The Open v Solo v Groups thread

Well, I wasn't the one who asked which one would be canonical when divided.
Indeed - however dividing the galaxy would mean that the question would need to be answered nonetheless.

.... and there is a case to be made that the existing mode shared galaxy would be canon, as that is the one that everyone bought access to when they bought the game.

That ship has thankfully long sailed.
One would hope so, noting that there are still those who would seek to remove all effects of players in Solo and Private Groups from mode shared game features - to which the reasonable response would be to give them their own galaxy to affect in a dedicated "Open only" game mode, leaving the mode shared original alone for those who accept the game for what it is to enjoy.

But most of those seem to have vanished since my hiatus, propably to that other space sim we shall not name.
So no need for any change, for neither groups in my opinion.

Many new features have been added to the game over the years - while the "all players affect mode shared features" has not changed - and Colonisation is just about to be added as a new feature....
Not only were new features added but old ones were remodeled, FSD (SCO) flight, PP2 ... No one is saying to remove single mode and PG, just need to remake the mode in a more correct and then many players will quit PG and single game themselves.

Note the mode is called open, not anarchist.

Indeed - more revisions to the game that did not change the relationship of game features and the modes.

In what way(s)?

It is, although it places few constraints on what players can choose to do, which will obviously create friction between players of different play-styles - hence the continued need for the block feature and the other two game modes.

I'm not a developer and can't estimate the need for these modes as I don't have complete statistics and base all my statements only on my own experience.

PG is a private game and I do not consider it. I play mostly single player mode (I don't like single player mode but they didn't leave me a choice) because the open mode is poorly done and there is a lot of deception. If I see that the system has high security, I do not feel safe there.

You seriously should, PVE PGs like Mobius are Open without PvP, lots of fun and way more enjoyable than solo.

As far as I know this can only be done through out-of-game mechanisms, I no like that kind of thing. Can it only be done in game?

P.S. And yes, I play PP2.

Anyone can join Mobius, you just need to apply and agree to the rules.

Where is that button in the game? Can you send me instructions on how to do it in the game? A few years ago I wanted to join something so they demanded that I install some kind of Discord. I don't like that kind of thing. Everything about the game should be inside the game.

That's unrealistic. You can apply to join Mobius inside the game: it's just a PG and you click the button for a join request. But as it's a private group, the admins will only let you join if they know something about you in RL; you have to tell them a bit about yourself and give them assurances first. This is a RL conversation and could never be implemented inside the game.

To join Mobius you dont have to use Discord though.

But you're not really a powerplayer, you're just a module shopper.
I've had all the PP modules in large quantities in storage for about 5-6 years now, except for the Concorde.

I play PP2 to reach rank 100, get 0 insurance and switch to the open game.
Personally, I like battles with other commanders, on a tactical level.
But I don't like the strategic implications of paying 50 million in insurance.

Why in a game where it is easy to escape from NPCs, easy to defeat them, where the risk of losing cargo and data (the reward has already been removed from this list) is much greater than some insurance for the ship - there is insurance for the ship?

No, I understand, the argument in favor of buying a premium ship for ARXs will be removed ... I don't know if it's worth leaving it like that if it's going to improve the game.

I balance play over all modes. Open if I'm just going about doing missions or PP2 objectives. Solo for material farming and private group if there's an activity where I could really do not getting ganked. The mobius private european group, i can confirm, is fairly active particularly around Minerva at the moment with the CG going on. Yes, I didn't want to be ganked doing the trade runs.
