Howdy folks ;-)

Am about to purchase a laptop with the following specs:-
i74800MQ, 16gb RAM, GeForce GTX870M w/3Ggb GDDR5

Hoping anyone who has played the current beta on similar specs (or anyone with experience in these matters really :D) could shed some light on what kind of experience I can expect playing Beta (will be #2 most likely purchased on the weekend) with a setup like this

Cheers :)

The Maxwell 880 series cards are scheduled for the 28 nanometers for the last quarter of 2014 and 20 nanometers for the first quarter 2015. According to the rumors. It is worth wait, I think

I have an AMD R9 290 4GB GPU, is this good enough to run ED at 60fps @ 1900x1200 on highest settings?

It cost just under £300 so I hope it is

I'd say you're pretty good. I'm sure others will have a more educated opinion but.

I have a similar card, the Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X 4GB OC and can tell you it will have absolutely no problem running E : D at both High Settings and 1900x1200

Here are my Fraps FPS details when flying in and around the new Orbis Station on the newly optimised PB 2

Avg: 89.490 - Min: 85 - Max: 93

I just hope it will be beefy enough to give me a smooth experience with the new Oculus Rift DK2, though that will not be an issue for a while yet, I probably won't invest in one until full release.

I do not think that ED should be targeted towards the gamers extreme platforms. If it can be fully expressed in the high end of computer, it is perfect. But it must also target the smaller platforms. ED must benefit to the largest possible number of people

I am currently running I7, 32 gb RAM and a gtx 780m...
I can run the DK1 on high settings with a frame rate of 60 fps (vsync) with no problems...
But I have just invested heavily in a water cooled rig running a gtx 780 ti in prep for the DK2, which I want to run on high settings at 75 fps.

Hope this helps :)

my new (and glowey) Lenovo Erazer (x510) runs ED effortlessly on max settings. I don't even have to hit the overclock key.

Its got a Nvidea GeForce 760 GTX with 2GB ram.

And no! I can neither confirm nor deny that I bought this system just to enjoy Elite Dangerous....

Hey SlackR

Thanks for the reply. Yep that helps heaps ;-) That gives me a good idea of how I'll fair. I suspect it will be a case of 'suck it & see'; try the single player @ highest res with all the settings turned up, see what framerate we can squeeze out of it, if it's too low start dialling things down a bit, etc, etc (and repeat with the multiplayer).

Cheers :)

GTX 770 4GB card for around 200 pounds. That's what I'm looking at and dreaming about at the moment.

Ooh, where did you find a 4GB GTX 770 for £200? I only seem to find them pushing closer to (or over) £300.

And so you lot can have a good laugh, my E : D box is running Intel 4600 (integrated) graphics, backed by an i7 4770K 3.5Ghz and 16Gb 1600 DDR3 RAM. And to be honest it's doing a fair job. Premium Beta 2.0 certainly sped up and smoothed things out quite a bit. I've even managed to capture full-screen gameplay video with a software-only setup, but that's suffering from high compression degradation for the time being.

The graphics card was always going to be the last component I selected for the build as I guessed it'd be a minefield of options and configurations.

But now the time has come to take the plunge and get something. I was recommended to go for previous generation NVidia card of x80 designation, i.e. the GTX 680, on the grounds that the lower-numbered cards of the 7xx range are usually just marginally re-hashed versions of the previous x80 line anyway. Is this true of the current 7xx line?

Looking at the prices of the 680, that could be true but as I'm buying something that I hope will last for at a couple of years before it's considered under-powered I want to get it right, and I don't have a large budget either.

Having said that, this box is exclusively for E : D so I only really need to make that shine.

All suggestions welcome. Thanks for listening!

i currently have the AMD A10 5700 APU, with 512 mb dedicated to the IGP, and 4 gb usable (10 gb total, for some reason the computer came with that), is it possible to run elite (with any reasonable frame rate) on this? im building a new pc, but i want to play now before the parts all arrive. thanks for any help!

Might be playable on low, 30fps I guess.
