This thread blew up the last couple of days on reddit. It is 83% in favor of player guilds, and SOME player-owned stations. Not every station. Or even most stations. Just SOME player-owned stations.

https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDange...please_read_your_game_is_in_turmoil/?sort=new

This is something that would add depth to ED for SOME people. If someone didn't want to take part, then just don't go to a player-owned station. You can still pass through the system like normal.

I want to emphasize that most people commenting in this reddit thread absolutely LOVE the beautiful, immersive game FD has created. This would provide more things to fight over. Friendly traders may need to bring in supplies. Hopefully we can find a function for explorers.

With the 32 man limit per instance, we may need to keep wings to max 16 for battles? Hmm.

I think with the reddit thread getting 83% up-votes, maybe FD could do a poll of players to see how the feel about it? I'm thinking email would be best, as some people have taken breaks but will check on the game with each update. Or a forum poll and just send an email out to all players to visit the poll?

Haha. Please guys. Don't say go play EVE. Don't flame this thread. Just take in the information and hopefully we can get a poll to say yay or nay officially.

How does this all work in SOLO/GROUP? How does it even work with the whole instancing in Open? And considering I have spent over half a billion, 400 mill just on my T9/Python/conda - How much do I need to start saving before I can buy my own starport?

Am struggling to see how this would all work.. I could see tiny player owned settlements once planetary landings come into place, but an entire starport?

In the thread there is a particularly ingenious solution. When someone plays solo, they still show up in the normal universe with everyone in open. BUT they are a different color on the radar. They can't be targeted or anything. They can still chat with open players too!

Just think how more alive the universe would be!

The mods may well set up a poll if you ask nicely.

It would pretty much be a waste of time, I suspect. FD have made it abundantly clear that they do not want guilds in their game (though they have crossed previous red lines, like the one that led to CQC). And I seem to recall a very old thread where there was a poll, and No Thanks, won by a landslide.

Yup. Over 60% said no. Go vote if you are that keen, though one vote will not change the picture.

I can't see that being too popular with either A: the people do don't want to play with anyone else in their gametime, B: the Open player trying to kill an NPC but can't as the visible Solo player has tagged it, C: absolutely anyone trying to get more people in their Open instance, but can't as visible Solo players have eaten up all their spare instance slots.

It's just a bad idea, sorry.

There is a Megathread just for this conversation. The sides aren't so lopsided in that thread.

Did the mega thread have a poll?

Right. But now people have played for 8 months. Once people reach the ship they want. Or the rank. They have nothing more to do. Maybe now the feelings about player-owned stations has shifted.

NPCs bounties can be awarded to both fully. Doesn't this already happen?

For the instances, the MM would try to put open players with open players.

And maybe solo players who don't like it can choose to not see any other CMDRs.

I very much doubt those voters would have changed their point of view significantly. Of course, they were mostly from 'the old audience' (the one that wanted the game DBOBE described in the kickstarter). Now we are awash with folks from a different audience, since FD have bent over backwards to attract them. So I would not be at all surprised if the results were different. And cue more complaints from the old audience about their game still not being delivered and FD changing their vision.

They already do - by clicking on Solo Play - and I think they would be rather miffed if that is changed.

It did, 3 to 1 against.

How old was it. The sentiment might be shifting. That reddit thread is 83%. That's not insignificant with the amount of votes tallied. But it is self selection. Hence the new poll I think we should do.

People who don't want any part of it would hardly be affected by it.

Search for threads on the 'Transponder' that allowed CMDRs to not be identified as PCs (and thus looked like NPCs). This is what a significant number of players wanted (more than double those that wanted the current 'flashing blue light' for all). Sandro even said they were 'leaning towards it' and that they would probably test it out in the beta. Nothing happened, of course, so significant numbers of CMDRs ran away and hid in solo.

Mine hasn't. I would suggest that the reddit and this Forum have different audiences.

You just violated the pegi rating. Solo players cannot ever be allowed to receive comms from open players, as online interaction is not rated.

Which is why a poll here would be better. But any player taking a break from the game wouldn't see it.

Dear mods. Can we make this thread a poll? Pretty please with rum on top.

"Guilds and limited player-owned stations" or "No guilds or player owned stations" or "Guilds but no limited player-owned stations."
