Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

That company got roasted for walking back on a feature as well.

After apologizing and offering refunds to everyone. Notice the difference? :p

If I could pick the next area for updating I'd dearly love the flight model to be improved, along with a comprehensive bookmarks system for planets in general and points of interest in particular.

And, as Sterlino says, please get rid of the pop-up asteroids!

Oh, and space whales, pretty please!

I doubt the FM will ever be even remotely okay. At this point I think it makes more sense to focus 100% on the planetary stuff. Better view distance, plangen, more believable fauna generation, enhanced base-building etc. They have a great solid foundation there and if they focus on that they can lead that area in gaming for many years to come. If they try to compete instead with ED and such on flight model and related areas they'll just sink into mediocrity.

NMS: Pretty sure that ED contained multiplayer upon release. Not sure what other 'same unfulfilled promise' you might refer too. Then again, maybe there is a reason why ED is nominated for the BAFTA improvement award, and NMS is known for one, if not the, worst lies in gaming history. Again: NMS fans would do themselves a favor by dropping it. Accept that bad stuff happened and focussed on the progress. Dont whitewash history.

True???No.

Look don't start this fight here - this is a game which lied about what was in the release then denied people refunds after they'd played for long enough to be certain none of that stuff was in the release version - you're on terrible terrible footing.

Reactions: NMS
I'm sure Sony played a part in the release schedule but let's not forget that HG only took money from them for marketing...

So if Sony was in charge of marketing, then how is it that they carry no blame for people imagineering NMS to be beyond what pretty much all presentations ever suggested it would be?

Sorry, I know that doesn't fit with the 'Sean The Devil' narrative that the faceless faciles like to project, but I'm beyond tired with the bandwagoneers.

Well if HG retained design decisions over their game then logically they also got to choose what was and what wasn't shown.

Sorry I know that doesn't fit with the big evil publisher twisting the innocent little guy's arm but I'm also tired of people trying to ascribe blame elsewhere.

So, was interested to see it go on sale. And it went... Not buying it even for that much money. Once it's under $10 I'm in. Frankly, I've seen better $10 games :)
I'm a bit conflicted about what to think about their recent work on the game. On one hand - it's kind of cute that they are trying to salvage this wreck, especially after they've got absolutely devastated by criticism. On the other hand...there's absolutely no chance this game will ever be what it was promised. It's just fundamentally different in some aspects.
Also, did I mention it's still full price? WHAT LOL? Even with current sale, it's a steal. As in - publisher steals player's money for this joke of a piece of software.

This is in creative mode. I don't really use my base or freighter in my usual game, but its nice to drop into creative and try out things I might use in the future.

People have to remember, games are fun, but do your homework before buying. Don't take in hype... There is only each individual that can control what they believe or want.

The buggy here is fun, the large vehicle is great, the other seems to be a able to speed over water, but other than that, I'm not sure what else its for. But all are fun.

My base in creative is just a mash-up of allsorts, perhaps I'll build something worthwhile, eventually.
Too busy exploring. would like to take my buggy with me though.. ;)

Experimental branch

Changes & fixes currently on Experimental (Path Finder)
Hello,

Thank you to everyone who’s played the Path Finder Update so far! Your feedback has been incredibly helpful - please do keep it coming.

Soon we’ll be releasing a patch to the experimental branch. Here are the patch notes:

  • Exocraft Geobays can now be crafted on any planet - this means vehicles can be summoned anywhere (whereas previously, vehicles could only be summoned on your home planet).
  • HUD markers have been added to allow you to easily navigate back to an Exocraft Geobay
  • Fixed a bug that caused vehicle weapons and mining lasers not to drain charge
  • Fixed a rare issue which could cause the Starship cockpit to vanish when exiting
  • Fixed some freighter door texture issues
  • Fixed a rare crash when scanning from a vehicle
  • Fixed a rare crash when feeding creatures
  • Fixed an issue which caused weapons to miss-fire when using Plasma Launcher
  • During warp the quick menu now hides properly as intended
As soon as we’re happy that these changes are stable, we’ll go ahead and roll out to the live game.

We'll keep this thread, and will update it as we make changes to experimental. If you experience any issues while playing on experimental, please do let us know by posting below.

Thanks!

Summon vehicles to any planet via our crafted geobay.. That is really nice.[yesnod]

Via freighter, may have been even better. ;)

I still prefer to fly the freighter and land it on the planets or in large stations and then yes, leave with the vehicles from it. (Thunderbird 2):D

If I see lies coming out of the mouth of Person A, I tend to hold Person A responsible for telling lies. Because I am under the assumption that the average human being is in full control of his mouth. Your 'sean the devil' and 'bandwagoneers' rhetoric is not needed. If you want to claim that Sean Murray is not in control of his own mouth and therefor some other party is responsible, fine. Just say so. If you want to claim that people have no personal responsibility for their own words, fine. Just say so. :) Or you can just say "Yeah, he lied, thats bad, he should apologize. Beyond that I like the game and look forward to where it will go."

But to each his own I guess.

Most people will agree that FD shouldnt have promised an offline mode. Most will agree that they should apologize, which they did. Many will say it was the right thing to do to offer refunds. I dont see why Sean cannot be held to the same, common-sense, standards.

So I played few good hours of the new update - hard to believe what they have achieved, its a totally different expiriance than the first release, an actual working game with various goals and things to do. And it looks really really great, most of the crashes are goon too. I seriously start to think HG deserves a second chance and its surprising and sad to see ongoing pure hate from players over the internet.
Yes, they messed up and SM lied on the TV - I will never forget that. But they DO work on the game and the effects are VERY promising!

I think the gaming community is willing to give them a second chance, sales seem to suggest it. :) To me NMS is shaping up to be the new X:R. Terrible launch (although admittedly not as horrible as x:r) but dedicated and worthwhile improvements. Financially they did well, and if they keep this up their reputation will be fine as well. Best of all hype is way down so they can just work in peace. :)

yup I'd really prefer the vehicles to be linked to the freighter, setting up a base on the freighter needs to be tidied up as recruiting NPCs will still say they're going to you planet, when they're going to my freighter!

flying the freighter would be brilliant, and landing? oh my that would be awesome!

How much fun is this buggy................................................[haha]

The planet I have now as my home base is so rocky, I'm beginning to think I should have looked around first, before adopting the planet..
The buggy on the other hand, especially with the jump function, is great fun.

Edit:
What I have found out is, if you build a buggy pad on each planet in the system your in, you can call the buggy to any planet.
If you change systems and build a buggy pad, you get a new buggy with it. That or it brings it across from your previous. Not been back to check yet.
Also going down in caves with the buggy is handy for finding antrium. It helps make the power packs you need for pads. The buggy clear's everything other than a few items, one being 'Antrium'.. ;)

I fired it up today after a long pause, to see the new vehicles and stuff. Fussed around for an hour, eventually determined the correct buildings I needed to build a vehicle, only to discover that I don't have the needed mats, and I can't buy them anywhere in the system either. I can't make them, or buy them.

The shine wore off NMS some time ago for me. I think I played 50 hours or so total. I will probably not fire it up again. It's just too lame.

You can always mess up in the creation mode to play with vehicles. In order to build buggy in survival you need to hire special npc to sit in your base and give you quests for blueprints.
