Ships The Krait MKII Owners Club.

I've actually never liked flying a Python in Open for that reason; if you come across a hostile player, there are a wide variety of situations you're at an inherent agility, speed, or firepower disadvantage. The possibility's always there you can be put in a situation that you just don't have the resources to fight your way out of, or even easily escape from. It's not that the Python's a bad ship or anything; it's just not a ship that can dictate the terms of a PVP encounter against the most commonly used ships and builds. I do, however, love using my Python as a mining vessel. But as a general-purpose Open runabout, I feel infinitely more secure in a Krait.

[EDIT] Just thought I'd add this picture. Thought it turned out nice.

Yeah that’s pretty much exactly how I feel.
I’ll refit my hulled Python at some point for what it does do which is to haul the absolute most to a med pad for missions and it will be specialised for that. It simply is too vulnerable in a number of ways when out in open, especially as a combat fit.
I Can’t get over how nice the Krait is. My pvp one is quite decent and my new mat gatherer is doing quite well. Jumps over 30 LY and that’s without the Guardian booster (once I’m finished with normal modding that’s my next stop).
Edit: Working above expectations and not finished yet. This thing is smooth. I went in one outing to a CZ, then planet, then Haz Res and only returned when I was out of limpets.

Just out of curiosity I filled my Krait up with guardian shield reinforcements. And with prismatic shields and three engineered shield boosters (one augmented with resistances) the shields now stand at around 2500Mj. Amazing really as I still could add another shield booster. More details later.. not in game to check exact numbers.

Yeah you can shield tank like a boss now with guardian things. Best just hope there are no phasing weapons nearby.

I actually really like that about the Krait. Unlike the Python, it's in a kind of a sweet spot. It can fight toe to toe with anything that can catch it, and anything with blatantly superior firepower it can easily outrun and outmaneuver. You've always got options and you never really have to give your opponent "authority" over an engagement.

Absolutely true. Working on my combat skills in HI-Res (Dangerous 96%) and found my self in the middle of a wing of three (deadly/dangerous) and made a tactical error or two, but was able to boost away and get my 46% hull repaired. Considered it a teaching moment; stay out of the middle and never retreat, but attack in a new direction. Next going to try flying with an onboard fighter. Starting to be as much fun as Combat trading.

Personally, I do not find the Python as much of a liability as some seem to (escaping is not a major worry, would not want to push a fight with it though). However, I do agree that the Krait is better suited for combat than the Python.

I got back to the bubble a few days after the Krait Mk II became available, and in a few days I found my self buying one and getting it kitted out for exploration. I've got a fighter, a single SRV, some mild engineering and a guardian FSD booster, and I'm getting 54ly jump range on a full tank. Just started off toward Colonia today, I want to visit a few amazing places in that neck of the woods, and I've been very happy with how she handles on the longer hauls. She doesn't run quite as cool as a DBX, but she cools down faster, and I've not been having any problems scooping at max depth. She really is a great all rounder, capable of anything you feel like doing, and she looks damn good doing it too.

Just got my Krait a few days ago, are there any builds that should keep me from getting stomped as I try to get her fully equipped?

I'm just doing a little exploration around Colonia. I've opted to take my ship with a fighter bay to try it out and see whether it adds anything to exploration. So far, it doesn't seem all that necessary, since the Krait is already a reasonably fast ship...but since I have the fighter bay, it seems a shame not to use it...

Class A supergiant (~500 solar radius's with 2 binary wolf rayets at the 4pm direction from the supergiant. High metal content world below the horizon):

Another shot firing weapons. Getting all onboard weapons to fire at once was pretty difficult while taking high resolution screenshots. This I think was the better one even if it was only the Rail guns firing (the multicanons were firing, I just must of caught it at a time where the weapon flash was off for them):

I was humming and harring about whether to post these images here, technically they probably belong in the Exploration photos thread, but seeing as the primary subject is the Krait in the pictures, I thought I would be ok to post these here.

I've joined the Krait Owners Club. Initial comments after a few days using it:
- It is now my general purpose 'fun' ship
- I've repurposed my Python to a standard mining ship
- The cockpit view from the Krait is fine, but I still prefer the Python's view for general manoeuvring
- My Imperial Clipper has been sold - it was previously my miner but I think that's now the Python's core role
- The Krait does not feel like a Faulcon DeLacy ship - the cockpit is more like a Lakon ship
- I've upgraded the life support as the cockpit keeps getting smashed
- The fighter hangar is a massive plus over the Python - I just need to figure out how to take advantage of it
- The balance of roles of small to medium ships in PvE is now at a point where I don't want to grind to get one of the bigger ships

But, in my limited experience, the Krait II has really balanced the experience game in PvE

The Krait Mk II is the best ship I've ever flown. It's quick, agile and equipped right able to take a heck of a beating while delivering a hard, *HARD* punch. I love mine. I haven't had to run yet and I've taken on deadly NPC's. PvP? No experience, but I expect he'd spread my components across vast areas of space.

I just got my Krait, sold off my Python and simply moved most of the pieces over so it's not yet perfect but I'm getting a feel for where I need to improve things. Overall the ship looks and feels like a direct upgrade to my beloved Keelback and I think I'll be staying in her for a long time to come!

Hmmm ... loved the Krait, spent a few weeks in it, then went back to my Python and I felt ... Home. The Krait was like moving into a flashier (but smaller) holiday house ... good fun but boy was it was nice to get back to all my stuff! :D

Good on you. Without those loyal to the Python (mine is an empty hull in drydock) it would go extinct. TBH the Python will always have its place, just the Krait can cover some aspects far more effectively (but it will never haul quite as much into a medium pad at once. Nothing will).

I have been flying Elite for a long time and I have to say the Krait is the best ship in the game. I have one equipped for exploration that jumps 60+LY and one all purpose that is armed that jumps 50+LY. The ship is fast and turns on a dime. It can be used for almost any role. It looks great and will take and dish out punishment. I compare the Krait to an Asp Explorer on steroids.

I also have two. Just such a brilliant chassis. You can really make whatever you like from it. That’s Red Herring. She’s a pure combat ship. As you can see from the state of her, she has survived quite a few encounters. Main role, pvp with a side of combat CGs.

And his is Leaf. This Krait jumps over 40 LY with cargo bay full, and collects mats from several sources. Good at a CZ or Haz Res and good on planetary surfaces. It travels well with a 6A scoop and it’s boosted biweaves, 557 boost speed and LR phasing lasers as well as SLF generally keep it safe.

Both extremely different ships yet same chassis.
