I guess I should've shared this extremely useful website link earlier: https://bradhave94.github.io/nms/all.html

Type in "nanite", and apparently it does convert plantinum to nanites in the portable. Didn't know. Haven't tried it yet, but will later on.

Ye much as I dislike reddit, Im finding meself drifting more and more in that direction anyway cos Im starting to get seriously stuck into the game atm. What I heard was that it doesnt work in the portable, only on the base refiner which means ye need a base obviously. Ill be checking this later meself...killing monstrosities fer 250 nanites a go is fun enough, but the missions come and go and its not the most reliable way of gaining nanites. Need to keep going back to the freighter again and again...I got a nice base, I like making use of it ^

While I'm waiting for Chapter 4 in Elite, NMS is the only game I'm playing. Got a 33 slot freighter class A, 5 exotic space ships, full fleet of 30 frigates, almost all slots upgraded in the suit, made 1/2 billion credits, and even partaking in the community events now. Got the "mind blown" emote. :D

When you kill the monstrosities, grab the goo from the terminal in the building, it can be converted to nanites too. Residual Goop->Viscous Fluid->Living Slime->Runaway Mold->Nanites. It's not much, but every little thing helps.

--edit

Just tried it. Yes, Platinum turns to Nanites, in both portable and medium sized (250 Platinum->50 N.C). Didn't try large refinery. According to the site, Pugneum should turn too, but it didn't work for me.

Now, if you have a lot of Iridesite and Geodesite, you can turn them to Platinum.

Well then explore planets and find all the fauna - you get extra Nanites for doing that depending on how many species so maybe between 400 and 800? What I usually do when exploring a planet is find a high point to land on. Scan everything around me. Find a Buried Tech marker and head to that. Dig it up and find another.

Using that method as you move from one burial site to another you will pick up more species and more nanites and should be able to find enough buried tech to make 2.5-4 million.

Also, when at a station keep an eye out for those geometrical shapes or the discs - they either give you nav data or you'll get around 15 nanites for each one.

Er, well you send six of them out then a while later they come back with stuff and then you send another six out again then they come back with stuff again, so on, so on you get the picture. :)
I wish you could actually send them proper exploration mission that have some meaning to you, like finding hi-tech systems, a space anomaly or just something of use.

Send them on missions. You can have 5 missions going on at the same time, with max 5 frigates in each. Each take some hours or days before they come back, and they're usually loaded with high-end materials and usually pay (after latest update) about 1.5 mil each. It's also quite fun to read their reports from their journey. Especially the exploration missions.

Agree. It would be a bit more interesting if they gave you jump coordinate glyphs or something, and you can go to their discoveries, or perhaps even the trade places or war zones, depending on what you'd like to go for.

Also, I'd like to go everywhere on the frigates and perhaps even talk to the NPC crew. Perhaps cheer up the ones that aren't so happy (some of the ships sometimes turn sour).

I did get off to a good start, had S class scanner upgrade was making a killing...then in haste cos it was a good deal, swapped the multi tool and lost the lot. This being my first playthrough, Im making mistakes along the way thats fer sure...but getting there now with farming and building my fleet up to the point where it does actually start paying for itself and then some.

In all honesty, Ive all but given up exploring fer now until I get the base and the fleet right, and I still have my first exotic ship to outfit. fer some reason, Im not finding all species on planets and with the milestones, Im still on zero...cant complete just one planet even though Im maxed out in every other milestone. Its like that thing ye keep meaning to do, but keep getting too many other distractions.

Its pure ADHD in a game and honestly, Im starting to really like this game now. Next I wanna upgrade the freighter but that costs more than Im earning atm...working on it but like I said, the base and fleet just aint right yet. I found the perfect planet...just not the time needed and kids are back at school so cant do all nighters anymore...destroys me the next day cant function right.

Did the community event last night but had to mute the lobby cos some guy had his mic to his thraot and all ye could hear was some guy with a weazy chest breathing and coughing and mumbling...was cool seeing so many in one place though and barely even a faint whiff of lag. I bought a cute little gold statue fer my base at the end and picked up a couple random friend invites...no salt no insults no childish antics...most refreshing and quite surprising considering.

Nanites wise...ye I got my first exotic over the weekend...a little fight than resembles a ball with an engine but with the damage stats to rival my S call fighter and a lot faster. Spent all I had on the S class and the new multi tool so Im in need atm and searching out these little tips and tricks make all the difference.

