Modes The Open v Solo v Groups thread IV - Hotel California

Like ive said many times it comes down to the broken smuggling meta. While this is around players will be MIA.

edit: Private group suggestion is not very smart. If you don't like pvp, you go play on a private group or solo. Open world is the middle ground, where everyone can do anything. If I didn't want pvp I could still stay in OPEN just move to a less hot spot, or go to solo or private.

Why dont we just make modes called "open pvp" , "open non-pvp". Because that is all you are suggesting really.

How can you be sure?

Space is big. We have three game modes to play in as we choose. Not every player plays in the same time-zone. Matchmaking will not add players into one's instance if the mutual ping times / connection QoS don't cut it.

Because most pvp players always follow META. The meta is smuggling which revolves around mode swapping and being away from players basically. If the meta switched to a CZ around certain systems ( in the bubble ) you will see players emerge again. If you have any open world MMO style experience its relatively easy to see the problem.

So you are saying that PvP players are going into solo so that they can smuggle and earn boatloads of credits with no risk of being blown up by other PvP players?

Doesn't sound like PvP to me - sounds like people playing in whatever mode they wish and NOT engaging in PvP.

If you are referring to the "different missions available in different modes" situation then, yes, some players will use that to their advantage.

Smuggling missions can be carried out in any mode - as can participation in a Combat Zone - there is no requirement to be in Open play.

What you seem to be describing is not being able to find players to shoot at. If one's chosen play-style relies on other players then it will always be vulnerable to the choices that other players make with respect to where, when and how they play - players play the game for their own fun after all.

Believe it or not, that request has already been made - several times. Frontier have not acknowledged the requests.

It may well be that what we have is what we, as players, need to adjust to in terms of game modes.

Go back and read my previous posts. Because I already pointed out the problem. Smuggling involves being far away from everyone else. CR = progression, smuggling = fastest progression. Promoting players to be far away.

If you cant figure that out, then please you might not actually comprehend what the problem is or you are just too blinded by our own agenda for whatever playstyle suits you.

I want all players, to enjoy all their style, in whatever way they see fit. But seeing pvpers spread out mode hopping smuggling, that is not fun, regardless of what anyone tells you. Just stop posting with your troll posts please Robert and carefully go re-read my posts. Its all there.

Pot, meet kettle.

To discover that you're the one not getting it, and the one who is trolling.

Why is it always the pro-PvP crew who drop insults? Grow up.

Can you point to the part of my post where I said I didn't like PvP? In fact, can you find any post I've made where I've said I don't like PvP? Feel free to browse my post history.

Your complaint is not new, and "the broken smuggling meta" is simply not the cause - PvP-oriented players have been complaining about the lack of PvP-oriented players in open since the game was released. Your analysis is fundamentally wrong. I'd cast aspersions as to how "smart" your ideas are, but that would be to stoop to your level.

Perceptive!

No, it's being suggested that you take some responsibility for ensuring PvP in your game by taking the initiative and setting up a dedicated PvP group. It's not hard; it's already been explained to you how to set it up, and it would solve all your problems.

Explorers also spend vast amounts of their game-time being far away from everyone else. Why should Frontier remove the possibility for players to engage in profitable activity simply because it affects the play-style of PvP players? That would be favouring one play-style at the expense of others - and DBOBE himself has said that there is no "right way" to play the game.

The problem that you are describing seems to be that you can't find other participants to PvP with. If PvP oriented players are not making themselves available to you then that is their choice - their fun.

There is no requirement on any player in the game to make themselves available as content to other players - they can choose to, if they wish, but are not forced to do so.

Go make 20-30M an hour while being 400LY from the noob area exploring, then sure. Until then please sit down kiddo.

I don't see how much CR I make in an hour as any indication of progress, and 400 LY has plenty of things for noobs to explore. I'll offer the seat to someone who needs it.

I never understand the fuss about this. I hardly ever bump into another CMDR and when I do I like to have a chat. Now I only use Solo mode when I have network issues and Mobius if I am in a CG and Code are causing me too much bother. I have disgust for those that go hunting new players for kicks because it scares them into Solo mode. On the other hand despite not wishing to be blown up, the risk of it happening must be there for me to enjoy it not happening. Otherwise I may as well paint a garden fence.

When I started I played SOLO more because I was afraid. This is a complicated game to get to grips with when you are new. I now realise my fear was unfounded as being blown up is not the disaster you feel it is.

So I have a couple of suggestions :

1. There should be some starter missions that get players used to being blown up.

2. New players should start 300+ LY from the bubble in one of a 1000 locations. Little chance of bumping into anyone out there. It would also make the game feel very big and a massive adventure getting to the bubble.

Finally, those of you who bang on about meta, emergent play and all that nonsense need to get a grip. There's a reason that Mass Effect is sitting on your shelf gathering dust.

I just tell the truth Sir, it only offends because the truth hurts. It doesnt solve any of the problems. It is at best a terrible band-aid fix. A universe this size of course its going to be hard, but the POI is non existant right now. One swift simple fix, a place to attract high end players.

The newb slayers are still gonna slay. But we could have just one little area where its worth a pvpers while to head in that direction, that isn't Robigo while in my asp explorer.

DW guys don't listen to any suggestions , the game is perfect as is. FD won't have this niche market captured forever.

Ignoring the claim to a single unitary truth:

Your post brings us back to CQC - it's there already. It's balanced and it's fun. If you can't find a PvP hotspot, that's your problem - it's not the smuggling (you'd have challenged my post otherwise). Have you considered Powerplay? That does a pretty good job of focussing players into hotspots.

If your whole goal is making credits fast, and you are making credits fast, why are you complaining? If you are not having fun, why are you doing it? You say that PvP is too difficult because it wastes time trying to find someone to PvP with, yet every recommendation people have given to help you find others to PvP with, you say isn't what you want.

What do you really want? Targets, PvP 24/7/365, PvP zones, what? Or is this another "make PvP pay more" argument?

Hello!

If I might offer a suggestion, how about heading out to Robigo in a combat ship fitted with a cargo-scanner and stop the smugglers?
Act as a law-enforcer or vigilante! Scan them as they're leaving the dock! Follow with a wake scanner! Extort their cargo and sell it for yourself! PvP adventures galore!

As a smuggler who plays in Open, I'm always welcome to play mouse to someone else's cat, it makes it much more exciting :)
Have fun!
