The Formidine Rift - Part 2

Just curious about something here...

Has anyone been along the RR line WITHIN the core systems, locked onto Reorte and checked to see if there is "Something in the distance" Eg: a skybox galaxy or so that is in line with Reorte?

That might have been what Kahina was doing... tracing back systems to see if "X reliably marks the spot" as:

"Several places Kahina visited in the bubble line before disappearing line up with the ‘RR’ line"

Has this been done before, and if not, can someone go and do it?

Cheers,

Gypsy.

Hah! My apologies - that's what a hot bath does to my brain

Hot baths are always good.

Stage 7 of a star's life is when it becomes a Red Giant. It shines less brightly so could be dark. But I agree with others that perhaps a neutron star or black hole is what we are looking for. But a Red Giant also relates to 7 and not as bright as usual. Fishing in the dark here LOL

I did, but only a few systems on the end of the line. I noticed nothing special.

I went on to check my stats on my ship just for curiosity and I noticed something odd. I have Sol system permit, although I have never worked a single time for Fed. Is there any wider explanation for this and is this the case for others too? There was a comment from Mars High Astrocartography in the Galnet article related to Beagle Point expedition too:
"Scouting a route is all very well, and we applaud the achievements of these adventurers," said Karl Devene, head of Astrocartography at Mars High. "But these explorers should not be under the impression that these areas can be considered even partially charted. There is much that remains to be done."

Is it possible we are looking at wrong direction, where to sell the data? Maybe we should do it at Mars High.

Very nice work luckyluke. +rep if I could.

I have worked some more on the mythology clues, and I got some ideas :

  • Autolycus father was Hermes.
  • Hermes staff is the caduceus, Kahina's Imp. cutter name.
  • Hermes lent his sandals and helmet to Perseus.
  • Kahina ties nicely to the queen of aethiopians Cassiopeia.
  • Neptune moon include Nereids, cassiopeia story again.
  • Formidine = fear/dread is tied to the gorgon (dread), which where killed by perseus.

Seems to me that's an awfull lot tied to Cassiopeia/Perseus. Which are bordering constellations.

  • RR line is close to the border btw Cassiopeia and Perseus.
  • The part of Perseus that contains the milkyway is known for numberous dark clouds obscuring it.

Yet another space Madness induced pattern detection :p

Also, you reminded me Muetdhiver, moons of Mars are Deimos (Panic) and Phobos (Fear). [hehe] Which do not appear in the game apparently, huh?

Sorry for the delay guys... I've been compiling a journal of sorts of all the information uncovered and major finds so far ... I did promise I'd post up something over the weekend but IRL has gotten in the way a bit of my IGL (in-game-life? is that a thing??)

Anyway I hope to have the first draft finished tonight for y'all to peruse over and point out all the errors :D

In seriousness - it should be a good reference for us to return to and a great TL;DR; for anyone new coming into this. (Though it's not that TL;DR; as I'm up to nearly 8 pages in Word!!)

Even so it should be a quicker download than reading all the threads on this ... I look forward to your feedback :D

Nice seeing it all together.

Kahina is the third daughter, so third planet from a star? Planets are the daughters of star no? That might be something.

What we do know is that we don't know what we're looking for. It's possible we still won't know even if we find it. Perhaps it's not even some 'thing' to find. Perhaps we won't know until we sell it and perhaps even then we wont know but only Frontier will know the who when and where it's sold.

Because this search is so vague as they've said before "player actions can determine the course of the game" there's no reason to assume they are always upfront and specific like competing CG's. So much of the game has been in the form "here's a universe go run around in it to figure out how it works", we mostly know about how it works by testing efforts to debug where it looks broken so there's no reason to assume a game plot mechanism can't be hidden as well. Drew did say in his clarification post of what he meant to imply that we has referring to exploration data in an overall general sense.

As for clarifications posts, why bother. There's nothing anyone can say that can't be taken the wrong way and no clarification what won't require further clarification or magnification, amplification, de-noising, delousing, deconstruction, reconstruction, dereconstructon all the while risking turning yourself into the blackbox the mystery of the universe can be derived from firing a non-stop string of balls at and recording the direction of the bounces. So what if some tool like me spends months trying to decode the dark wheel symbol, there's more wrong turns than right anyway. We want you to only go down intended wrong turns but not unintended ones?

Just sayin there's other possibilities than find the easter egg and deliver it to a specific station. I think that's one of the least likely mechanisms.