Deep down, I genuinely hope Im not done with ED...but as things stand Im just getting started on NMS and Im really starting to get into it now with 150 hours and going strong. Maybe Im overthinking this...but I feel it in me bones this time. I cant shake the feeling and FD recent attempts have only made it worse, not better. Sometimes I wonder if I can be bothered even waiting fer Q4 anymore...cant shake the feeling at all ^

5 missions active at a time, 5 ships max each mini fleet...30 ships because one needs a few extras as backups depending on type they are, warships, support, haulage whatever. Most missions now take a few days real time so its worth getting the combinations right so having plenty to choose from is essential.

Plus it looks cool as anything though my own fleet is only 14 strong atm...Rome was not built in a day ye know.

I see Im ninjad all to hell but sure...why not?

Farming, I tell ya', and fabricate stuff to sell.

It is hard to find them all. The tricky part is that they show up at different times of day. So certain animals only come out in morning, and others only at night.

The big cruiser I have looks like the Star Destroyer in Star Wars. :) Love it!

I wonder is that the same freighter Im after...looks vaguely familiar to a star wars command ship...ye sounds about right I think. I gotta say, some the frigates are actually a cool design and fighting along the flanks of the big ships with laser fire going off all over the place...tries to give the impression its a big space battle and yer in the middle of it.

In reality its just half a dozen fighters trying to blow the cargo pods which ye can accidentally shoot yerself if not careful which turns yer new friends into instant enemies...yep thats happened once or twice.

Would be cool if we could get the fleets to attack each other or see naval fleets going at it hammer and tong in the more violent systems.

Pics...ye I keep meaning to post them too but keep getting distracted cos its not all that straightforward posting pics from the xbox and Im kinda saving meself fer another month or two till I get the oneX to do it a bit more justice.

The animals...ye some do appear nocturnal which surprised me a little. Others used to say that all the animals used to just mill around stupidly not doing anything in particular, but there are patterns and certain diversities between them...predators do actually hunt down smaller animals sometimes and sometimes, some of them are nocturnal and wont be seen at all during the day. It hints at a deeper level of complexity although they are still dumb as bricks...this needs some work done in the future methinks.

Im rapidly seeing how farming is where the real money is in this game...have blueprints now to make lubricants and living glass etc...pretty easy to manufacture these in large amounts and they sell fer between half a mil and a mil, though the process does need some fine tuning and trial and error to get the formula right.

Still aint got round to refining platinum...got distracted finding a new planet fer Bob Marley Memorial mark2. The criteria is totally different to the first choice now I know what sorta space I need above ground and what I can safely build underwater or underground. Only half the farming is done below ground, have a couple atmospehere processors producing nitrogen and have started looking at the automated mining devices...aint used one yet but can build one so thats a little thing fer later too.

One problem I keep having though is the base storage facility...its simply labelled as the last base cache but I cant seem to figure out exactly how it works and if I cant take advantage of the massive amount of storage, whats the actual point in having it? I must be missing something so simple and obvious that Ill slap me forehead when or if someone explains it. I need storage space...am juggling inventories around as it is need storage space...a lot of storage space as its fast turning into.

Supposedly the frigates you send out actually do the travelling they report. When NEXT first launched it was said you could punk friends by have them land on one of your frigates then send the frigate on a mission while your friend was still on it.

Has anyone actually tried that? Or is it just bovine biowaste?

For base storage you need the storage containers (label 0-9, each has 5 spaces that hold up to a 1000 of a resource). The base storage facility is for converting/storing an old base from a pre next update save (not the best name choice).

The Frigates aren't a thing. You have nothing to do with them except choosing what mission to send them on - there's no gameplay around that so I'm not sure why they were added. Maybe they'll develop them further?

TBH I wouldn't bother with the fleet - it does nothing though you can use the captial ship to jump to any star type within range (100lys) - the fleet really doesn't add any gameplay .

As for finding all creatures some tips are to check in caves both night and day and also fly off to a new location, far away from where you are. Don't forget to check the oceans if they have them. Even if you don't get every single one, each one you get and flora gives you nanites when you upload them.

Use the nanites to upgrade your multitool and group them together for an added bonus. My mining tool is maxed out on upgrades, all s class and can do a pure ferrite rock in one go without overheating.

Hey guys,

I'm going to jump into NMS tonight and I'm looking for some "tips for noobs!"

What are the most important thing my friends and I should know for the first 2 hours of gameplay?

Thanks in advance!

In some ways I find it takes away from my gameplay. I go from being Tom Hanks in Castaway, scrounging around to fix my little spaceship, to owning an entire fleet of capital ships in mere hours. It just doesn't feel right, continuity-wise. I almost regret accepting that free freighter now, as it takes away from the feeling of being a humble space pioneer just trying to build myself a planetary homestead while exploring the frontier.

