already discovered, this system is not mentioned anywhere. at least I have found nothing about it. I don't know why, I can not upload a decent screenshot.

Tinfoil: Tradgoi / Targoid, almost an anagram of Thargoid. [alien]

In fact, if you use all if the system name, it actually is an anagram of Thargoid AAA -0...

Coincidence.... I think so. :D

Actually "Thargoid" is an Anagram of "Grid Oath" and since we have sort of made it our sworn duty to search the Formidine Rift grid-by-grid then ... WE are the THARGOIDS! [alien]

I'm reading Drew's "Oolite Sage" looking for anything that might provide a hint about the mystery of the Rift. I realize it is all unofficial and non-canonical. That said it does provide a window into the mind of the man who wrote Reclamation.

I just started reading Mutabilis, the second book of the saga and ran into something that might be pertinent to our deciphering this quest. The first sentence of Chapter one reads:
Larais was not a beautiful planet, in fact the Galactic Census entry was short, somewhat ‘tongue in cheek’ and to the point – 'This world is a revolting dump.'

Later in the same chapter as a ship is entering Larais' atmosphere we read:
'The census didn’t say anything about lightning strikes!' the first officer complained.

'Those guys had a sense of humour. You’ve just got to read between the lines – a re volt ing dump – get it?'

So ... that statement from Drew that
It's not locked to a rank. All you need is wanderlust, patience and an ability to read between the lines.

We need to revisit that statement. Mutabilis gives us an example of what Drew considers to be reading between the lines. We may need to look for words within words ... especially in any of his Rift/Salome-related Galnet articles.

I've been on travel for the last two weeks (few more days and I'm home and can play again). I've been following the thread every day and frankly most of the tinfoil lately has a fair amount of Saran Wrap mixed in. This on the other hand is a very nice bit of sleuthing. Well done.

Now I have to go back and re-re-reread his posts and books. I have another theory I'll likely post about once I get back. Too cumbersome to write it all down on the road and I'm missing most of my notes.

Excellent find. Would rep but can't again so +1 rep.

R and R have the same Z, so it is parallel with the Galactic Plane. Personally I am just ignoring Z. At 10 Kylie out a few hundred either way makes no difference, it is only a pointer after all (and a pointer to the Rift not to the target!)

The Formidine Sheet does all of that. If you want to make a local copy to use yourself, I have no way of stopping you, but contributing would be nicer.

Ok, thanks Dom. I assumed it was coming from an offline bit of code or something, I guess the maths are actually pretty straightforward and I see now that it's calculated directly in the sheet. Very nice.

Question? Does it make a difference of the R/R line position from a time when the old lady did her journey to today in Elite since our sun orbits the galaxy. Just wondering. Truk

I've repped you too much, so can't anymore. But have a mental rep. ;)

I'd say the whole galaxy orbits the core and stays rather uniform in the process, so perhaps not? I am no expert though. :)

Dark Gas giants are quite rare. They are usually Blue, Cream/Blue, Brownish, Greenish. So these black ones, you dont usually come across them all that often. This is only my 2nd in around 800 jumps. The first one didn't have any rings, but this one does, and it suddenly struck me as being a dark wheel. I imagine that the reference would be to something that was probably rare. This kind of body maybe a candidate for consideration.

This was my last one.

I love those. Dark and foreboding indeed!

In celebration I have commissioned my new ship... and finally decided on her name. My I present the Deep Space Exploration Vessel "Ouroboros":

Nice paint job ;) Asp looks lovely in blue...

That is a good question, but it's somewhere in the ballpark of 200 million years for a full revolution at Sol's distance from the core. Reorte and Riedquat may have moved enough to change the line in 50 years, but I doubt it.

Sorry for the delay guys... I've been compiling a journal of sorts of all the information uncovered and major finds so far ... I did promise I'd post up something over the weekend but IRL has gotten in the way a bit of my IGL (in-game-life? is that a thing??)

Anyway I hope to have the first draft finished tonight for y'all to peruse over and point out all the errors :D

In seriousness - it should be a good reference for us to return to and a great TL;DR; for anyone new coming into this. (Though it's not that TL;DR; as I'm up to nearly 8 pages in Word!!)

Even so it should be a quicker download than reading all the threads on this ... I look forward to your feedback :D

Does she have coordinates?

This is how I always read that part of the epilogue: they watch the holofac of the old woman talking to them, and when it's done they are left with 'just the text', which I assumed contained the co-ordinates the woman refers to in her spoken message.

As an armchair astrogator (never actually been there) I have a feeling that Erimus's area goes too far to the North. The Formidine Bridge actually being the edge, which makes the RR Line more central.
It doesnt really matter, it is only defined in Drews head, and 10 Kylie is plenty close enough.

+1 for the return of the smiling avatar. I have missed it.

So ... why is Salome so interested in chartography data and routes?

Does she have coordinates, but can't get there?

I don't know about the RP reason for it, but I'm starting to wonder if selling lots of data to CoR, we might get more clues from her more quickly...

Yes, they are a player group - but based on recent events, it sounds to me as if the Canonn are starting to be written into the UA storyline, so perhaps the Children of Raxxla are getting similar treatment regarding exploration.

They're where? Founders?
Dropping my exploration data from Beagle there when I'm back.