Regards the transcript of the convo between Ed and Salome another commander chipped in with something like 'All Hail Salome,,,,Only the Children can carry the message",,,I edited it out because it wasn't between Ed and Salome, looked like some one peeping in with their personal roleplay and adds unnecessary smoke and contradicts what Salome was saying which due to the way Salome scrolled looked a prepared canned statement from beginning to end. I suggest people actually watch it and make up their own mind.

Dark Gas giants are quite rare. They are usually Blue, Cream/Blue, Brownish, Greenish. So these black ones, you dont usually come across them all that often. This is only my 2nd in around 800 jumps. The first one didn't have any rings, but this one does, and it suddenly struck me as being a dark wheel. I imagine that the reference would be to something that was probably rare. This kind of body maybe a candidate for consideration.

This was my last one.

Cool. Wouldn't have known of these were it not for this. How's mine? Just found it a few minutes ago deep in the rift. Rings, Ammonia-based life, and everything!

Yep I agree, stick to the facts and anything that doesn't pertain to the cause should be left out as it just adds noise and distractions for some folks who hop in without reading the first page. Tinfoiling is one thing as it may create a lightbulb moment, but our best friend in this mystery is logic.

If you bought the game before the release date then you got the Sol permit as a perk. Everyone who preordered got that one.

If anyone would like to assist in Rifting, but has no desire to do Full Sub Sector scans, we might have a job for you.

Wanted : Pilots to fly the RR Line and record any Sub Sectors they see using the simple Google Form (no need to enter your CMDR Name unless you also want to scan the sub sector). If you are mega-lazy, you can even miss out the Approx Coords and leave it to the Chimps to look them up.

I'm in that category, I think. If I read the map on the spreadsheet correctly, I'm actually almost dead on the line. PHOI AESCS RX-L D7-0 specifically as of this moment.

What qualifies as interesting within the context of the rift?

And about sectors. I'm finding that some systems within a sector can be separated by as much as 600ly, and can be rather difficult to access some parts of. I might do more searching if it were possible to complete a designated search area without having to use multiple doses of Jumponium just to get to one obscure system that's inexplicably removed from the rest. As an example of what I mean, PHOI AESCS TV-C D-13 and C-26 are very far apart from one another. If it were more coordinate based, say a cubic region like -8170, -0, -6780 x -8170, 30, -6780 x -8100, 30, -6840 (approximately where I am) and then there wouldn't be quite so much needless jumping about.

Really after yesterday I'm going to start sacrificing chickens over the map again.

Should probably report this as a bug as I thought it was a bug that had been fixed. Decided to start scan the sectors on the New outer arm at the edge of my reachability specifically OOB AEB, entered that and scrolled through them all 66 systems 99 planets, got close enough for routing and wonderful all unreachable by me, job well done entire sector scanned. Then looked above for the next closest to that and surprise a whole pack of OOB AEB sectors reachable that did not show up cycling through the sector. I think they'll all show cycling thru sector name and first letter of the sub-sector but haven't made totally sure yet.

So that ol' bug might be back.

My path here took me pretty close to the line. I did fine quite a large number of Ammonia World's near the line. Quite a few neutron stars as you go higher up.

I don't expect it to be related to Formidine Rift either, but Beagle Point data had been discussed a bit here, so tossed it out hoping someone considers it. I watched the thing live and yeah it was still vague. Just pointed out one section from the Galnet article, as Drew mentioned sometime there is enough in the game and in the pieced segments from the books. I was not part of the expedition, so all I can do is throw out crumbs from my thought process. Even if they are silly, I believe the collective minds here can filter those parts out. Just curious to see what happens really with it all.

I guess that must be it... I was pretty certain I had not visited Sol exactly for it requiring the pass though. Now I feel double dumb. Obviously nothing there then. [noob]

And I just realized I keep saying Beagle Point, Beagle Point, but I got your point, Lorrad. There just rarely is quite that much data, as what you'd get from traveling across the whole galaxy. The sheer amount makes it rare occasion at least. :)

Some fun "inside" one of the black holes of Tradgoi AA-A h0. I did not know that we could come so close to a black hole (1m), I'll take the opportunity to check if any of the three would not be a wormhole. [noob]

WOW!

How did you get to within 1m?

Ive tried several ways to try and get in, but failed miserably... Still rekon that somehow BHs can be wormholes, or allow you to make something like a black hole jump...
