Since ]M[ suggested a bring a few of my recent screenshots here...
Recently took an excursion to NGC 6537. This particular ringed iceball had been spotted before, but nobody had ever taken time to scan it or land on it. Since I have a weakness for planets with both bio and geo signals, I figured I'd go be the first.
The nebula looked a little faded from the ground, but aligned nicely with the primary planet. Sometimes you get lucky with the cosmic clockwork.
Neon worlds do have cool sunrises, but they definitely feel 20 degrees colder than they are because of it. Suspect these geysers aren't the nice warm kind we have back home either!
One quick change of suit cosmetics later, I finally found some bacterial colonies. This, it turned out, earned me the Taxonomist and unlocked the nice blue helmet to match the rest of the suit.
Feeling a bit chilly after that, I found a (somewhat) warmer CO2 world to follow.
Unfortunately this planet led me on a very disappointing 6 hour hunt for bark mounds that I had to conclude were simply not there. I dropped down on about 8 different locations, went back to space to spot the biggest crater and splash lines where apparently they like to hang out, buzzed around it for ages; nothing. Even tried scouting on foot, just in case.
You can't hear it in this picture, but I am loudly cursing this 6-kilometer depression for it's emptiness.
In the end, I had to call it quits and come back because I have limited flight time this week and don't want to miss the end of civilization, and so this morning I got a chance to tick off a bucket list item; this beautiful ringed moon at G 108-26.
Again, thanks to CMDR Rosefine for sharing this stunning location with the Stellar Screenshots thread a while back. I think I will make it my new home base.
Be wary of getting that cool wind in your hair...
