Soo I found a cool blue heavy metal content world that was not only a moon of a gas giant, but with a moon freakishly close to it. I was looking for vocanic activity, cruising above the surface at a discolored area:
Sensors finally picked up something of interest so I landed and found:
Unfortunately, I took a bit of a hefty knock against a mound of ice and reduced my hull to 27%. Needless to say, I'm flying back to the Bubble as fast as possible.
Even if it did cause my ship some catastrophic damage, I like this moon!
Almost a year ago I encountered this very striking world when Horizons launched. Sadly, I lost it's location when my HDD died and was never able to share it with the community. This world puts both Ariel and Pomeche to shame. It has the deepest canyons I've ever seen, as well as the highest mountain peaks.
Took me awhile, but I managed to track the system down by using this picture as a landmark reference.
This is what it looked like when Horizons first launched.
And this last image is how I know I've found the same world again.
There's no mistaking those mountains. It's very distinct because of the pattern.
Here's what it looks like with 2.2.
For those interested in seeing it for themselves, here is the location.
When I came across a ringed Earth-like world today, I thought I'd make some screenshots comparing native resolution screenshots, and higher res screenshots resized down.
Here's the "default" one:
Then here's the high-res, resized:
Quite the difference, isn't it? Hidden details revealed!
