Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

Last time I played possibly 7 months back, you couldn't build ships. Ships can be modified but that isn't ship building. I'm thinking more along the lines of SE, EGS etc.
I know NMS isn't a block building game, but they're close enough with planet side building, just need them to apply that to the ship side.

Other than that, they have always had a good game, I played from day 1 and enjoyed a huge amount of hours in the game. But for some reason it holds me and others on update releases nowadays, but then it slips away for some reason.
Mainly I think, as other games have found out, players want their ships to be the focus, it is the thing we use the most in our space games and designing, building, flying, moving around inside and maintaining your own built ship, is the best feeling, for me at least.

So I hope they look towards ships more and they probably will in the future.
You can have Legs. or, you can have Ships. You can't do both (and satisfy the player, or maker).

It's a world view. From both the makers of games, and the players of games.

"Every settlement is procedurally generated, with unique buildings, neighbourhood layouts, colour schemes, and interior and exterior decoration."

I think the only thing left now is tiny violins and angry, emphatic community managers demanding we believe that odysee is standing on a different step to where it actually is.

Proof is good proof.

You should do the Living Ship quest. You start with an egg...

So, the big patch has a patch... about 465MB. Can't really find out what's in it, but I suspect it's the experimental branch being pushed to live.

I had a few crashes last night at various points, so hopefully those are fixed.

Experimental Branch Update 01/09
  • Fixed a crash related to placing base parts.
  • Fixed a number of snapping issues with cuboid rooms.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the fleet debrief screen to close prematurely.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the product research tree accessed in factories to close prematurely.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the trading screen to close prematurely when trading with a landed NPC smuggler.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the companion customisation screen to close prematurely.
  • Fixed a number of snapping issues with moon pools.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented colour lights from being powered correctly.
  • Fixed a number of snapping issues with wall hangings and lights.

Experimental Branch 01/09
  • Fixed a crash related to creature and NPC locomotion.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented players from starting new fleet expeditions or purchasing new frigates.
  • Fixed a number of issues that caused visual changes related to power to fail to display.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented refiners from correctly snapping to large base rooms.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented some large base parts from correctly snapping to each other.
  • Fixed an issue that caused NPC animations to display in unnecessarily low detail at a distance.
  • Fixed a number of visual glitches with dust effects.
  • Fixed a number of snapping issues with new canopy parts.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause NPCs to walk through doors.

  • Fixed a number of cases of missing or incorrect text.
  • Fixed a rare physics-related crash.
  • Fixed a rare crash related to settlement NPC behaviours.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause ships to land on incomplete landing pads in settlements.
  • Fixed an issue that could caused settlement buildings to fail to complete when their timer had finished.
  • Fixed a number of collision issues with street lights in settlements.
  • Fixed a rare rendering-related crash.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when re-visiting a planetary settlement while a freighter base was spawned nearby.

You're obsessed with Odyssey this is a thread for NMS.

Now on topic has anyone tried Frontier out yet it looks quite interesting?

Hope so, I couldn't play last night, every attempt at exiting my ship resulted in the game locking up.

Haven't noticed any major issues since the patch, but I've only had a quick play.

However, I suspect this update took longer than Sean was expecting, and they've probably had lots of issues. It's not entirely surprising that there are a few bugs atm, and I'm almost certain that this patch doesn't fix all of them.

HG are pretty responsive though (take note other software dev houses) - they usually release patches every couple of days (or every day to the experimental branch) until it's 100% stable. I usually end up switching to the experimental branch temporarily if I'm having issues & am desperate to play. 🤷‍♀️

The what quest? Is that one of those that drops by chance or costs 10m for a ticket?

No, you buy a Void Egg in the Anomaly & then go from there. You can also do weird genetic engineering on it there if you like.

In my case, I was randomly given one by a player... otherwise you need Quicksilver to obtain it.

I kinda really have an urge to try the new update. Last time I couldn't decide for a galaxy. What do you guys suggest? I am looking for cool background colour, weird planets and alien shapes.

My quick observations:

  • No expedition or twitch drops yet :(
  • Flight model seems alot woozier, ie more drift and roll. Interesting.
  • Mind blown, a developer can actually improve game ui.. the base building ui is great.
  • Graphics seem to have gotten a once over with polish, but i also did upgrade my graphics drivers (AMD) so could have been that.

Im playing NMS in bootcamp its faster than my gaming pc, go figure.

Yeah waiting for the expedition.

I tried it a little bit yesterday, and it seems interesting. The new settlement building is different than the regular base building, just so you know. You don't really control what can be build, when or where, at least I haven't seen it yet. Maybe that's something that unlocks later. Basically, the settlement game play is like its own game-loop of activities, which is the interesting part. Like a mini-game within the game.

No, never. A few places I've worked at have tried, but I always refuse.

I don't want to get promoted to my level of incompetence. ;)
Basically, that's why I never got promoted. I was told, straight to my face, that I wouldn't be promoted to be a boss simply because I was too valuable at what I was doing.

I probably wouldn't have been a good boss anyway. No patience with idiots. Idiot NPCs I can handle though (if not, I'll just shoot them... kidding... maybe). 😁

I went in for the first time in a good few months, just to have a look. Not really going to hold me in again, it's very planetside now. We really need ship building, or at least as far as they can go using the building tech they have, which is quite good to be fair.

I hope they introduce it at some stage.

I haven't played for a while - is this part of the pet update?
Living ships were last year, in the fall I think, and the companions were early this year. That's how I remember it, but could be wrong.

Living ships is a fairly long process, game-loop, but after you unlock it, getting new ships is quick. I got 3. 2 of them look almost the same, so I was thinking of getting rid of one, but I have an emotional attachment to these puppies. I can't just give them up like that. 😿

Same with my pets. I have a bunch of eggs I haven't hatched yet, because it would mean I have to get rid of some of my babies. :(

I'd like ship building as well. I'm glad though that they basically now have introduced "cities" in the game. It's one thing people have asked about. Especially, why do have have all these NPC aliens all over the world, but where do they live? There are no cities anywhere.
