The Open v Solo v Groups thread

And nothing wrong with it. Still bought the same game as everyone else, and am entitled to the same content.

Not to sure how you got that idea. Educating yourself about what kind of game to expect with ED took as much as reading the frikkin' description:

Source: https://www.frontierstore.net/elite-dangerous.html

"Experience unpredictable encounters with players from around the world in Elite Dangerous’ vast, massively multiplayer space. Experience the connected galaxy alone in Solo mode or with players across the world in Open Play"

(Emphasis by me)
you don't like a challenge and i don't read game descriptions And nothing wrong with it
"unpredictable encounters with players" not in solo XD
"massively multiplayer space" there is only one player in solo XD
" the connected galaxy" now this is the correct name for it XD
sometimes you have to play the game to know what it's really like And nothing wrong with it

Frontier have been in receipt of feedback regarding their game design choice that all players affect the mode shared galaxy for well over a decade - they know that some players don't like it, just as they know that some players like it.
as a moderator you can probably tell us what's Frontier stance on feedback is it welcome or is it "whining" as some put it ?

As Powerplay rank no longer degrades with time, it's just another long service award - just as any of the Elite ranks are.

All players spend their time playing the game - how they want to play it (unless their gameplay depends on others and those others choose not to play with them). Put differently, players can't tell other players how to play the game nor force them to play it in a particular game mode.
the idea i'm proposing is rewarding the players who participate in more aspects of the game (open PVP or the risk of it ) with a cosmetic reward that doesn't give them any advantage in the form of expanding their faction territory or being first in the leaderbord these don't count for anything if they aren't hard to achieve and risky , allow them to say "it was difficult but i got there "

Feedback can be offered, best placed in the Suggestions forum, however there's no guarantee that it will be acted on.

That's quite the change from:
if you want to play in private group or solo only that's fine but you shouldn't get any influence in shaping the world other people who interact with each other play in otherwise it's not fair
so bgs and powerplay should completely ignore actions done in private
I doubt that there would be much opposition to a medal for those who play in Open. It'd need to be lost any time a player logged in to any other game mode though....

everyone now has the exact same muderboat G5 fer de lance with PAs and rails the challenge is getting the skill to come on top
Maybe some combat players do - however Zac mentioned that "a lot" of players don't get involved in combat at all in the one of the streams leading up to the release of the Type-8.

.... so no, not everyone has a murderboat.

Sometimes it is as if some players are playing a different game to other players.

nothing changed , influence in shaping the world ; that's territory that doesn't net the player anything other than bragging rights they keep all the credits all their ranks they just don't influence system control / CG outcome etc nothing changed

Every player influences system control / CG outcome / etc. - and no player bought the right to take gameplay away from other players.

these are examples of bragging rights they don't affect someone who might play exclusively in solo so why should solo apply affect these ?

.... because Powerplay has been a pan-modal game feature (that forms part of the base game) for over a decade. Just because players can engage in PvP while participating in Powerplay does not mean that any player is forced to.

If you don't go either armed to the teeth or in something very fast you deserve to get wasted, it doesn't take a genius to realise its a trap

That sounds like the exact kind of sentiment Helmut was accusing me of having with regard to PvP threats...which isn't really wrong. I think their should be some risk, even to those who are minding their own business and that the game should be very difficult for those who refuse to account for such threats; anything less doesn't really do justice to the setting. Regardless, I was pointing out that the game does feature unwanted, purely PvE ,threats that qualified, even if they were notably more acute in the past.

The first time I encountered one of those gold traps--which were outwardly indistinguishable from any other common signal source (they originally didn't have threat levels, and after threat levels were added, these were all threat 0) that frequently contained canisters that weren't part of any ambush--I came closer to seeing the rebuy screen than during any of the hundreds of PvP gank attempts my CMDR has experienced where he wasn't looking for a fight. My CMDR has literally never been shot down in any situation where I didn't specifically opt out of, or willfully delay, escape at least once in the encounter and I can credit the less forgiving nature of the early game for some of that.

There were still plenty of complaints about presumed PvP ganks during those days as well, when the the only thing separating them from some PvE encounters were hollow contacts on sensors. Difficulty and consent can't be the only factors involved in the antipathy some have for PvP.

Going to upgrade my first FSD.

What are you doing there, tough guy?

Putting a secondary on my 583rd FSD and maybe getting some escape and evasion practice on the way. More rarely, shooting down a novice aggressor or two who mistook the Backer # that is still my CMDR's handle for 'newbie'.

Alternatively join a PG like Mobius, play with friends and avoid the muppets.

Muppets are the best content the game has ever had.

Shame they were replaced with Thargoids, who have no sense of humor and don't even fight people inside stations anymore.

look at this scenario : you go to PMF system you do missions that lower their influence , they try to stop you , you use your magic block button to make them unable to stop you from ruining their work
you're like attacking someone else's save file without repercussions
Do you know what is happening to the faction when you kill a cmdr in their jurisdiction? It is the dumbest way to ruin your own efforts. I do not have to take actions against the faction, just let me get killed over an over to lower the ruling factions inf.

you don't seem to understand the concept of fairness
Not your concept, no, I agree.
i don't want to force anyone to play with me until they're messing with my stuff and i can only watch or they take less risks and invest less effort and get the same thing as me that's not fair
Perfectly fair in the context of this game.
Is that so difficult to comprehend?

I do understand how hurtful it must be to have a bunch of players playing the game their way in wherever you consider your stuff might be, but, oddly, the only stuff in the game that is yours are your fleet and accessories, the rest belongs to everyone, or no-one, both concepts are correct.

It is great fun debating what the game actually is, and what some perceive it should be, though, and the same debate has been going on for years, with just a few folk utterly failing to accept what is, because it doesn't comply with their, wholly incorrect, interpretation of the machinations of the gameplay as presented.
