The Limit Theory Thread

I am glad that i could help

Sorry I forgot to thank you personally LaForge. Cheers for letting us know about Evochron. With so much out there even direhard fans are bound to miss a few here and there.

I ran through a few more tutorials on Evochron.

The KS is long closed and there does not seem to be a way of pledging now. I guess Josh wants to concentrate on the game development rather than running to the accountant, paying additional taxes etc......

You could do on the KS and send Josh a question asking if you can still pledge ?

Josh was very clear from the outset - no pledges after the KS ended. I don't believe that has changed.

Pretty sure Josh was sticking to his guns and saying this was a kickstarter only game until it gets it's full release.

Goodness me I forgot to ask people.
For those that backed LT to the early prototype level, what did you all think of that ?

Also have some of you checked out Joshs' Developer's log ? He goes into weekly detail on there. Just an amazing record of his progress. Truly amazing.

Unfortunately I don't have pre-alpha access but after seeing some of the videos on youtube I wish I did!

Also agree that the Dev logs are great. Some of the things he discusses goes straight over my head but most of it I can understand. He appears to be cast from the same mould as David Braben in that he seeks out perfection everywhere.

He certainly is very much a David Braben style person. I really loved the Pre Alpha.....I just adore his interfaces to be honest. Great artist and programmer.

If the full game is due around Jan 2014 I am wondering when the betas are coming.....Dec perhaps ?

Josh is talking about LT2 already in his progress logs. I can't wait to play LT and he's already thinking bigger.

I know I posted this back at the start but in case anyone missed it here's the link to his daily development logs. They are a really interesting read even for a technophobe like me.

I am not giving much away by saying that Josh has had half an eye on the development of LT2 for a long time now. Using all that he has learned in the development of LT plus some new, really neat, ideas it should prove to be an awesome addition to my Josh Parnell library of games. :)

I have to admit that at the moment I am more excited that he mentioned ship design in LT. I know he states that it will be a while before he is working seriously on it but after months of bringing it to the Elder Council chambers and being told politely that ships and stations will get better and to be patient. This is the first time we have seen proof positive that it is on Mr Parnell's radar. The demise of the LEGO ships is underway. :D

Sometimes the Dev Logs contains important information that has bypassed the EC altogether. Which can be vexing at times but is brought about by Mr Parnell's enthusiasm to keep everyone informed. So we find the logs as interesting as you do.

Well we should get another video update soon.

LT had a KS scheduled release for Jan 2014 I think it was. Not long now.

Just wondering when the betas etc will be.

Did you play the Pre Alpha Verne ?

Did you play the Pre Alpha Verne ?

I did play the prototype Styggron but it had a very limited appeal for me.

I am not sure if I have mentioned that my all time favourite space sim is Freelancer which I am still playing in a modified form (Genesis by Gibbon 1.1 OSP). I believe the gentleman who developed the mod can be found within the Elite community (thank you for a superb piece of work sir).

Luckily I share many interests in common with Josh. One of them being Freelancer. So he knew that I would not find the prototype particularly satisfying. I said elsewhere that you might as well forget it now as the code for the main game has changed so dramatically. He does intend releasing another version of the LTP but it will include many of the features he now shows in the updates. There is no release date for it at present as Josh and his clones have their hands full with the work on the main game. As it will be very much like the final release version I anticipate it being an instant hit with me.

I apologize for sounding non specific and sometimes a bit vague in my replies. I am doing my level best to respect the request Josh has made to observe the need for confidentiality concerning certain matters. I find this one of the hardest aspects of being closely involved in the project.

Verne, I like your replies and I actually don't think they are that vague! I like the information that Josh gives out as he gives you more than enough to keep your interest without taking all the suspense out of what the final game will be like.

Thank you for letting me know that Philip. I hate to waste people's time.

Josh and I have already expressed our gratitude for the existence of this thread. I am sure he would be posting here himself if he had more time. As you may have noticed the LT members (like you and I) tend to be very demanding in their requests for information and for his attention in general. This doesn't leave him with much free time. Josh is very much like us in his love for certain computer games. After all, that is the primary reason he is building LT. Unfortunately he barely gets anytime to pursue this passion.

Overall I think he does a superb job keeping the general members and guests informed of progress. Members of the EC sometimes envy how easily you get to know the details of progress. Spare a thought for the members of the EC. It is not only necessary that we keep informed of the developments on the general forum but we also have to sometimes beg and plead for advanced information from Mr Parnell himself. He really is the epitome of the lone developer. :)

Do you know Josh or are you getting this from reading the development logs? I thought the logs were all public.

Ha-Ha! Yes Styggron, I know Josh.

The logs may be public but the work done by the Elder Council is not. We have our own forum where our discussions take place and voting on important issues is carried out. Input from the general members is "filtered" to see what would be useful in the development of the game. We get to say what we want to say and if required a vote is taken on specific issues. As there are only seven Elders plus Mr Parnell as the group leader we are dependent on quality ideas and suggestions from the general members. They have proved time and again to be a knowledgeable source of material.

The Elders tend to stay away from the areas of the general forum where discussions and suggestions directly related to Limit Theory are taking place but we freely discuss other games and off-topic subjects with the rest of the membership.

I suppose Josh would describe me as the awkward or challenging member.
