As an avid explorer..... my 2¢:
Old way:
- During fuel scoop, HONK
- Find either 1-2 or 35-50 bodies in a system.
- Decide if I want to explore all of them or not.
- Some yes, some no. Sometimes none of them.
- If all of them, could take me 45 minutes to do the entire system.
- Travel to the next system delayed by 45-60 minutes.
- Getting to a distant destination could take many, many months doing that.
Result: Less time spent scanning rocks but less money from exploration.
New way:
- During fuel scoop, HONK.
- Note number of bodies discovered.
- Move away from the star for about 30-40 seconds.
- Throttle to minimum.
- Activate FSS
- Depending on how many stellar bodies in a system, 5-7 minutes for entire system scan including asteroid belts.
Result: Full system scan from a single position within 5-7 minutes meaning much more money from exploration.
To OP: your mileage may vary, of course, but personally I love the FSS based on the short amount of time it takes to complete a full system scan. I believe I'll keep it, thanks.
