I think it would also be nice to both not think so little of the fans of Elite that their notes of admiration and/or offers of support are nothing but sycophancy and to perhaps approach the subject of David Brabens reflection on Fans as more considered than scornful.

I personally find the inferrance that any of the people here expressing their thoughts is sycophancy as quite offensive. These are good people here and they are enthused in a mutual subject. I don't think there is a need to be derogitory about it.

David Braben is, for me, one of two true masters of computer gaming (the other being Shigeru Miyamoto). As a film buff I'd equate him to Stanley Kubrick, and Shigeru Miyamoto to Akira Kurosawa..

If so just close this forum, as the endless conjecture and sycophancy isn't doing anyone any good.

This is pretty offensive, and shows that you are a troll, if a slightly higher quality of troll than is the norm.
Conjecture is bound to happen and we enjoy it. If you don't you are not being forced to read it. your "sycophancy" comment isn't even worth replying to.

Henry's use of the term "sycophancy" was unnecessary and unfortunate in that it distracted attention from the main issue; and in respect of the main issue I am in complete agreement with him.

Mr. (Dr. ?) Braben created this forum in order to encourage anticipation for this particular game. And that's all he's done. Not a solid piece of information since, and it simply won't do. Better by far had he never started this forum.

Either treat us with respect or close the Elite forum down. The ever more desperate attempts to say something fresh about this sterile topic are becoming embarrassing.

I don't think that anyone in Frontier is deliberately witholding information regarding Elite IV. They're not a company in the size of Rockstar or EA that can devote several team members to developing one game and several others to another game. All their time, energy and effort is devoted to The Outsider.

That said, I'm a little intrigued by seeing the PC Gamer interview from back in 2004. It seemed to me that DB already had some clear ideas about what he wanted from that game. It would be nice if he could confirm whether any of those ideas will be included (if possible of course ).

In the worst case scenario with Elite IV becoming even more vapourware than Duke Nukem , I would be disappointed, extremely disappointed. However, without the enjoyment I got from playing FFE I wouldn't have bothered to join this forum. I didn't join because I wanted to find out about Elite IV; I hadn't even known there was one "planned" all those years ago. I keep coming here every day, not because I hope to see some news on Elite IV (it has already been mentioned, several times, that The Outsider is everything; once that is done then Elite IV can begin), but because I like reading what the other forum members have posted. There is a sense of community here that isn't present on the majority of forums I have joined.

Why? Where does it say anything in the forums about E4 as a subject? The only header remotely relating to Elite/Frontier is named exactly that. The subject of E4 is only ever bought up by either interviews with David or by forum members. David and the Frontier staff have done nothing to fuel the discussion and as such has not done anything to encourage anticipation for E4. Us as forum members are the only ones who have suggested anything to do E4.

You've entirely managed to ignore the fact that the forum exists for Frontiers games and gamers and there are more than enough other games to clearly justify this forums existence like Lostwinds, The Outsider, Thrillville and RCT3.

You can stamp your feet all you like but it's not going to endeer David or Frontier to the idea of dishing out info just because you somehow feel that your 'owed' it. They have done nothing disrespectful nor anything to belittle their fans. I honestly think you're seeing slight where it doesn't exist.

Can I make a suggestion? I'm pretty sure you know what it is going to be and I am not trying to be offensive or down putting when I say this but don't you think that if you personally find the conversation here to be desperate and embarrasing then perhaps you should just stop reading it.

Indeed I said it before; the people here are just nice people with a common interest. None of them nor I feel the need to reduce to the standard toy throwing nor juvenile behaviour that seems to permeate through most other gaming forums. It's just good people enjoying a general appreciation for both a series of games and the related genre.

I agree completely Steve. I didn't get to read your previous post - it wasn't there when I started to write mine and I took so long to post it!

I want nothing more than to see Elite IV and get to play it and have it be everything I hope it can be, but if it never happens, for whatever reason, this forum will still exist. And I will still be a regular contributing member, as I'm sure the vast majority of people would be.

These forums have been set-up to cover all of Frontier's games, we know that we have a dedicated Elite fan base, so it makes sense to have a specific area where fans can congregate, and hopefully learn about other things we have been up to as well.

This is Frontier Developments Forum, not just a Elite forum. it wasn't set up to be just for people who loved Elite but for the company to allow its customers/fans a place to discuss their past/current and future games. Not to throw their toys out of the pram.

I like coming here and discussing the Elite series of games with people who also feel the same way about them as I do. We have some interesting discussions (not always on topic....), and a bit of fun while we wait for the guys at FD to bring E4 out. Not to knock the Dev's and the posters on here.

Having the opportunity to maybe influence the creatiors of the game by giving them some ideas on what their fanbase would like to see is something I would love. and this is the place where that could happenSo closing the forum as you suggested would probably not be the best idea.

We all want more "concrete" information on what's happening with the development of the game but insulting people is not the best way of doing it.

As for DB how many other dev forums have their MD/Owner etc..actually posting on their forums? probably not many.

Given that the project was started, scrapped, and scheduled to be restarted from scratch after The Outsider is completed, the scarcity of information is explainable and forgivable.

The fact that the original poster suggested having the forum closed is a totally selfish request to make as well - just because he/she/whatever are unhappy and then dish out insults because they can't get what they want right now doesn't justify having something taken away from the rest of us. The rest of us are happy here and enjoy the discussions like other posters have said - about anything Frontier related. All I can say to the original poster and any future posters who feel the need to insult us and have a go at the developers is, "that if your not happy then just go away and leave the rest of us to it."

here is an idea since you guys at Frountier seem to be so against any anouncements i wont ask for much.
