Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

I'm getting pretty horrid performance with a 1070, low fps, stuttering like crazy. Restarting endlessly to mess with the graphics settings is a pain. Anybody have any suggestions for what to tweak or do I just wait for an update?

It's really a shame since in PS4 it works flawless.

It does? Can I have the version you have so I can share it with all my friends who are playing so it stop crashing for us please.

Absolutely enchanted by the game and have spent far too many hours playing it already but it does have issues, it's crashed on my PS4 over a dozen times, similar numbers for my friends. It's a nice change of pace from Elite but they're only similar in the vaguest of senses :)

I dont have the game, but it seems from a lot of the reviews posted on steam that the framrate may be capped to 30 fps by default

It should be possible to change it in the Graphics Menu under options or in the config file C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\No Man's Sky\Binaries\SETTINGS\TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS.MXML using notepad.

Well we knew one way or another there would be a backlash.

Paging Mr. NMS, this was going to destroy ED?

I dunno, played it for a bit, no crashes.

Spent quite a bit of time figuring out what I'm supposed to do.

Got off planet, discovered some aliens who all seem to want me to bring things to get reputation.

Seems kinda like a survival game but surviving is not difficult or challenging, also no mutliplayer so no threat there.

Not sure if I could be       to be honest. Maybe I am just a jaded gamer.

Seem okish I guess. I haven't really played long enough to judge really.

Setting to boarderless seems to be helping some.

Was just about to add that , in the xml file (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\No Man's Sky\Binaries\SETTINGS\TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS.MXML) Change the fullscreen value to False and the borderless window value to true.

Try this: https://twitter.com/Totalbiscuit/status/764176821302722560. Won't help the stuttering, but FPS should be better.

As for the crashes: https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/4xene1/pc_crash_thread/d6eyr23?context=3 (so it might be somewhat easy to fix by HG, if I understand correctly).

Wow. That's insane.

33/66 Split approx.

Well just logged off from an excellent blap in the Metallica system and Planet Hetfield........no issues other a little bit of stuttering, pop up is a tad disapointing. Had a lot of fun, leaving the flora and fauna naming alone for now as there's no way I can think all new names up.

And all I can think of reply to the storm over the game is that by christ this planet NEEDS a cull of humanity!

I think you really want to rephrase that.

All I can say is...

Bah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

But seriously, it runs on a PS4 which has a similar processor to my 860k running the show. Even a potato PC with a half decent GPU should play the game well, seemingly it doesn't...

Gaming community is like huge kindergarten. That's unfortunately a result of all this. Game needs criticism, but yeah, words thrown at it feel a bit excessive.

So Steam officially lists no multiplayer support for NMS.
I guess that's that then?
It was there just few days ago, though it was primarly marked as Single Player game.

Well, that sounds quite familiar, what other game could have gotten the same treatment by reviewers on steam...

I know and that's why I don't value scored user reviews any much higher anymore. Let's Plays, WTFs, etc. are more informative and to be frank more professional than user raging about not being able to run it on it's old machine.
