Anyway...walkers...lots of fun with the scatter gun (short range)

I know how to kill them Im just not armed properly which brings me to my question. Im trying to create deuterium or whatever its called...its says it can be done in a medium base refiner and that both feeds need to be di hydrogen, yet everytime I fill both feeds, I get the message that the action isnt possible. So what am I missing?

Also, delivery guy on his way so no new tv yet but as Im setting up an xb1X which is a straight upgrade from a 1S...is there anything I need to know or do or just plug in and go...again?

Hexite + Coprite = Nanites, if I remember right.

Yes, I built up over 6,000 Nanite Clusters the other evening. I have a two herds of animals that spawn near my base so was gathering Hexite like mad. The trees nearby give Carbon & Coprite, and if you stick Coprite in a refiner with Oxygen it multiplies the Coprite x 3 so it was easy for me to get huge stockpiles of Hexite and Coprite which in turn refine to Nanites on a 1 Hexite + 1 Coprite = 1 Nanite ratio.

Apologies - late to the thread and no nothing about NMS. For the PC version, do you have to download and play via Steam? Or is there a way of not using Steam at all?

My understanding is that the only way to play multiplayer is via steam, but you can buy the game from other sources and play single player.

Hellogames says they are working on multiplayer implementation for the GOG version, but they are probably lieing.

I know a lot of players don't like Steam. But with NMS, I think its the way to go, plus you get experimental branch which is good to see incoming content changes.

I actually put NMS "on the shelf" again and have been playing Elite, though more as a side-game rather my "primary" game like it used to be. I started to feel the grind of NMS, particularly in all these missions required to unlock blueprints. I'm hoping Hello Games takes my request to add an "Engineer" gameplay mode (which would be Normal mode except with all blueprints unlocked from the start), and then I might get back into the game.

The other reason I started to get bored with it is that I think I've been to just about every planet type, and there aren't that many. I also am painfully aware of the lack of proper geological features - rivers, mountain ranges formed by tectonics, different biomes on the same planet, etc. Truth be told, I can explore much more interesting worlds by playing ESO, HZD, GOW, etc. And when it comes to experiencing realistic moons and barren planets (and realistic space), ED is still the king.

I think the menu bar at the bottom goes off after a couple of seconds.

Ye I see that now...on the plus side at least I remembered how to post them ^

Yeah, it was a nice pic. :)

The thing I don't much like is the fact they're making the gas plants in caves too easy to spot. Plus our ships are getting buried in terrain again.
Hope they sort it, I have put it through, so you never know.

Just the first few seconds really.

It's interesting to see how fragmented the PC platform became with digital distribution. Back in the days there was no "store X version", only one edition which you could buy anywhere and while stuff like GameSpy wasn't the greatest, it connected all players of a certain PC game with each other.

Nowadays we see the same stuff happing on PC, we once only knew from consoles: DRM, forced updates, region locks, walled gardens - the only thing left is paying a subscription for multiplayer access. But the latter will find its way too, I'm sure.

This is informative, because I've been tempted by PC gaming of late, but I forgot about the Steam takeover of the desktop. Some time ago I had picked up Skyrim for PC on disc, not that I could play it on my humble laptop, but it was a really good price. I did install it, but even though it came on a DVD, it still forced me to install Steam in order to play it...

Yeah, I think I'll pass.

I played on PC fer over 20 years but decided years ago that I had simply gotten sick sore and tired of them, and that when my last pc died from old age I would switch all my gaming to console. To date, I have had no regrets whatsoever especially not now with a brand new xbox1X which actually performs better than my last pc did...and not by just a tad either the difference is quite significant.

But however, it still cant match a high end pc and never will...then again, it also didnt cost the same as a high end pc so there is that. Everyones choice is reflected in
what they intend doing...personally speaking, I have over 200 movies purchased through the xb store and both meself and me daughter use the console fer about 90% of all our television viewing, so really, the gaming is but one aspect.

Besides, I have a laptop fer general browsing and a storage device fer my music...and thats about all the use I have fer a laptop which is why its a second hand cheapo job from the classified ads. Thats how far the pc apple has fallen from my personal tree...was a time I considered all consoles to be nothing more than novelty items and pc were the only way to play...now I just cant be bothered with them at all ^

The biggest thing I miss from PC gaming is advanced settings and mods. I'm quite content with the graphics capabilities of current-day consoles (though unfortunately Elite Dangerous does a crap job at utilizing the power of the PS4). After all, today's console is yesterday's high-end PC, which all the high-end PC gamers were happy with until something newer came out :p

I play games that have many mods, which I love to use, so it has to be pc for me, mainly because I'm more in-tune with pc gaming. But Steam is o.k. its convenient I suppose. Problem with mods on Steam is, they seem to be size restricted, so many mods would not get on there anyway.

You can play NMS off line, but still need the connection & Steam to get the game up and running. After that, you can come off-line and keep playing.
But with games that are more relaxing and fun based, quick and easy type, I think Steam is great. Plus you don't have to take updates if you don't want and some games allow you to rewind to previous versions. ETS2 for example.

But I agree the old way was the best for modding and mod use. But that is because many of us are getting older, so its what we know/knew. A newer generation are playing using Steam etc and many would be lost without it, I would think so anyway.

I got Steam for Arma 3 only, thought it would be terrible, but sort of like it for some games.
Regards the Arma series, I have many versions on HDD's, so can rewind to whatever, we play an older version than the current A2, its only a few updates back, but its better with the mods we use, so we stick with that version. Plus its like playing a disc-HD version (no Steam, old school :D).

I think sometimes about a modded version of ED, especially from the ai side of things. [yesnod]

Yeah not sure how different the "versions" are in this case I think it's just that NMS uses steam's friends lists and whatever other networking backends are in there in order to sort out their matchmaking. Hellogames does not seem to be very adept at the networking part of building their game so I suspect it's more to do with that than any special exclusivity arrangement. But yeah there *are* a lot of games which seem to require you to use one particular marketplace platform/launcher to the exclusion of all others. To the best of my knowledge Steam has *never* forced exclusivity on any developer but a lot of developers nonetheless launch exclusively on Steam for the visibility and convenience factor if nothing else. Meanwhile you've got Origin and Uplay whatever Blizzard's thing is called, and various other name-brand publishers launching their own storefronts and making their games exclusive to those "platforms" which really is quite annoying because I'm not particularly inclined to install a million different launchers. Not a fan of Frontier forcing us to run their game from a launcher either, for that matter.

The DVD is just a Steam pre-load on disc, fooling you into paying for a digital distribution subscription, which is represented by the one-use key inside the box. When Steam terminates service, the whole contents of the DVD box become useless, even it's still shrink-wrapped. Its collectors value is zero.

To the best of my knowledge Steam has *never* forced exclusivity on any developer
You can't use SteamWorks without your game launching through Steam. So much for that.

Well yeah you can't use their platform without using their platform.
What I mean is they've never demanded a game be for sale (and use) on Steam only and be unavailable anywhere else.

Good thing games can happily use DirectX without having to be sold exclusively through the Windows Store.
