The Open v Solo v Groups thread

I actually rather like the idea of this. Let those that want to play a single player game play their single player game.

Let those that want to play an MMO and have a competitive environment do so as well.
As the shared galaxy, with its pan-modal game features, forms part of the game that every player bought, no player actually plays a single player game - by design. That the game does not force players to play together to experience and affect the shared galaxy is another feature of the game - contentious for some - but a feature of the game we all bought nonetheless.

A properly implemented "PvP-on-off trigger" would actually disable all PvP damage / interference by other players.
Unfortunately not. If it were done as you say for PP It would be not any different than now. Not speaking of full immersion breaking. Next thing you would ask to bounce from asteroids and fly through the stations?

'features' of a game change over time and it seems weird to argue that features can't change when in most every game they tend to change over time. The one true fact being those that stagnate and dont change die.

Though even you supported the idea of a split universe earlier and I think many in the PvP crowd could get behind this as well. It doesn't change how you play your game nor does impact those who want to play differently. In the end this simply seems like a win for all involved.

Unfortunately in the opinion of some.

.... and Powerplay need not be any different than now - as it is implemented for all players, not just those who prefer to play in Open and those who want to set the challenge of the game for other players.

Regarding the last question - of course not - PvE is PvE - we all play that according to Frontier's rules. It's in-the-same-instance PvP that is completely optional.

You are overlooking the Griefer's mantra:

It's not enough to win, others must lose ;)

Some things change, some don't. Many things have changed in this game without affecting the three game modes and the fact that they all affect the shared galaxy.

Indeed - it's a way to give those who don't actually want to share the galaxy with those who don't need to play with them a galaxy of their own to affect, without changing the game for those who are prepared to share the galaxy with players in the three game modes.

Leave the trimodal galaxy as is and generate a new 'Open Only Bubble' for those who want it.
What use is Beagle Point to PvPers?
Start with a Freagle and go your own way.

And the thread continues!

Unfortunately, this impossible. The best that FDev can do on this topic is what you have. There aren't three modes, there is one game, with a choice of interaction.

Imagine that situation: You're find a place, where you can call home. You're doing missions and do everything, to make this faction expand. Then, two other PC CMDR's decides to work there to opposition in private mode. You're doing everything in Open and you see, that something is wrong. Four days later you see, that your faction are close to war, but you still don't know about, who works there. Now question: How you want to contact with attackers, if you know only, that they work in private group and they doesn't have fleet carrier?
That's why I suggested earlier in this thread to add trigger to enable indirect interaction between players from different modes.

Trigger OFFTrigger ON
OpenPlayers see each other in SC, instance separately with creating an NPC-clone in each others instance it interact with.Default state. Players see each other in SC, can instance together.
PGDefault state, see only players from current PG and interact only with them as usual.See other players in SC. When interact with players (via interdiction, drop on wake signal/POI) from other modes there are 2 instances created with NPC-clones representing players. When interact with other players from current PG it works the same as now.
SoloDefault state, see no other players.See other players in SC. When interact with other players (from other modes) the game create 2 instances (as in case of PG above).

.... which, when facing players who have no interest in being interacted with, i.e. "Trigger OFF", changes nothing.

There are those of us who would also enjoy a truly single-player offline or private server game, especially if it allowed for a dynamic AI-driven economy, kinda like the X games but without persistent NPCs. Not that I'm opposed to persistent NPCs, but that's a tall order. An open-source private server using the existing APIs, on the other hand..

This particularly appeals to me personally as 3.8 approaches a yet-to-be-announced sunset date.

I'm not demanding or even expecting this, just dreaming.

That the proposal does little to improve the situation for those who want to know who is opposing them.
Surely. But it also does not remove features which were given (or promised) to players at Kickstarter. But at least there is a chance that these opposing players may set trigger to on. If they want to see to whom they counteract with as well.
