Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

soooo I'm the only one with a few issues?

No, it seems not. Plenty of people in the GOG forums are having issues and some fixes have been posted also, so might be of help for you:

Steam forums have been down for me since yesterday afternoon! Edit, they got rid of the initial Steam Forum page, so my bookmark was giving me an error, the forums are still fine and full on tips and issue reporting.

sadly there's no fixes possible really apart from editting an MXML file, but until I know what the new commands are I can't rebind them (as they don't appear in the ingame binding system), the main issue for me is I use "X" as "action" so every "action" I want to take in game brings up the new fast menu first, which is an absolute PITA. :(

Can you not delete these files you've edited and do a 'verify installation' thing to replace them with working ones?

It's not that things are not working, I can't rebind the new commands elsewhere. :(

I've had a little blap and loved what I saw, especially things seem to be spread out more now and underground resources....but until I can sort out my "action" bind issue. EVERY FPS style game I play I use "X" as action. It's hardwired into my muscles memory from years of playing. I could select F as action or something but that's Melee for me, q is sprint and e is jet pack c is scan...I suppose I could re assign scan somewhere else. It's not a game breaker just a royal PITA.

great key bindings screen is completely borked, reset to defaults....grenade supposed to be mouse 3......no grenades fire :( f is supposed to be zoom....nope no zoom...waddahell is going on? Melee doesn't work rebound it to f and still doesn't work. Game is useless for me now. :(

reloaded and melee is working on F now, all I have to get my head around is E is not jetpack but "action" and space is now jetpack. Hopefully I can enjoy the game again. sheesh, c'mon HG sort out the key bindings screen

Soo while I'm waiting for the Raxxla CG to finish, this Wednesday I'm thinking about booting NMS up again.

I'll give Survival a go, it sounds like exactly what I wanted, a survival game with exploration. With being able to build the focus suddenly switches from getting to the Centre to surviving then thriving. I think that's only a good thing.

Can you not use your mouse/KB software to rebind and skip over the in-game bindings.

I use primarily a Tartarus/mouse, both have choice of setup's and can be switched, so rebinding isn't an issue. I use different setup's for several games and just click the mouse & tartarus over to whichever setup I need.
Now I understand if your using a KB without the option for several modes, then that will be difficult, the only option then is wait for the game to sort those issues out.

Regards other problems.. It isn't all plain sailing, there are freeze issues now, whereas there weren't any issues much for me previously. These freezes are a second or two, if that, but the game will freeze then continue. Doesn't happen much but it is a problem. But I'm sure they will have a fair number of these types of problems to sort through, getting this patch really stable, will take time. But after what they did the first time around i.e. they jumped on it reasonably fast, then I'm not too worried.

I'm not really sure what the AA settings are now, is it TBA or something, never heard of that. I use FXAA usually if its available or SMAA, but have this other on the highest settings and can't really see the difference (could be my eye's of course ;)).
Plus motion blur, which I never really bothered much with in other games, so I'm still trying to see differences as I go along. No doubt it will take time to understand all the changes.

My freighter is now in another system and I'm not sure how to get it over to my current one, so I hope my Captain, who is a 'GEK' is looking after my stuff...

Not sure if I can re do bindings, it's ok I just have to think where my action and jump jet keys are now. I'm not sure why some keys stopped working (in game, out of the game the keys were working fine, mouse button too).

It's a MUCH better game now, and I actually wish I'd waited if I'm honest. Seems we had the kindergarten NMS on first release!

I've heard it is on the hard end of the difficulty scale (or ultra-hard if you start on a harsh planet!), lots of people throwing toys out of pram about it being 'too hard' etc, so proceed with caution. I've also been reading some pretty cool survival-struggle stories of how people have been dealing with it. I suspect modders will come to the rescue at some point and further refine the mode.

Yeah it's hard as hell for me! getting used to having a crappy multi tool, shield and jetpack is a mare...fell into a few caves and pressed wrong button to cushion my landing and took major damage, so don't take falling for granted, I then proceeded to jetpack up forgetting it's the lowest level and I ran out of juice and came crashing back down with even more damage....a few cuss words followed ;)

Initially I was bummed about the lack of resources like Thamium as it's the only thing to recharge life support, then I remembered I can make energy packs from Plutonium and carbon, so carbon was usefull. Not much zinc around either so platinum and iron for shielding shards for the (for me) radiation protection.

Found my ship and repaired it, took off (used 100% fuel though, bit rough that!), mined some asteroids for thamium...mainly got iron. got attacked by 2 pirates and killed...damn greifing NPCs ;) Defo hardcore mode, god knows what predators are like as I saw non on the planet I started.

only thing I think is a bit OTT (apart from taking off using ALL fuel) is the scan recharge time.....although it means using the mark 1 peepers more and actually looking what's out there so.....it's ok actually ;)

Reactions: NMS
I heard that you lose everything when you die in survival mode, that you dont leave a grave, is that the case?

I love this game, still, after 3 months of playing almost every day for about 2 hours. I am slightly biased, cos I see a lot of promise in Hello games and I like Sean Murray - I think his ideas are groundbreaking and fresh. Thats just my opinion, right or wrong, that's my stance.

So apologies over with, I'm really impressed with the update. Regardless of what should have been in the game at release, the update adds loads of content, for me that is, and I am really buzzing thinking about how I can go back to one of my discoveries and build a base. Pointless? Maybe, but I can't wait.

The freighters look great. Not the most incredible game world ever in the history of gaming, but really good fun. The first thing I did was to go to the top of the ship and look at the planets. Yep, it works. So I can buy a freighter, employ aliens, grow plants in me hydro garden, stash goods, build a base, rename stars, planets and all flora and fauna and shoot stuff with me space laser. And get the odd totally far out seventies sci fi photo that even yer nan would be impressed by.

I must get back to the game. I need to finish the discoveries in my current star system (Update 1.11) and get back to 'Progressive Rock'. I had a planet named 'Hawkwind' and all Flora/Fauna are named after members of Hawkwind. Important stuff.

So I've managed to pull myself from Battlefleet Gothic Armada to put a few hours into the new NMS update and started a fresh game in Survival mode. I really have to ask, considering how all they did to the early game in this mode was basically a few tweaks to resource generation, why was this not done at release? I died three times trying to get to my ship while getting used to the fact I actually had to play and look for things to survive rather than just powerwalking through everything, and it was thoroughly enjoyable despite being the same shallow game at the core. But even shallow can be enjoyable if the game doesn't triviliaze every action and there's even a modicum of challenge.
I'm actually looking forward to slowly working my way back to where I was at, and then trying some base building in a freighter.

Still clearly not a $60 game, but at least it's a game now.

Ok I'm about 100 minutes in and so far, my feelings are mixed. The inventory limitations are still infuriating. However the game allows you to construct base items relatively soon and you get a feel similar to Subnautica. The benefit Subnautica has is that your base really feels like a fragile refuge that you need to care for, whereas in NMS it's pretty much invincible once plunked down. Still, I like the base building aspects. I can't afford a freighter yet obviously, but I like that there's some automation for resource gathering available now.

So is it a case of "NMS IS AMAZING NOW!!!1!"? No, but it's definitely a step up from release. Foundation is a fitting name for it: It's the basis for a game, but not a full game yet. If you're on the fence, wait. Give it another update or two. In HG's favor plays the fact that they indeed delivered this update shortly after announcing it, and it contains all the things that they said it would. Which is a start I guess.

Oh and still no multiplayer whatsoever. Apparently you can leave a message now but it seems player built bases don't show up for other players yet AFAIK. Time will tell if that's true or not.
