The FSS Function

Any chance this could be just gotten rid of. It does nothing but add unnecessary levels of stupid and frustration.
That'd be great.

I also hope not. It's one of the best things that has happened to Elite Exploration.

I love it. As someone who is on the DW2 expedition the FSS has allowed me to scan every body in every system I visit along the way without falling behind. Scanning a system is so much quicker now. Thanks Frontier!

As an avid explorer..... my 2¢:

Old way:

  1. During fuel scoop, HONK
  2. Find either 1-2 or 35-50 bodies in a system.
  3. Decide if I want to explore all of them or not.
  4. Some yes, some no. Sometimes none of them.
  5. If all of them, could take me 45 minutes to do the entire system.
  6. Travel to the next system delayed by 45-60 minutes.
  7. Getting to a distant destination could take many, many months doing that.

Result: Less time spent scanning rocks but less money from exploration.

New way:

  1. During fuel scoop, HONK.
  2. Note number of bodies discovered.
  3. Move away from the star for about 30-40 seconds.
  4. Throttle to minimum.
  5. Activate FSS
  6. Depending on how many stellar bodies in a system, 5-7 minutes for entire system scan including asteroid belts.

Result: Full system scan from a single position within 5-7 minutes meaning much more money from exploration.

To OP: your mileage may vary, of course, but personally I love the FSS based on the short amount of time it takes to complete a full system scan. I believe I'll keep it, thanks.
