Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

Just launched my frigate expeditions. Longest one is "only" thirteen hours.

Spend my time trading, while waiting for those upgrade modules. Profitable, if a little frustrating, since there is no INARA for NMS.

Anyone ever use the autonomous mining units? I mean the ones you place on visible resources. Activated copper is a nessecity when repairing crashed ships, and I believe you get more resources when using the mining unit instead of the terrain gun, but am not sure.

The trouble is you need to keep powering and emptying them*. I think though they don't deplete those mineral lodes that they sit on, whereas of course once multi-tool-mined they are gone for good - so they probably produce more from the lode if you can be bothered to service them.

I don't use them - not after my experience with the oxygen harvester - I got fed up coming back to it and finding it had used up all the power mats but the reservoir was empty*.

* This may have been fixed as it was supposedly a bug.

Guess I'll have to keep searching for activated copper, & phosphorous deposits.
I've been lucky with uranium, junk metal, salt, sulphurine to name a few of the less common ones.

Did you know this: If you highlight something in the catalogue screen (an element or plant for example) - you get help in the Galaxy map to show where it is detected. So finding activated copper for example, just highlight that in the catalogue, go to Gal map and a nearby system containing it will be selected for you.

EDIT: BTW "For Science" I earlier (after my previous post) went into the game and built an autonomous mining unit and an atmosphere harvester, powered them, saved and exited the game. Just went back into the game and lo and behold 250 copper and 250 nitrogen were waiting for me. So I have now also built and powered an oxygen harvester, saved and exited and we shall see if that now works too.

FURTHER EDIT: The Oxygen harvester is still bugged. The collected oxygen disappears if you leave the instance / save and exit the game / etc.

They're not worth it, in my opinion.
Need fuel and constant baby sitting.
Also, had some disappear in the past.

The best option is to place an extractor on a deep resource (once you unlock the tech).
Eventually, you'll have everything and a bit more, with money and materials becoming worthless (and with a hard cap on the units).
When I need something, I just teleport to the base that produces it. 🤷‍♂️

Yup, in this playthrough I already have about 15 bases; some solar, some with power extractors all are resource only bases. Half my gaming time is traipsing the galaxy, emptying them, then heading to the storages.

You know that whatever is in a Storage Unit 0 is in EVERY Storage Unit 0 (and so on) - even those on Freighters.

Yes, just can't be bothered to build them more than 2 or 3 times. So freighter has them all, and one base where I actually made some structures have them duplicated.
Oh and freighters have changed a lot since 2021, I cannot build as I want, I have to make little prefab rooms, not sure how I feel about that yet, which is why my frieghter is mostly untouched as of now. I don't have the blueprints for many things including a teleporter. $5M to buy a freighter location from the scrap guy is crazy in early game (35hrs), I'd rather buy another multi-tool, haha.

I have. They sit on top of the deposit, and they are sloooow. You have to mark the spot, and come back later.

If you go into the Anomaly and hang about at the Nexus or up by the NPC "helpers" you should find that people will transfer stuff to you - for example single items worth 15M or a full bin of tainted metal (one unit can be refined into 2 nanites so a full bin is about 20,000) or maybe even some salvaged frigate modules*. Of course you have to have networking enabled and if you like you can type in a message asking for resources or use the "I need resources" emote - some times the Anomaly is more busy than at other times.

* I used to pirate these by shooting freighter's cargo pods but they seem rarer on those now.

Hurry up and pick a freighter and then you can get the metal.

If you don't play every day building an extraction farm in the freighter will give you 350 per unit without having to watch or manage them. come back 1 days later and 10 machines will have 3500 chromatic metal No conversion required from copper if parked in correct system... you get that for just leaving the freighter in the correct system...

But you need to have 10 machines first lol.
( Yes were do you think those tritium moaners got the idea from for elite.)

Err, what's up with ship combat? During ship combat, my reverse thruster doesn't work, I end up circling my opponant instead of slowing.
Again, last time I played was 2021, and I recall having control of my ship while in battle.

Reverski works for me - using an "XBoxOne for PC" controller
