The most misleading/pointless message in ED? - "Prospector Limpet Failed"

So your module can (for example) only support two prospectors... You know it can only support two... You have two in use... So you fire another one, knowing full well one of the previous ones will in effect be replaced/usurped, and you get "Prospector Limpet Failed"?

How has anything failed? What can you do to overcome this matter? How is anything not 100% as expected? :)

You can look at it this way:
The prospector is active while there is an active data link from the controller.
When you launch a new prospector, the data link with the old one is severed and the prospector fails.

Understood, but again, what has failed as such? What can you do to overcome this matter? How is anything not 100% as expected?

It's a misleading and utterly pointless message IMHO :)

i will raise you "prospector limpet failed" with "slow down" while passing a star / object at 90° with no chance of collision or just coming into a planetary glide and it says "slow down" and your like errrrrr no this speed is nice and how quick it should be without the SC nanny control

That message is supposed to say "Dude, relax, take it easy, enjoy the view, smoke some of that herbage growing on your dashboard, and appreciate the magnificence of it all".

But that didn't fit.

I have always taken this merely as a "FYI" not a suggested/directed course of action ie. the ship is currently in a "slow-down".

I would suggest the ambiguous warning is more down to Frontier's questionable choice of words & semantics; a more apposite message would be "SLOWING down" or more simply, hyphenate the original as above!

my beef with said FYI is that it sticks the brakes on while screaming "SLOW DOWN" at you, i could live with it if it was actually a warning to slow down and didnt actually slow you down making the warning to slow down pointless because the automatic SC controls are slowing you down!??!?

crazy!

I guess that someone at FD told the intern to make the game more informative for new players. This is the result, together with the "surface scan 50% complete" message.

Back when I was a new player, this screwed with my head tremendously. I always thought it was the NEW limpet that failed, not the old one!

But as annoying as this is, having my collector limpets constantly triggering my proximity alarm, thus flashing red lights in my face non-stop, that's got to be one of the worse designs I've ever seen (especially in an asteroid field where you'd like that alarm to signify REAL danger like colliding with a giant rock). I reported this ages ago, but does Frontier listen? No, they are too busy feeding their tigers.

It is an advisory, your FSD is not hitting the brakes, in fact it is increasing power, the gravity well is what is slowing the ship down, hence the message.

That is what I thought - I should have really mentioned the forces acting on the ship as a reason for the slow-down in my post.

Jeez Frontier, sorry...looks like you're not the only one to cause confusion through ambiguity around here.

The struggle is real 👍

Absolutely does my head in.

Collector limpets "expire". Isn't that the same thing?. It would be nice to be able to mute certain types of messages, like switch them on and off in a big menu that has all the common messages.
