Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

Post after post you seem to confuse your personal opinion with facts, and extrapolate your personal opinion with what 'the people' want. I'm going with Cynaqq here.

You seemed to be confused, this is a forum. People post their personal opinion.

Would you like to actually give an example of how I was saying my personal opinion was fact? That should be fun to see considering I used the words "that I think would help the game". Specifically stating that the following was my opinion.

Webcache of Jim Sterling's review for anyone interested http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...com/no-mans-sky-review/&num=1&strip=1&vwsrc=0

It seems his site is under a DDoS attack by some salty numbnut(s) not liking what he said about No Man's Sky.

He'll have something to say about that on next weeks Jimquisition.

I rarely see this level of hostility towards a negative opinion of a game, unless people are in denial and are trying to avoid facing up to the fact they're not enjoying it as much as they are trying to convince themselves that they are.

Hmm, that does sound a bit like these forums to me, but that comes down to what side of the discussion you are on I think :) We are all biased by our own opinion, some people will not be able to understand how anyone could enjoy NMS, in the same way that I can't understand why anyone could think the RNGineers are any good. Doesn't necessarily make one side more right than the other of course :)

No, it doesnt sound like that. You can freely post your opinion here or elsewhere online without worrying about people nuking your pc. The devs here also dont receive piles of death threats when they announce a few weeks of delay. Its quite a difference...

True.

But if you enjoy something that should be enough. I really like chips, for example. A lot of Chinese take-aways are in my area, and they all do great chips. They do pretty good egg fried rice too. Sometimes I'll encounter people who don't like chips though. They prefer salad, or cake, or tomatoes, or something else. They just don't like chips.

Am I going to get angry with them? I am going to get mad and insist that they're totally wrong about everything? Why would someone else not liking chips provoke an emotional reaction in me?

But if I, for example, supported a football team, let's say the football team is Accrington Stanley, and someone said they can't play to save their lives, that might make me angry. It's evident they're a crap football team. It's obvious they're not going anywhere. Yet I am angry when someone points out the obvious.

Why?

Is it because I have tried to convince myself that this is the best football team ever? Is it because I feel some sort of "loyalty" to this football team? Is it that I being confronted with a truth that makes me think "yeah they are kind of crap" makes me feel uncomfortable about this loyalty, and to justify it to myself I have to defend them or face the fact that I have lied to myself?

If someone genuinely enjoys a video game they won't get angry if others calmly say "this isn't for me" or even if they say "this really isn't that good you know".

Absolutely, and rep'ed. NMS seems to be very similar to ED the respect that some people are very happy doing the same thing over and over again, and as such are happy with the game. While others will get tiered of it faster and start to complain of the lack of content or that it is shallow. Personally NMS is a game I see myself sinking a lot of time into, I am kind of OCD about playing games and as such would spend way too much time completing each planet before moving on. I would also find a rich planet and farm it for 20 hours and not think twice about doing it. I have 400+ hours into ED and most of that was space trucking or grinding rep with the two factions(currently ranked 14 and 12 in the respective factions). I have actually never mined, nor done a lot of that activities available in the game. But this type of thing is not for everyone, and can be hampered by poor controls. ED is amazing because despite doing the same thing over and over again the controls and feel are just so amazing that I just don't care, it is just fun to fly in ED. But not everyone will feel the same way, they will point to how shallow the mechanics are and what little there is to do (and they would be right), this does not mean I had any less fun.

From reviews, twitch streams, forums, NMS does not have smooth polish controls, making it a lesser experience for some. Many people will look past this and not see a problem, but that does not mean the issues are not there (not when so many people complain about it). I predict that NMS will see an issue that didn't really face ED, and that is the large amount of marketing and the hype that was generated for it. NMS was sold as a AAA game that would blow peoples mind (nvm the issue of multiplayer). When in reality it will just appeal to a smaller market, and be a game that was just created by talented guys (not gods).

:) Already been able to try No Man's Sky (for a little bit, but more this weekend) and enjoying the game to bits!

It really is a great time for space-explorers to be alive (..of course I'd prefer my very own starship capable of entering Hyperspace rl :p), this -truly- doesn't disappoint.
Especially the world exploration was very very welcome, and at least for me? Smooth fun, easy to get into and not mind-destroyingly complex (luckily, as those games makes me destroy stuff!)

Look forward to No Man's Sky if you have planned on getting it, you (probably) won't be disappointed

Really wish I could rep you again.

People like myself have been pointing this out to people for years, and usually we just got down-voted to oblivion by people on places like Reddit as our horrible sensible facts contradicted the game that existed solely in their imaginations.

Can we downvote reddit? Like, the whole thing? I mean, they did admit that reddit was mostly "seeded content" for years until they got enough momentum to not have to run fake user profiles on their own website to feign activity.

Or could we maybe do some reddit filter, a big warning banner that says "CAUTION: This information was pasted from reddit, and thus is likely complete and utter bonkers" ?

You are right :) As much as there is a bit of heated debate here at times then it is probably one of the more civilised game forums I have ever been a part of! That said I have had a fair bit of abuse hurled at me for daring to suggest that Elite could be better than it currently is ;)

Back to No Man's Sky though - just watched Obsidians latest video on it!

This forum and the Chaos Reborn forums. They really are bastions of civility and harmony compared to most other internet.... places.

Maybe the history of the games concerned have something to do with it.

So do we have any official word on whether the fact that there's no MP is final, or if they plan to pull an Arena Commander and silently work on that for a few more months until players can actually try it?

Because this DOES sound a lot like they did intend for something to be possible MP-wise:

gawd why am I not surprised some of those I ignore for posting crap in the SC thread are here slagging off NMS!!! We get it, you love Elite and hate everything else daring to compete with it? seesh.
