Thanks for the feedback all; there will be an exploration section at some point, watch this space!

For now, the combat section is complete. I'd love to get a bit of feedback on this bit, it's a tricky area to write about so I'd love to hear if any (or all!) of it is unclear or needs more explanation.

Stay dangerous!

Wow... all that and not one mention of scanners and exploring.

This isn't an official guide it's only compiled by players reporting on their experience, if something is missing it's because someone who knows about that part of the game hasn't posted anything here yet.

Awesome info!

I just wanted to say "Thanks!" for this information. It has already proven to be EXTREMELY helpful.

Cheers!

- When you jump to a system, you arrive near to its primary star (the top star when looking at the system view); the other stars will likely be a *long* drive away so be careful about where you think you're landing. In general it's better to ignore any station that's not around the primary star - it's too far to bother travelling there.

I don't think that's always true. When you jump to LHS3447, you get thrown out at Gliese 748.2B, not at LHS3447. That means that Lawson Orbital, the no commodities market station orbiting a Gliese planet is only 1000kLS away, while all the other stations orbiting LHS3447 planets are 120kLS away.

Thanks for the heads up Quineloe, I've updated the guide with that proviso and I'll add more information if and when it becomes available. I think the rule still stands for the vast majority of cases though. If anyone has any data on the subject please let us know!

Added a section on reputation. Getting close to complete now!
And coincidentally I just added +1 to your forum Rep! Huge effort involved here, thanks for putting it together!

The info on station to star distance based on the planet orbit length helped me immensely. Is there a way to convert orbit days into Ls (even an approximation will do)?

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a linear conversion between the two, even a rough one. For instance the planet/station I'm parked at right now has an orbital period of 362 days and is just over 1000Ls from the star, but Earth at 365 days is only ~500Ls from Sol.

It's still a useful guide though, if you see a planet with an orbital period of less than 100 days you know it'll be a short trip from the star; just be careful that you're checking the orbital period of the 'main' planet the station is around and not the 'moon' it may be around (because the moon will show you how long it takes to orbit that planet, not the main star).

Edit: Actually I've just noticed that the "Semi Major Axis" of this planet is about 2 AU (Earth is 1 AU), so there might be a linear relationship there; I'll do some testing in the morning.

Not always top star on the system map is where you enter the system. Be wary. Maybe it is bug, but I saw it in few systems. I ticketed it.
