Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

I did get bored of NMS before the 10 hour mark, but I wouldn't say it's a "boring game" or a "bad game", just that I didn't enjoy it. That way I'm not taking a metaphorical dump on anyone whose experiences differ from mine.

You contradict yourself - you got bored, but it's not a boring game. If you didn't enjoy it you would have said so - "I stopped prior to the 10 hour mark as i wasn't enjoying it" but no .. you said "I did get bored" presumably as there is no longevity to the game. Eventually it gets boring ...

That's the problem when you try to be all PC .. just say it how it is.

Also, everything on this forum is presumed (at least by myself it is) that it's from the point of view of the writer - saves having to write "IMO" all the time .. sadly, people jump down your throat with like "you don't speak for me" ... well no, of course not, that's "correctness" gone mad, again

Marmite? It's the Brit/Euro version of Vegimite, which is still dead brewer's yeast in a jar.
And I still don't believe anyone actually eats it, I think it's a trick played on American tourists to get them to try it for the reaction.

Nope. I have a mate who eats it spread on Nice biscuits:

In answer to your next question, yes, we do call him a weirdo for doing so. ;)

Maybe then it would have been a better game in the eyes of many.

I think had SM not contradicted himself and outright lied so much the game would have been much better.

Had it also not been so hyped ... and perhaps at half the price.

I got my enjoyment out of it .. 40 hours .. can't be bothered now until next patch.

It has nothing to do with PC (I hate PC as much as anyone), and I'm not contradicting myself at all. I do say (and have said that) "NMS is boring to me", which isn't the same as "NMS is boring", which sounds like an implication it should be boring for everyone. Yes, many people understand that they're only speaking from their personal experience, but unfortunately that isn't true at all for many others. I always have a laugh to myself when I see statements like "if you think x is better than y you're OBJECTIVELY WRONG, and you have no taste" (and yes, I have seen and heard statements like that many, many times).

The problem isn't the wording itself, it's that you can never really tell if people understand the difference between fact and opinion, because 'some' people simply don't.

I bought this game on steam and now I'm quite angry about it, actually very very angry.

I actually like the game a lot (from what I've seen) it really appeals to me, however my framerate is utterly diabolical and it makes the game totallly unplayable.
I am getting 14-22fps normally and it frequently stutters, pauses and the framerate hits 3-7fps I have been trying for ages to get it running ok, even reinstalled win 7, updated my nvidia drivers, and spent ages messing with the settings and try various things like no AA, no vsync, all gfx low, no shadows etc but still the game is so slow its unplayable :(

I gave up last night, admitted defeat and applied for a steam refund, only to get an email this morning and be told it was refused as I have 4hrs in the game.

This isn't 4 hrs played. I've not sat on my behind enjoying the game for 4 hours, this is me starting it over and over trying to get a decent framerate and having to sit through the long intro piece over and over. heck, I've not even got a single achievement for it, so you can see I've not been 'playing' it.

Quite frankly I'm on a tight budget and dropping £40 on a game I cannot play is just a major punch in the guys. I feel ripped off, not by hello games, but by valve,
I'll not buy games from steam in the future, I'm done with them.

My specs, for those interested:-
cpu: AMD FX6300 (3.6ghz, 6 cores)
ram: 16gb
os: Win 7 64 bit Home Premium
gpu: EVGA GTX 770 2gb

I just hope in time they patch the game so it runs on my system but atm it's simply unplayable :(

Have you tried the experimental build?
borderless window mode fixed the horrendous framerates and stuttering for me.

Says it perfectly contains possible SPOILERS ;)

Considering there are no official modding tools yet, it is great to see the modders carry on making stuff, and these two mods apparently work well with the excellent Immersive Space mod:

No Speed Lines and Particles in Space:

No Strangely Shaped Heavy Air Particles:

Hah - I love the speed lines, it's a gorgeous effect - but I hate the weird line particles. This post is unusually balanced entirely neutral for me - but appreciated

There is a nice community of modders building up around the game. It would be nice for HG to embrace that side. Hopefully at some stage, they will let the NMS community as a whole, know what plans they have. Maybe come out of the bunker a little now. ;)

U crazy dude!? If I was Sean Murray i'd be digging the bunker deeper, and reinforcing the doors, while working on patches and fixes. The pitchfork folk are right outside that door still, and not likely to move on for a while yet. They are not there for any 'conversation'!

@ Barking_Mad, that Big Things mod has lots of potential, i'd give it a go but maybe wait for it to be finished/polished a bit more? It is kind of crazy seeing modders make stuff that increases the hardware demands! Hopefully better general optimization from Hello Games allows modders to push the boundaries :)

I have not found any cave dwelling creatures. All the caves I been to in this game (I've only been on less then 10, more than 6 planets and feel likes it's gonna been while before I can leave the first system...) are devoid of fauna.

I've had no problem with graphics or framerate in No Man's Sky at all.

Except, that I did start playing this on a below spec computer and played it for nearly two days straight while processed everything at much slower rate. I moved all over the starting world and started on the next planet after playing for nearly two days.

Now, I have played on and off since about week ago when I got back o my own computer and noticed that the graphics tend to go grainy in areas while flying over the terrain real fast and that was on both computers. Not sure if that is something that could be fixed in graphics options or what.

There was one instance when I had a building suddenly appear right in front of me out of thin air after resuming play. I know I had saved the game at this outpost where the post was situated almost squarely surround by three other structures and one of them did that. Of course, it only happen once.

While I find the grainiess, objects sometimes like mirages in the near distance. Those aluminium outcroppings sometime fade away or look like something else before they resume shape and texture. This needs to be fixed.

Otherwise the game looks great, but some of those creatures look downright awkward & I'm not referring to their unusual splicing, but some look very simple up close or maybe my graphic cards is starting to die.

Same here, really. No issues with the game running, only thing I had was a slight stutter coming into a planets atmosphere, but not serious at all. Regards your other post, critters in caves. I have found quite a lot, mainly they tend to be those crab-like things, they can be a bit harder to kill, but plasma gun is better than the boltcaster, well if its upgraded a little, that is.

@Zak Gordon.. Yeah, but they have to come out at some point, even if its a trip to Greggs. [woah]

Speaking of Modes - this is the Big Things Mod. It makes everything, ermmm bigger. Seems to have gone down quite well.

Awesome! I must get this one. What would make it perfect would be if the scale of flora varied from planet to planet.

Just luck. I've found fauna in most caves on planets that also have fauna in the open. Cave-dwellers are usually scuttling arthropod-like things or four-legged beaver-like beasts.

While there is similarity between the creatures on different planets it mostly doesn't bother me, because there are subtle differences. However one thing that I do notice is a sort of compartmentalization of creatures - I've never seen anything even vaguely reptilian or dinosaur-like in a cave, for example.
