Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

I only played briefly on first release but I gave it a go with the update tonight. Does every planet hurt you when you first start? I tried about 12 different starts and began losing health immediately on all of them down to environmental factors. I don't mind this but just wondered if you can get a reasonably benign starting world.

I died in the first 5 mins. High radiation world. I got it figured out now.

Is it me or has absolutely everything changed? Ship names are different, the types of fuel are different, the stuff in my inventory has all changed too? Bit annoying really as i only restarted playing the thing a few days ago. Now I've got to relearn everything from scratch.

I played it for a few hours on release - I've just downloaded NEXT and restarted a new game.

And I haven't got a flipping idea what to do!

I'm sure there was a better tutorial in the initial game as I played 7 hours, but this new version is just incomprehensible. I worked out how to stop taking damage from poison, but that's just about it.

Maybe it's me - I am 2 years older and my cognitive facilities may be going.

I'll try again after a nap :D

I don't think it's going to be on GOG today :(

What's more annoying is that there is no communication from either HG or GOG about this.

You should be getting tutorial missions that guide you to your ship, how to repair it, how to get tools, how to build bases etc. Just follow the directions. :)

Nope - not seen them at all. Just spawned on a planet and watched my health drop 'cos of "toxicity".

I was looking for the popups to help me out but nothing - trial and error helped with poison but I'm not seeing any tutorial popups.

Must be my install, I'll verify files & try again.

Cheapest on Green Man Games. Paid 15/16 quid for it.

Yeah, downloaded it for PC as wifey hogging telly lol. Will be fun starting again from scratch.

Yeh, most planets have a specific biohazard or more. But all the resources you need to refill your suit to stay protected are always nearby.

The main thing is that, as others have said, all material types have changed so you really need the read all the relevant descriptions to know what you need.

Also, at start after you repair your multi tool you need to use “F” a lot to identify specific rocks or flora to know what they contain. Now most items contain a primary and secondary resource.

Talking about multi tool, a random alien asked me for my tool, I accepted (thought he only wanted to inspect it) and he then kept it (!!!!). In exchange he gave me a much better advanced one! :D

Yeah, it's a pretty poor show tbh. If I was as fond of NMS as I am of ED, then I would drop GOG and buy it again on Steam, but given I've only played it for 15 hours I'm not spending the money.

I would like to find out why it's been a no-show, and if it's technical issues removing Steam's DRM then I might have a bit more sympathy with HG and GOG, but I would have expected any problems/delays to be the other way round. More likely is that Steam represents the majority of their PC players, and so gets priority.

Try to repair your scanner and scan for your ship. It also gives you a compass.

So it turns out there is no multiplayer at all for GOG customers.

This is beyond ridiculous. I have requested a refund. No more money for GOG from me.

Extremely upset :(

What? How is that even possible?

https://www.gog.com/news/no_mans_sky_next_update_now_live

If they notified people about this I wouldn't be so upset. But they didn't say a word until the update was released (with 8 hours delay on GOG).

Honestly, they spin all that hype, then delay the release 8 hours and THEN drop "no multiplayer" bomb?

I paid the same amount of money as everyone else, but I don't get the same game. It's a farce.

BTW they have "delayed" the pseudo-multi they had before (the glowing orbs) for GOG as well. It was then never introduced. Now they are delaying full multi as well. Sounds familiar.

So this in on Sale on steam right now....

Im tempted.... now with the new NEXT update.... but im also a massive skeptic where Hello games are now concerned.

So what does the ED player base think of this new and improved version..

Should i buy it?

There are people who were looking forward to the change of everything, adding new features and general improvements.

...and then there is this guy. :D

I'll be honest, i wasn't overly bothered about the multiplayer aspect, but man that's utterly unreal. It's almost as if HG have not taken enough heat already for messing up selling a multiplayer game with no multiplayer.

E. @NMS, some great images there!
