The hunt STARTED on the 28th...apparently!

The bottom line is that ED dropped the ball with this event; they did not have to meet players in person, they could have scripted an npc to send messages to players and pass on the next clue based on any number of triggers, they could if they had bothered, even offer a basic conversation with said npc, with yes no, or multiple choice responses; other games have been doing so for years.

Couldn't agree with you more. The fact is if they had of scripted an NPC, EVERYONE, could have taken part.
Instead it was limited to open only and handful of players who manged to share the instance,

The whole thing could have been played out via special missions and npc tip offs - hell they spent enough time revamping them during the last upgrade, or so we were told... why not utilize the mission engine for something more interesting than ferrying stuff from a to b !

But what actually happened tonight? Is it over, still going on or what?

Not really sure to be honest , seems like all the hype surrounding today was alot of hot air not really going anywhere.

What happened to all the talk of weve discovered something , the truth ... is it 42? Or a fading screen 'the end'.

So far it appears that after we solved the when and where each of the story driving players would show up, in each case it turned into another deliver quest. One wants drugs, the others want tobacco and brandy. Assuming each of these get completed they'll give us another clue. The clues will likely lead to whatever frontier wants us to find.

My curiosity has faded though. This whole "the princess is in another castle." event was pretty lame. I'm half expecting the mystery location only to lead into a black box recovery or data delivery. All dragging out to the 2.2 release.

It wouldn't be so bad if the bulk of the players interested could even participate. I was in open waiting and waiting only to have someone say on chat. "Looks like it already happened 10 minutes ago in this system. Different instance."

I was looking forward to this. what I was expecting was some alien wreck or an intresting hint.

But the gang playing a game at us just feels artificial and a waste of a great fictional universe.

Its not the worst thing to have happened in fiction , nor even the worst that happened in elite's fiction (that would be the master chefs and rise to power)

I am still intrested in this narative , but it being a gang that wants to play a game... just feels off
But I reserve my judgement until this is over , maybe it will all make sense afterall FD did say someone is making a new war happen , maybe its this gang or something

Yeah I'm disappointed too, they have to do the puppet master act just to fill the game with content, bad form bad form indeed.

So what happened, then? (I'm on my way back to Jaques)

Nothing, it was a total shambles and wasteof time, even for those that managed to meet the NPC commanders.

Got another riddle, got no real immersion, got ganked by Open PVP griefers.... including the FDEV Controlled NPC's which got owned by SDC for most of the night.

Everyone should have stayed in bed for this one.

I wont be rushing to find out whats happening in the next one, ill read it on the forums and if it seems worth 10 minutes of my time i might have a look at some point.

(First of all, I'm sorry if my english is not good :S)

I know the feeling :( I spent a whole day hunting clues without nothing else but frustration.
Anyway, there's something is annoying me hard. I knew that some issues could appear during the event with all those players in the same system at the same time. But I knew too that the info would be share really quickly in the forums and in-game chat and... it was like I thought but one thing: I've readen a lot of threads and docs about what the characters said in the local chat. But I've not readen a single lane about what they said when you buy the second clue (with drugs, tobacco or drink respectively).

Any idea about why? Isn't that info shared like other or it was just because not a single player get any "second" clue at all?

I can't count the threads anymore where people complain about the same fact.
Why can't you just simple use an existing thread? Why creating another same duplicate?

Maybe because we don't care about forum etiquette when we are sold "A HUNT BEGINNING ON THE 28th!!! SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY!" And really it's just lame mission runs and not even a hint of a reveal. Not even a hint of where we are supposed to find this wreck. That's all they had to do. They had 1 job. Give hints to the location of this wreck. That's it. And we could have spent months searching. But no. They decided ridiculous extortion was the answer.

ridiculous it was.

I'm on a -5 time zone and play in the evenings so this was a waste of time. Hardly any info in GalNet, so to even find out about it you had to spend hours on the forums and youtube. Opened Galnet today expecting to find a clue, only a repeat of the -weve found something- message, then went to the forums to find out about the griefing and general disappointment. Surely FD can come up with a mission engine capable of being given a scripted story line that people can play Solo or Open and at a time that suits them.
