Elite 4... any new info?

Hiya all, i know this request is probably a lil over done by now but does anyone have any info on the new Elite 4: The Next Encounter Game? Game.com have listed a release date in 2010... but this cant be right can it? (By the way they are taking pre-orders for this which prompted me to hunt for info!) But yeah, any info anyone has would be so greatly appreciated!

Firstly welcome to the forum.

You've asked the same question all new members ask at some point, (I did !).

Don't feel bad, you weren't the first and you won't be the last.

The only reliable info we have from Frontier at the moment is that Elite 4 will be made after The Outsider. That's it. When Outsider will be released, I don't know. When Elite 4 will be released, I don't know.

Any site taking pre-orders and giving a release date (even if it's only the year) at the moment is simply wrong and don't trust them.

All I can say to you is keep the faith. Elite 4 will be made, just respect that Frontier won't give us any new info untill they are ready and that they won't disappoint us when the time comes.

Hang in there and keep saying "I want to believe".

A thought has come to me (yes I know these rare events are very dangerous !)

While we are on the subject of false info.

Would someone at Frontier like to comment on Frontier's opinion regarding all the false info out there about a game which technically does not exist yet ? (especially as Frontier have said so little)

Is Frontier doing anything about sites like Game.com and Play.com which are taking orders (but not money as has been discussed before) and giving false release dates (and possibly false hope) ?

I doubt that Frontier does not care that potential future customers may be discouraged from buying Elite 4 by all this false info.

In a German Print Mag, Braben said that he will Announce a new Game on the Games Convention in Leipzig.
Maybe it´s Elite 4
Maybe we have our answers in about 4 Weeks (20 - 24/08/08)

I believe David had his words twisted into what the magazine wanted to print. We are (as of right now) not due to make an annoucement any time soon - in fact we are still arguing internally about the right time to make such an annoucement. Some people want to start talking publically early (and continously) and some want to hold off until later when there would be more to show. It is not a huge religous war or something that we are having, just different points of view.

And while I am correcting quotes I believe David B did not say that Elite IV would be made following the Outsider, only that it would be released after the Outsider - which is close but not quite the same thing.

I can see why too. The gaming public are a fickle lot and are so quick to label a game "another Duke Nukem" that protecting ones proverbial posterior should really be of some serious consideration.

The flip side is that if there is a decent ongoing showing of development (and it would have to be decent to keep us fickle people engaged) it could have the roll on effect of garnering a huge amount of both public and media exposure.

I apologise for mis-quoting David B. I looked back over previous threads and found this (also from you !)

Likewise we are conscious of accidentally generating too much hype, because we want the game to live up to the promise that we will make. For reasons such as this we are not talking about how far along Elite IV is, or even if we have started on it. And for the same reasons I can't even hint at when we might begin talking more about Elite IV because that would in itself be a kind of annoucement. You can ask David B of course (since he could choose to tell you), just don't expect him to.

What I can say is that once we make the announcement we will try to keep you guys much more up-to-date. At such a time a suitable FAQ will be published as well.

Oh, and regarding Play.com - we have no idea where they get their information from. It is a company that I have often used and I find then to be quick and honest - as long as you choose to ignore their stated release-dates as they often make these up.

Could you please put up a sticky about the latest info and start it with a post along the lines of "The latest info is ....." ?

I know I've asked this before but it would stop new members asking THAT question and give all of us somewhere to look for the latest info ?

That's a subtle but interesting distinction. I know you can't possibly comment smars, But I'd interpret that as meaning that E4 is already in development, so our gloomy predictions about it being released a full production cycle after the release of outsider may be pessimistic.;)

Interesting stuff there!

Reading between the lines a bit ( I know, I know!:eek:), something has started to happen however small.:D

I think Aliens idea of a sticky is a good one. people are visiting onto this forum regularly to see if there is any news. and a sticky would give them a definitive answer.

Betwen smars and eurogamer I think its fairly likely that someones dusted off the project!

That eurogamer quote makes it sound as if braben himself confirmed that it is currently being worked on.

Still Im sure most of us having been checking the frontier site for YEARS now :D Ive been stalking elite 4 news for FAR too long to start holding my breath on this one.

I am ashamed to say that I have no idea what happened yesterday so the suspense is killing me as well :eek:

I'll get back to you on this one once I have had an opportunity to talk to David, which wont be this week but hopefully on Monday.

In the meantime, if anyone knows any good rituals for cursing someone's chair I would like to know about them :)

One of the best stories within the industry is how the cow got added to Black & White. Basically as the story goes Peter Molyneux was talking to the press and decided to hype the game by describing this wonderful looking cow that you could use as your creature.

The gameteam goes "we have a cow?"

We all live in fear over what our management is going to say next when we have our back turned :D
