Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

Actually, I think it was a clear lack of communication or poor communication that has caused a lot of the vitriol. Being vague about your game is dangerous when the internet gets involved. I would actually say that 90% of the general gaming public couldn't give a half-crab half-terdactyl's ass about all the hubbub and are just happy to play their games. We, that includes you, are the 10% that post on the internet about video games and our feelings on them...another subset of that 10%, I believe, are the true dregs of society with the death threats, illogical defense of things and illogical attack of things.

meaning...most people are fine but there are is really loud but small group of people stoking the flames.

To be fair that was my point of view as well, till I saw this https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyT...res_the_nms_we_were_sold_on_heres_a_big_list/

As TB points out in his video - it is not a "vague" information, some of bits are very specific. Yes, those are few quotes, but let's see how many quotes from FD have turned out untrue....and even then people claim ED isn't what was promised.

Before buying ED, I watched quite a few YouTube "first play" videos, and each one made me want the game more.

I just tried watching a few videos for NMS, and for the first 15 minutes of most of the "first play" videos are the guys was just aimlessly shooting rocks/lifeforms... Lol

I admit, it's insanely pretty to look at.

But I can already shoot rocks in ED... Lol

I just don't get the point behind NMS.
I was really excited about it, and planning to buy it very soon after release. But I may just leave it for a good sale, because it distinctly resembles one of those games I buy, play once, then never touch again. Lol
(Much like 75% of my steam library!)

I've watched the streams. Does it excite me. No. Does it tickle my need to fly spaceships. No. Is it as good as Minecraft. No.

Mac has reviewed No Man's Sky over at 'Worth a Buy?'

Hell NO!!!, don't do that mistake, learn for us PC gamers, the team is just too small to support nothing but barely PS (because of Sony's Support), wait for a couple of ... decades and maybe they're gonna learn.

The main Idea is lovely, but, over selled (lies), ultra hyped (fat), and almost NO customer support at all, they mainly read Reddit and answer once a week via twitter, something like ... WOOOW TOO MANY PLAYERS, and stuf like that.

That a challenge hey ?!

Let me remind you of perhaps the biggest one of them all - offline mode.

If you remove your rose tinted glasses you will realise that both games have been subject to "dev hype" but both are still great games in their own right. Some people clearly don't like NMS, just like some clearly don't like ED, but that's OK - room for them, plus SC / Limit Theory in my universe ;)

Some of the recent reviews have been very critical, particularly IGN, as Jason S above pointed out.

Personally, I ummed and aah'd about buying for weeks before deciding to wait it out. I think I made the right choice now. It looks loads of fun but just not enough depth for me just yet. Hopefully in a few months time it'll be more filled out. Glad a lot of people seem to be enjoying themselves though.

Which they warned about a month before release, refunded everyone wanting to leave and tried to communicate issue as best they could.

Now HG can't explain multiplayer situation for 5 days in a row.

Explained the feature was missing by 1 line hidden in a newsletter. HGs told everyone 2 maybe 3 days prior via tweet. (Both just as bad)
Refunded people only after a massive uproar of Alpha / Beta players being denied.
Frontier AFAIK never said "sorry" - they said "sorry that you feel bad" which isn't the same thing.

Spin it how you like - both companies are just as bad as each other ;)

EDIT:
Had to LOL at the part in green ..

Limit Theory didn't bite a dust?

I don't mind that NMS exists - it's gameplay loop feels like something could be done better, but it's not primitive. I can certainly see people enjoying it. Me however most likely will pass, but who knows down the line.

As for hype I know, I was hyped myself with ED 1.0 and didn't assume they won't pack everything for release. Lesson learned :)

Yes, AFAIK Limit Theory is still going to happen.
It's OK to pass on NMS .. lots of people did ;)
Yes, I fell into the hype train too for ED ... felt abused by FD over the ensuing months .. never again.

How you felt abused? Just curious. I saw mistakes made, but not something malicious. As for Limit Theory I heard it's a bust, if you could point me to some news, I am genuinely interested, I saw it as interesting experiment.

Dang...though I'd be a bit suspicious of brigading going on seeing how venomous some folks have been about it.

Media reviews for PC are around 5 - 7 level. Majority of metacritic and Steam scores are from people who saw game crashing and will low fps. HG would have save themselves a bother to spend some money on third party QA.

Well, that happens if you promise for about 4 years for features that are everything but real, which you discover as soon as they took away your money, believe me, people gets upset for less than this.

* By the way Dear CMDR Monk, pardon my English is a lame.

I totally get where you are coming from. I'm just saying, I don't think the score is a fair reflection for the game.

Throw shade at Hello Games and Sony all you want, that is deserved. The game, as it stands, should be getting average to above average reviews, in my opinion.

My experiences with pre-orders...particularly with Sim City 2013 (I'm still so        g red hot about that bucket of horse bile) has taught me that pre-orders, in today's world of digital distribution is just plain pointless. So, I hope this spreads the lesson further DO NOT PRE ORDER ANYTHING!!!!

Now, early access is a different beast that I do still support but I recognize from the outset that I'm taking a risk there.

As muh as I am enjoying the game, there is certainly something missing compared to the trailers. Maybe some of this stuff is just rare? Speaking of rare, I witnessed someone send up fireworks from a planet earlier! Flew back over again but couldn't see anything. I have a feeling there is more to be found...

Will say though, the flight mechanics have been seriously simplified since the trailers were made! You can't even fly under anything now...

I seem to remember early metacritic and Steam (when it appeared) reviews for ED were vitriolic. Common thought was they were carpet bombed by SC hyperfans and the most vehement of the wronged from Offlinegate.
NMS had over 200k concurrent players on Steam launch day, so whilst you can extrapolate from 260-odd metacritic or a few thousand Steamers, it will never tell the whole story (I think?)
