Well, I knew I was having too much fun and today it went and crapped on me didn't it.
Loaded the game and I'm facing the "Press square to initialise" screen.. pressed square and yes, a new game it seems.
My saved game was broken/corrupt. So I downloaded my backup from the cloud and ... the damn same thing. (Seems I have save auto backup turned on and it uploaded the broken save to the cloud, overwriting the good one)

Needless to say I'm quite irritated and I'm not even sure I want to start from scratch again. :mad:

I've heard a few people have similar issues. I've backed up mine using a save game editor but that might only be possible on pc.

Talking about losing save files, yesterday, suddenly my guy fell through the floor in my freighter, out in space, killed by radiation. Waking up again on the space station and can't get to grave because it's in space, somewhere inside the ship, and I can't "walk" there. Try to reload save file, all saves for the past hour... gone. It gave me option to load an hour back... bleh. I did a lot of stuff in that hour. A little irritating, but I bit the bullet and picked up from wherever it was.

Contact customer support see if they can retrieve your position prior to the bug?
 
First free freighter. Thoughts?
Also, this world I've found is a definition of paradise. It would be a crime not to build at least a small outpost here.

What's the point of trying to get an A or S class freighter? They can't really do anything, right? Their guns don't hurt NPCs and you can't fight other capital ships so shouldn't the only thing that matters be cargo size and cool looks?

Yeah your right.. at the moment. ;)
But I think HG might build out the fleet part more. So perhaps eventually there will be a good need for a better grade freighter. I went with slots and got a bigger one, but it's still 'B' I think, not sure, anyway it has quite a few slots, that's all I need, helps keep things stored.

HG really did an update on animals behavior. Just this moment, I saw a predator attack and start eating prey. Not graphically though. It was just standing on top of it and looked like taking bites but nothing visual otherwise. Perfect for finishing one of my "hunt predator" missions.

I have that in Pathfinder, and i was reading that in NEXT they might have made it happen less often as all predator's now have slower speed than prey species so you will often see them chasing more but catching less often. Still the overall animal AI (and animations) has had some good work.

I saw a green spray/goo thing on the one I saw eating a victim, everytime it took a bite (with it's non moving jaws lol)

That's not the starter freighter everyone gets right? If it is then ugh double time, I got a box with a huge axe on the front.

It depends on what Freighter you have defended. I defended that so I got that. Prior to that in another save I had a different one so just look for those ones and you can get one too :)

That only works one time right?
I already have my free freighter, yesterday there was another pirate attack, this time for a realy awesome one but after killing the pirates I was called on board the freighter but I could only buy it for 67million.

I did get my first S class Exotic yesterday thoug!!

I'm not sure - on my previous save I got 2 free freighters though that may have been a bug. I suppose just keep landing on them and see? I wonder what happens if you lose your captial ship? does it then allow you another free one or can u get more than one free one?

I won't be dealing with my Freighter for another 60 hours at the rate I'm going anyway lol

It appears the real challenge has nothing to do with the game...

You can be as dismissive as you want but you don't address anything. OK then, drive into the middle of a CZ and start blasting then - the point is you can make anything a challenge if you do stupid things "Well if you go up against 10 thousand thargoids, that's a challenge!" I mean, really? Just about everyone here agrees that you can play the game without ever engineering your ship just fine and those that can actually fly their ships agree the AI are too easy,

After the initial round of addressing high priority stability and performance issues, the team have been working intensely on a large number of gameplay fixes and improvements, which we have now finished QA testing and are ready to release to Steam Experimental.

As always, thank you for playing the game and taking the time to report any issues you encounter! We appreciate your patience and understanding while we tackle the highest priority issues first.

Please note that due to the large number of changes in this patch, there is always the possibility it may introduce new issues that haven't been caught in test. We'd like to recommend that all players back up their save files, by making a local copy of thest_[userid]folder found here:
C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\HelloGames\NMS\st_[userid])

Note that we don't anticipate any issues here. However, performing your own backups could mean the difference between resuming play immediately, or waiting for the next patch.

Feedback and reports of new bugs/issues being found on Experimental are welcome, so please post them here, or submit a ticket toZendesk[hellogames.zendesk.com]with the phrase "Steam Experimental 08/08" in the ticket title.

To play in Experimental, right-click on No Man's Sky from the Steam library page and select "Properties". Among the available tabs will be the "BETAS" tab. Select "Code: 3xperimental" in the dropdown menu under "Select the beta you would like to opt into".

  • Fixed a memory leak in the UI
  • Fixed a number of crashes to do with freighters
  • Fixed a crash that affected particular planets
  • Fixed a crash that could occur while creating a race track in a borrowed Exocraft
  • Reduced texture memory usage to improve overall stability
  • Fixed an issue where players would get stuck in The Purge mission
  • Fixed an issue where players would get stuck in the Ghost in the Machine mission
  • Fixed an issue where players would receive incorrect mission instructions while returning with the Mind-Arc
  • Fixed an issue where Sentinels would chase players forever if they did not complete the final Weapon Specialist mission
  • Fixed an issue that was causing dialogue and rewards at certain found buildings to repeat (including Traveller graves and portal glyphs)
  • Fixed an issue that caused players upgrading their save to not have any primary missions if they were on the tutorial for expanding their inventory when they upgraded to NEXT
  • Fixed an issue where legacy saves would not know the recipe for microchips, the large refiner and some advanced survival products

  • Fixed an issue where player ships could shoot themselves in multiplayer
  • Fixed an issue where some base parts were not available in the blueprint analyser
  • Fixed an issue where players would get stuck if they died before using the Navigation Data in the tutorial
  • Fixed an issue where the labels of hot / cold thermal protection upgrades were the wrong way around
  • Fixed an issue where the Efficient Launch Thruster upgrade was not learnable in space stations
  • Fixed an issue where terrain edits caused by building parts would regenerate in multiplayer
  • Fixed an issue where Base Computers placed inside other bases could not be deleted
  • Fixed some instances of an issue where ships would all spawn on the same landing pad
  • Fixed a number of incorrect refiner recipes
  • Expanded the available refiner recipes
  • Removed the chance to get nanites from Buried Technology Modules
  • Reduced the frequency of storms in some situations
  • Slightly increased the cost of launch fuel, but made one canister entirely refill the thrusters
  • In normal mode, slightly reduced the base rates of hazard and life support fuel usage
  • Slightly reduced the radius at which Sentinel drones will investigate players
  • Reduced the time required to scan discoveries with the Analysis Visor
  • Increased the recharge rate of the jetpack when onboard a Space Station
  • Farm plants now grow in real-world time (rather than game time), allowing farms to continue growing while you are away from the game. As a consequence, adjusted farming times + prices.
  • Placed the Space Anomaly marker on the entrance to the Anomaly rather than the centre of the model
  • Fixed an issue where mission markers would not attach to the correct base

  • On PC, pressing P will default to opening the Log rather than Options. Options continues to be the default option for Esc.
  • Fixed an issue where Korvax eye textures would become misaligned.
  • Fixed an issue where falling animations would not play
  • Fixed an issue where the player would play the sliding animation while swimming
  • Fixed an issue that would stop players from firing or reloading their Multi-Tool in specific situations
  • Fixed an issue where Multi-Tool lasers would bend in the wrong direction.
  • Fixed an issue where the Multi-Tool glitched while going into the Analysis Visor
  • Fixed a number of issues for players in specific timezones
