Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

Review of the getting the living ship via the star birth mission... of... No mans sky..
Lots and lots of flying...
God dam it... Hello games returns the real world timers...if you don't cheat it. Hello games expects you to stop and do something else in game for 24 hours Multi times not just once but over 4 times they enable a real world 24 hr timer in game.. to block the mission progress...
(On PS4 the cheat is to take the game of line on PS4 and advance the system clock a day each time .... If the console is online the game reads the server time not system time so this can fail to work ...)

There is a ton of in planet orbit space ship flying/driving chasing planet locations... but in some ships the screen location of the GPS is so you can't see it count while flying slower if you don't have VR... argh...
It also broken the portal jumping system that is needed later if your not in the starter dimension... the portal address breaks sending you to the wrong system...
If I did not have a base from the starter Dimension book marked it would have been a pain... (this is likely a bug)

Got to gives props to the first user who was able to edit the system name at the end of the portal jump first and up load must have been Very tempting to rename it using bad words and did not...
Was not expecting such missions on this having to run GPS routes on planets instead of direct markers was a big reminder of how bad GPS was on Elite dangerous and happy its gone on ED...
Bonus that made up for this going in blind was the new multi tools add ons... So they were actually fun...

So is the ship worth it... yes if you don't have fully fitted ships already...
3rd game save reload generated this so stuck with it..

(Yes its parked in the cacti farm for making Explosives..)

Yeah the Starbirth quest was a bit of an unnecessary time sink with the maturing times for the different modules but on the other hand once completed you never have to do it again.
Your next ship just requires another Void Egg and 10k nanites.
I've got three Living Ships now and they look cool imho, to bad you can't fit an economy scanner on them though but providing the different fuels you need is cheap and simple.

I wonder if the FCs in ED can live up to the Capital Freighters in NMS, I love my A Class with all the equipment installed and a whole fleet of frigates.
You can even make a vanity room in it with furniture and such or place your specialists on board with their corresponding terminals.
So far I'm not impressed by the FCs in ED compared to NMS's Freighters, maybe the life stream will change that but I doubt it.

At 5Bn cost this will forever be a moot subject for me as there's no way I'll ever earn enough in game credit to buy one. Tbh I would be genuinely amazed if ED includes anything like the flexibility of NMS in terms of customisation., but as you say, time will tell.

You know, this whole Fleet Carrier fiasco with Elite has gotten me realizing something:

Lately I've been much happier playing No Man's Sky than Elite Dangerous.

The FSS really burned me out with Elite, but I was looking forward to FC's to break up the exploring with mining in deep space. However, now that we know they didn't design FC's with exploration in mind, I'm not sure if Elite is a game I want to play anymore.

NMS however has been great fun to go exploring with.

Yeah, I might just be done with Elite. :(

I watched the 'content reveal', and they said you could buy any facilities for FCs that would translate to an activity or career in the game that we can think of.

"What about exploring?"

"Except exploring."

I mean, seriously? What else is there to actually do in Elite besides explore? It's pretty much all I ever do. :(

Luckily, NMS is a better game than E: D these days, and sadly it looks like it always will be. X4 has also had a massive update in the last few days, so I'll be sinking my teeth into that one again.

Shame. 😢

That's how I felt 2 months ago. I couldn't get myself playing Elite. So much work for so little reward. NMS is more of the get in, do something, get out, feel you've done something, game. It's a no stress game for me. While Elite is a bit stressful. And I finally found one of my old HOTAS and started playing Elite, and the throttle is so bad, jittery electro-static discharge trouble that makes me scream. Can't play without HOTAS, can't play with it. Bleh.

Hello Games focus more on making it fun, forget sim, just make something you want to play. Frontier, make a sim that is constantly broken with some gaming mechanic that pretend to be "real" but isn't.

Like I said so many times before, and for several years actually, why have a 400 billion star galaxy and not make exploration the main thing? It's so counter productive. All that work to create a near-real open-world environment and all focus of game play is in some 0.0000002% of it. Such a wasted opportunity.

I really have to get going with X4 again. I never got fully into it, but I did see new updates recently, so I might try it again.

It's worth it - especially if you like the solo experience. There's a ton of new tutorials to help you (also me) get back up to speed again. Plus it's very controllable with a mouse & keyboard (just like NMS), so no need to faff about with dodgy HOTAS'. ;)

It's long been my opinion that FDev have themselves a mindset for ED where having fun seems low on their list of priorities, and I'm sad to say that there's a very vocal part of this forum that seem to agree in wanting a vaguely masochistic game - and I'm constantly baffled by both.

So it's a dreamy delight that HG want us to have fun with a very chillaxed game that is full of weird fun, a dreadful 'casual player friendly' flight model, and lots of dip in/out fun stuff to do.

It would be hard to deny that NMS is a much fuller and rounded game these days. Heck, it even has a solo player narrative to follow, if so inclined. And their rate of progress/updates puts pretty much all other game companies to shame. VR added for free anyone?

They deserve all their success, and bravo to them for sticking with it.

But, but, but... I love using HOTAS! Even though my stupid one is completely crap now. I think what happened was that I didn't play it for months, so maybe oxidized or eroded or whatever so now it jitters like crazy.

Anyway, yeah, I probably will try to get into X4 soon. I'll be a nice Elite fanboi for next month and try to make enough for a carrier and also play the betas, but if it doesn't keep me interested, Elite will be parked until NE.

I think it's that some people love to have a challenge, like permadeath mode, hardcore, etc. I get it. Sometimes that's quite fun to play too, but some of the things right now are just rough and hard in the wrong areas. A game isn't a survival game because you have to grind for 50 hours to afford a single item that then will have to be maintained with another x hours a week. It's not really hardcore mode or survival. It's just meh.
