I just got interdicted by an honorable pirate
Since the very beginning of my journey, I’ve always played in Open Play. It seems that doing so makes things a lot more interesting, since you can never know what to expect or who you will be interacting with. Everything looks and feels a bit more dangerous that way.
Despite this, I can count as very few the encounters I’ve had with human commanders.
Today I was en route on my current trade route with my recently acquired and quite decently outfitted Type-7 when, all of a sudden, I got interdicted.
When the interdiction warning sounded at the cockpit, I had my attention somewhere else (you know, trading can be a repetitive task and is difficult not to get distracted from time to time), so my reaction was a bit late and I could not regain the advantage that my interdictor had already taken.
So of we went from super cruise and I said: “well, let’s see what we’ve got”. At the scanner showed up a Cobra MK3: ”CMDR …”
OK –I said to myself - it is not a dull NPC ship, things start getting interesting…
I thought of running, but decided to ask the pilot about his intentions when I got a message:
“Cargo please”
“6”
Those were good news.
“OK” – I said, I can afford 6 tons, I’m carrying 216.
“There you go”
I thought it was fair enough. I took a deep breath and jettisoned 6 Beryllium Tons. Then received a couple more coms:
“Thanks”
“Safe flight”
“Same” was my response. I engaged the frame shift drive and got the heel out of there.
Thinking about the encounter, everything happened in a very natural and IMO realistic way. The pirate wanted his loot, and I wanted to make it in one peace. Both got what we wanted while being respectful and cordial to each other.
To be honest, for a trader earning +5 million per day, that was like a mosquito bite in economic terms, but the pirate got more than 45.000 creds without firing a single weapon. A good business I’ll say.
Although I’ve written down the name of the commander, I doubt I’ll be taking violent actions against him in the future, since I firmly believe that people like him make this game a better and more interesting one. If we were all traders, this will turn out boring at the end.
I wish the best for this commander, but hope not to find him in a near future.
Safe flights.
Out.
