PvP The Git Gud Guide to Trading in Open (or just surviving in general)

Nice try.
But why would I do all that when I can just trade in Solo?
I mean no offense. But there is Zero advantage in Trading in Open.
Only Risks for which I need precautions that cost me Cargo Capacity :)

Some people enjoy trading in Open just for the setting. Some of those lose too many ships due to wrong decisions. The video helps those players :)

People who make Illogical Decisions deserve to lose Ships :p

Rule Number 1 for any Good Trader is to take as little Risk as Possible.
Taking on Risks on Purpose. From a Traders Perspective is a Fallacy. And Deserves to be Punished. :)

What advantage would you like to see by trading in open?
@OP great vid - cracks me up every time I see it. It also helps stop trading ships from doing the same.

I think a simple risk / reward functions is all anyone has EVER asked for

Thats a great point. Thank you for another proof that the modes are unbalanced. You are right, the game risk vs rewards are a broken mess. You have absolutely nothing to gain when trading in open, same rewards as in solo with the additional risk of PVP outfitted ships hunting you down.

One of the best vids in ED.

Unfortunately even A rated shields with 2 stock boosters will not be enough vs engineers 3.0 with the massive buffs in dps and speed. Even if you survive the 15 sec with 50% hull, most likely your cargo hutch is busted and you lost majority if not all your cargo which is probably worse than a rebuy.

Stock defences have no chance against engineered weapons.

The video gets you thinking in the right direction, though. That's where it's value lies. It doesn't guarantee survival but it should highlight the important points of weakness that will need to be addressed in engineering/piloting a successful Open Freight build. You'll fail missions, you'll eat rebuys, you'll lose credits. Less and less and less...

Brilliant except for the swearing. :)

Brilliant because of the swearing, actually. I know Brett doesn't think it's a good reflection on the community, but its pretty telling that this video, really just an expression of incredulity that it needs to be said in the first place, is so widely regarded as the most useful videos pertaining to the game.

My rebuttal to Brett would be that what's really a "poor reflection on the community" is that they've allowed a forum perception to persist that survival isn't possible in a trade ship and the outcome of an encounter with gankers is inevitable.

If you're fit with rinzler's fit, I would go out of my way to kill you for wasting internals for a shield generator instead of a cargo rack. Stop fitting to kill your already poor capacity

....

Never mind the cargo....it's the indelible image of my favourite rabbit, Flopsy, floating away into the void that will haunt me forever.

EDIT: Oh "hatch"?

So Rinzler, based on some comments by That90skid - would you say its possible for anyone to learn how to git gud and avoid death at the hands of gankers, or its something that only the cool kids can handle?

Getting good at basic survival is something anyone can do, providing they have a growth mindset.

I've been saying quite loudly to anyone who would listen that the PvP sub was the forum garbage disposal. I'd love to see the curators prove me wrong for the first time in however many months it's been a thing.

It's unfortunate that aspiring players need to seek places other than the official forums for combat advice, due to the "signal to noise ratio" here.

I guess it's part of that bad boy moniker some PvPers aspire to have, to have a potty mouth? Seriously Jason, I just don't get it. Rinzler makes an excellent, informative and funny tutorial that the ENTIRE Elite: Dangerous community could use, and chooses to narrate it like a disgruntled sixth grader. It's a crying shame if you ask me. Potential wasted. But I guess it's a question of target audience.

You don’t have to ask Rinzler.
My commander has yet to be killed by a player, Three and a half years and still waiting for that gank.
I must smell or something. :(