Now in creative mode I play a very different type of game, where I'm more of a James T. Kirk, a starship captain with the unlimited funds of the Federation (or Gek empire or whatever), tasked with exploring the galaxy and building outposts for my empire. I just wish there was a mode somewhere between Normal and Creative, as the lack of challenge in creative mode gets boring real quick for me...

If yer unlucky enough to start on a planet thats trying to kill ye right from the word go, dont worry...chances are everyone has been in that predicament at some point. Its entirely possible to start on a paradise planet but its more the exception than the rule...this is the point where some of the regular forum ¨experts¨ stopped playing and judged the game from that and that alone. The game doesnt even open up properly until after ye leave the first planet which will likely take the full 2 hours if resources are thin on the ground.

The two things ye need to find most urgently are sodium and oxygen...yer scanner is busted so finding them requires the trusty old eyeball mk1. Sodium can be see from a distance as it has a faint greenish yellow glow about them, while oxygen is a dull green that doesnt glow, but they usually fairly common on all planets.

Dont start on the hardcore option...ye will regret that unless ye know how to play in which case, its a helluva fun way to play enforced ironman. But even on normal, ye can get wiped out over the silliest of things like stealing eggs around the abandoned bases and being attacked by starship trooper bugs as a result.

Ignore the sights when ye first log in, just follow the directions and ye be fine and admire the sights later when ye at least have yer ship fer shelter. Have fun interloper ^

Ah so as a relative noob who only started when Next dropped on xb1, Im gonna assume these storage containers arent relevant to me as I had no previous base?

The boxes labelled 0 to 9 I have, but limited to one per base and have figured out how to put stuff in but cant work out how to get it back out again. Its not a huge deal but it is a pita sometimes when trying to store the rares instead of just hauling them everywhere I go.

The fleets themselves...Ive seen their location in real time on the gal map but havent tried following them...figured there wouldnt be much point and just leave them to it. Last night, they were paying an average of between 2 and 3m not counting loot which made one mission worth near 4m...so its not entirely pointless to have. The initial investment of hiring them is now starting to pay dividends and in all honesty, its easy money considering most the missions last fer over 24 hours anyway and all one really needs to do is repair the odd damaged frigate which takes all of 5 minutes and make fuel which takes longer but not overly so.

New base is half done, spent half the morning moving and heres an interesting point...the new base is over 700ly from my original and I could still summon my fleet without any trouble. Ill double check it later but Im fairly sure the distance is right. Oh and ye can still hear yer feet splashing through the water in buildings built underwater, so someone needs to call the plumber.

This crafting tree diagram helped me to, not only hunt for the recipes that I needed, but how to really make some serious dough in NMS.
97YSjAX.jpg

It takes some effort to get all those blue prints, and it takes quite an effort to figure out how to harvest the other materials needed, but when you're starting to get what to do each day, you can easily make 30-60 mil each day with only a few bio-domes, teleporters to a selection of your other bases on other planets, and such.

I built the infrastructure so I could do that, and worked my way up to a couple hundred million, then went out, did the Atlas quest, and by doing that, got my backpack maxed out, all stone recipes, helped out the 33-slot freighter and could afford the upgrade, etc. So now... hmm... I'm maxed out on most everything. The only things left now are base building and exploring. Maybe eventually jump to the next galaxy. My son keep on insisting on doing it.

Still aint got round to refining platinum...got distracted finding a new planet fer Bob Marley Memorial mark2. The criteria is totally different to the first choice now I know what sorta space I need above ground and what I can safely build underwater or underground. The AMU had a bug until the last patch, so it was probably good that you didn't try it. It sometimes would give copper from mining units that were placed on other materials like pyrite for instance. It was really annoying. Now it seems to work correctly though.

The cache is only for deleted bases or something. It's mostly useful for players with games started before Next. I have save files like that, and in those, you lose the old base you built and the cache is supposed to contain the materials from it. You can't use it as your personal storage unfortunately. At least I dont' know how.

But, there's another storage unit you can and should use. In the base building blue prints there are 10 storage cubes you can make. Each can have 5 slots of 1000 u's. So the 10 cubes total up to 50 slots. You get the blueprints from one of the workers you hire for the base.

Supposedly the frigates you send out actually do the travelling they report. When NEXT first launched it was said you could punk friends by have them land on one of your frigates then send the frigate on a mission while your friend was still on it.

Has anyone actually tried that? Or is it just bovine biowaste?
Haven't tried it. But it would be cool if it was possible. It would be even better if you could join them yourself and partake in the adventures.
