PvP The Git Gud Guide to Trading in Open (or just surviving in general)

I guess it's safe to say that you'll need to be some sort of adrenaline junky, right?

Although the game has some exciting moments, I would say "adrenaline junkie" is a tad dramatic.

It's just pixels. They are not even my pixels - I paid Frontier for a license to use their stuff. It's a very safe environment for a bit of friendly fun and competition of wits and skill where no one's getting hurt :)

Thanks for your answers. It was indeed an open question and all you told me was basically what I've expected. Nothing what would convince me to change my own preferences though. I guess it's safe to say that you'll need to be some sort of adrenaline junky, right? I'm not and that probably explains why this isn't for me. I'd need at least some "sense" in doing so, a bit of encouragement and if it would be the most trivial symbolic extra credit gain. Or if it would be an interesting challenge at least. Without such a desire I would just feel.. [wacko].

And yes I agree, just for once, with ALGO: The game isn't really providing any incentives in this direction. But I'm ok with that, no bad feelings and I'm certainly not bored without it. :)

I didn't mean to belittle this guide. It's a good one and who knows, one day I'll probably make good use of it...

What I don't really get though is why you guys need to snap at each other. It's hard to see from my point of view how the difference in the content of your words wold justify that. Is it something personal? Or perhaps a case of testosterone excess? :p

It's more of a case that the game is a mostly barren wasteland filled with lifeless, uninteresting NPC's who provide no challenge or even something to engage your mind. Human players give the game the life it so desperately needs, whether they harbor harmful or benign intentions. Without human interactivity, trading is reduced to simplistic token pushing with little to engage a seasoned players senses.

That is a long ways away from being an "adrenaline junky."

Does "adrenaline junky" sound somewhat disparaging? If so, please take my apologies.
Just to let you know, sometimes I call myself an immersion junky.
Wouldn't be offended in the slightest if someone would call me so...
I'm still not comfortable with the nuances of English spelling.

Not at all, CMDR. I just wanted to point out that the desire to trade (or conduct ANY activity, really) in Open was much more about meaning than adrenaline. Though, the adrenaline can be nice at times, too.

All I'm asking for is at least the same options in Open as I currently have in Solo.

In Open you have different options - you can get help from friends, travel in a wing etc. The choices are different. I don't think it's harder, just a different kind of challenge. Depends on where you go of course ;)

Different options is not the same as same options. I prefer to fly alone and that's what I always did, even in the times were I actually was flying in Open exclusively, something I even do nowadays every once in a while, cause what and where I fly is pretty much irrelevant if I'm doing it in Open or Solo. And that's where all these proposals will fail as players like me will unavoidably undermine these ideas. I'm not interested in CGs for instance and since I'm also not interested in any ingame socializing I would just prefer low frequency systems.

And that's why all these "bonus systems" for playing in Open would generally give players like me an unnecessary and undeserved advantage. Don't let me even start with the technical hurdles these ideas will face...

I'll be frank picommander, I'm not sure that any of what you are saying is a reason not to take on board what the OP is saying. It is good advice.

Awesome - not sure how I've missed this but I've now added it to the "manuals, guides and other stuff for new players" section of my "Best of Forum" thread.
Told you guys :)

Perhaps the same thing Alec has done.

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/404657-Alec-s-best-of-the-forum-(and-elsewhere)-v2

One thread with links to the most informative/fun/useful threads plus general tips & tricks.

The advantage being, it can be maintained by someone you guys deem worthy to speak here, instead of them meddling plebs.

About the above idea of a link collection, actually Cmdr Greedy Raider of Lave already did it:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...lls-in-the-battle-to-become-the-next-champion

Nice thread - I'll take it! :p

See the "ships, weapon stat's, combat tips, etc" section over here: Alec's-best-of-the-forum-(and-elsewhere)-v2

That needs pinning at the head of this forum

P.S. my thread is permanently sticky in "Dangerous Discussion".

Absolutely - love your work! When I have a project on at work then your page provides some welcome procrastination!

I mean pinned to the top of this PvP sub forum, as we don't have any pins yet
