Anything but for me, but then, I steal stuff...So FDev broke the game then..
Eh? Broke how?So FDev broke the game then.. Lovely, I jump back into my SRV, at least planets still have some stuff worth shooting at...
I still can’t like it though, and those 10000 systems that get updated are probably the more interesting ones as the more BGS savvy players do there think at 2pm, leaving us the dregs at 9pm when the kids get to sleep lol! It's not entirely how it works.
Prices are determined by two major factors:
1) Demand - which regenerates continuously, though extremely slowly in the case of core gems, and can go negative - and needs to be above a minimum threshold to give a higher price. These cause gradual ups and downs in prices (unless someone sells a lot in which case it can be quite a steep change)
2) BGS states from the political simulation - which can change daily, currently at about 2pm - which cause step changes in prices, some small, some very large.
So, at 2pm the states change and the prices with them. But no-one knows yet where the new best prices are that result from that. As they get found and advertised on sites like EDDB and Inara, the continuous demand part will drop the prices. But there are 20,000 systems in the bubble, and only 10,000 or so get updated to those services each day, so even by the end of the day there's still potentially plenty of others with good prices out there.
Regardless of what time you're playing at, the key is to find the high-priced system before anyone else does (either someone deliberately looking, or someone just passing through while sending market data).
If there was perfect real-time data available out of the game - say twenty times as many people using 3rd party tools - then there probably would be a big advantage to playing just after the tick. As it is ... not really.
One of the things Frontier seem to be doing with the price changes is diversifying the number of different goods that can have this sort of behaviour, too - either for mining or for bulk trading - so that it's not just "watch the Painite prices", but lots of other minable minerals and lots of other bulk cargoes can also be profitable if you get there first.
And if there were 1000 miners - 24 hours a day, every day, at least on average - mining 80t of VOs each [1], that would be a problem. Pretty sure there aren't, but remind me next week and I'll check the totals again.
With what little data I have, it's looking like somewhere between 3 months and a bit over a year, depending on the station and the gem, and that's probably not the full range possible.
Looking at the PC squadron leaderboards, total trade activity there was about 20,000 billion credits last season, or ~350 billion credits a day, or about 350,000 tonnes of expensive mined goods (at pre-change prices). Not everyone is in a PC squadron ... equally, not all of that trade activity was high-end mining. Let's say it cancels out.Pre Carriers launch i was mining 2h per day, 4 to 6 days a week.
Pretty sure i was not alone based on the number of Carriers in the Galaxy.

With 200 million demand - split between all gems, since the demand changes will tend to change which one is "best" - that'd be fine if the average regeneration period was less than about 500 days, and I think it probably is.
(And as you say, if the "must have all the money" players move on to something more profitable, there'll be even more spare demand. But I'm fairly sure that the overall demand levels are not going to significantly change over the next few weeks anyway.)
They altered it and they made it Different rates for different mining items again...fdev did day they were changing the Bulk Sales Tax didn't they? I'm presuming that hasn't been altered yet.
Oh my God! More Hyperbole. First off, at market prices of around 100K to 150K per ton of Painite, your payoff for 100 tons will be around 10-15 million. Second, that is not a bad sum of money. Earning even only that per hour will still get in in the range of buying an Anaconda (if you so choose) in only about 50 to 80 hours of game play. Third, it should not take you more than about 10 to 15 minutes to find and reach a suitable market for your Painite. I know because my main activity in this game has been laser mining Painite. Fourth, other stuff like Osmium and Platinum have skyrocketed in price, fetching anywhere from 200K to 300K per ton. You can score good coin by going after them. And finally, if you are doing activities in this game only to try and score as much money in as little a period of time as possible, and are not enjoying what you are doing, you are playing this game wrong. The point of this game, as with any other, is to have FUN. If you ARE having fun by trying to maximize your earnings, however, then I have good news for you. There are a host of other activities that also pay well. Find the one that gives you the most enjoyment and knock your socks off!The Best reason to prove the laser mining is crippled : to mine 100 tones Painite you need AT least half hour; add to that another 15-45 minutes AT LEAST to get there AND to get to a decent market. You will end up with some 250 millions, the best case, in 1 1/2 - 2 hours.
I do MORE than that at Robigo, without stress or risk to get interdicted.
And this is for Painite - to go for Gold, Platinum, or lesser valuable things, is straight loss of time.... Today I did 1/4 of a billion ( some 254 millions...) in a bit over 2 hours...

Again, more hyperbole. Mining has NOT been knocked "lower than the floor". You can still make very good credits from mining. I did a run a couple of days ago and made about 36 million for an hour's worth of mining. Mining is just fine.My point is not about "fun" dude, in case you miss that: is about how the nerf was implemented - they hit THE most lucrative way to make credits and bring that activity LOWER than the floor. Is going from an extreme to another extreme.
My fun is most in combat, but like you know very well, that do not pay crap - I do 10 x more in Robigo / per hour, with no risk at all to meet the "rebuy" screen.
Why can't them find a way to implement changes in a more soft, educate and with a bit of common sense ? Like fixing the damn PWA BEFORE nerfing the mining ?
Or fixing FIRST the combat credits , until they fix the PWA ? ( once they said the PWA fix will take longer than expected..?... )

Sigh, obviously I'm not going to change your mind. You appear to be fixated on credits per hour. Fine. Go do whatever activity earns you the most. For dedicated miners such as myself, mining IS just fine. This ....
I just did 26 millions at Robigo in 10 MINUTES. "Mining is just fine." is just a ridiculous, funny statement, lol !
