The Formidine Rift - Part 2

Fantastic work there! Thanks for doing it so we don't have to :D
One thing bothers me for some time. During beta wasn't the playable area smaller? I've been playing since day one but not the beta times.
If the mystery was finalised during gamma but it's discoverable since beta than...so wasn't the space limited?
Finalised in gamma does not mean it was solveable. But in your glossary I saw it was discoverable during beta. I saw that statement before and was looking for it for some time but didn't find the actual statement yet.

I as far as I remember the space was limited at the start of standard beta, but it became infinite during standard beta.

Closed Beta space was a sphere.

Standard Beta space was elongated from a sphere into a pill.

Gamma opened the Galaxy for exploration.

Am I the only one who thinks "Formidine Rift" and hears the ending theme song to "Animal House" in my head?

...I'm probably not the only one now. You're welcome everybody. :D

I just realised whats making me all      y and whiney...its the bubble, I need to get back out there...

NW got one to head for

Probably grasping at straws, but what direction the pill was elongated in? What area it encompassed?

If you do a google image search for "elite dangerous galactic pill" you'll find a number of images showing basically the area of space that the pill encompassed.

Platinium enhanced super tinfoil hat on alert!

That Right on Commander, ROC. It is EBP in ROT13, but If we do it backwards (13 letters from Z to backward) we use ROT14 so the ROC = FCQ

FCQ = Fourier Correlation Quotient

Google gives some interesting reading about the space https://www.google.com/?ion=1&espv=2#q=Fourier+Correlation+Quotient

Doing ROT13 backwards is still ROT13. No idea why you decided to go one more as 'ROT14'.

Edit: as mentioned below, you may be referencing an alphabet with more than 26 letters. ROT13 is largely assumed to be working with the 26 letter alphabet :)

Thanks, I had tried beta region and beta map, but didn't get a good hit.

Tried to check the region in map, and the pill seemed to be roughly in RR direction, but hard to say with some of the systems not really matching the names anymore (at least mel 20 sectors didn't show up). In any case, I guess that is going too deep into the tinfoil realm. I expected the region having been bigger and perhaps spanning closer to the rift.

I do not know if it can interest someone, but here's a list of neutron stars, black holes and stuff like that, that I met in the Rift or nearby.

Nice! I appreciate this. We really need to do as much as we can to map POI not only IN the Rift region but along the way TO it. These high value targets can help draw people to the quest. More people will be willing to join the effort if we hit them in the profit motive.

I might have made an error in my document - Drew's previous comment was that this was finalised in gamma - which I suppose would have meant when the whole galaxy was playable. I thought I'd written gamma in my journal - I'll double check and fix as necessary :) (and see if I can find the original post for reference.)

I'm headed back to the bubble now. I'm curious about the player faction CGs that are happening in a week or so's time...

WayPoint Suggestion!

Hey Rifters!

Not adding anything to the debate, but suggesting a possible WayPoint/meeting basecamp! Would take place in the 'extended' search area, as it is far beyond the Rift, on the edge of the New Outer Arm. Nice view, unusual colors (green and orange), mountains, craters, plains, the whole package. Intel below. It's on the RR line.

Dryo Aeb ZX-S c17-0
Planet 2
Rocky Ice World ; 0.15G
Contains : Carbon, Tin, Nickel, Manganese, Iron, Chromium, Selenium, Phosphorus --- Niobium and Antimony.
Basecamp coordinates : -74,01 : 122,07.
Distance from Sol : 19465.53ly

Spotted a nice site, that you can visually check below. Above the basecamp (beware the steep slope ahead, but it gives a great view), there's a little nest, quite tricky to land on, but great place.

Enjoy!

Looks awesome! Just logged out so I'm not sure how far I am from here.

EDIT: Coming from the South, I had to jump from DRYEAE AEB II-K D8-0 to DRYEAE AEB SL-U C16-0 to enter the pocket where this system is. The jump is 34,96ly.

EDIT2: Currently backtracking in order to continue... Jumponium more than advised to go on forward from there.

Compiled tinfoil notes

Hello commanders,

As promised, I went full tin-foil and examined the current data anew (much focus on Galnet and reading between the lines) with tired but fresh eyes. I excluded the localisation of the Rift because that has been done by Erimus et al., instead I focused on the events leading up to today that possibly could offer further leads and confirm or falsify any theory that is floating around.

I am currently parked just before the bridge over the rift, but will be away on a business trip the coming weeks and will not be able to contribute in the search.

The Sunday afternoon was spent with a hot brew of zero-G coffee and I managed to gather my thoughts and compile my notes as a presentation since I wont be able to take it further at the moment.

My notes are available as pdf in following link:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/zz6nnthk6qjw80y/Conclusions as of 17 APR 3302.pdf?dl=0

Disclaimer:

Use it as however you feel fit, since its notes and work in progress, all of it probably wont make sense outside of my head. Looking at my notes so far I found that they offered more questions than answers and that the only real conclusion was that the search its just like looking for a needle in a haystack, without exactly knowing where the haystack is located, what hay is, and if the the stack actually is made from this mysterious herbaceous material. I guess it needs to be properly cross-checked against what we actually now in the main goggle docs documents.

My honest opinion now is also that crunching assorted words with the intent of using diverse ciphers and mathematical models extract hidden co-ordinates will just confuse more than it will help (it wont stop me from trying though...)

Fly safe and apparently "right on", commanders!

Greetings fellow explorers.

I am new to the forums, and the area known as the Rift. Although I am on a return trip from the far side of Sag A, so the galaxy, and exploring is nothing new.

Reading clues/theories with interest I am currently in the rift itself searching. Not heading in any particular direction, but registering my interest on here to keep upto date with developments.

One thing Drew said keeps bugging me, that we should learn to read between the lines or something like that, I believe it may refer to the galaxy arms either side the rift, and whatever we seek is between them, probably on some perilious route devoid of stars, but whatever/whereever it is, is reachable with normal jumps. Thats just my mad theory anyway, im sure someone will correct me and that ive missed something.

This idea crossed my mind few times too. Also, why name it Formidine Rift, why not Rift of Fear/Dread? Maybe For-mid-ine (as re-volt-ed mentioned earlier in this thread); mid - in the middle of the Rift (or something else)? Only thing is, that it's in contradiction with the Old Lady sayings about crossing the rift.
