The Open v Solo v Groups thread

Create a vote !!! It's a dangerous game, not all of it....
As this thread was brought to my attention and I was curious about it, some numbers from Inara (all game modes, last 30 days, sample size of tens of thousands of commanders). Expressed as percentage of the sample size:
  • 6% - players that were killed in PvP
  • 4.5% - players that killed somebody in PvP
  • 8.6% - players that were interdicted by another player
  • 3.3% - players that interdicted another player
It worth to be noted those numbers also include consensual PvP. Otherwise, interpret it as you wish.
PvP isn't popular. The game's modality is as best as it can get. Forced PvP won't work.

Disable BGS and powerplay for solo and group players!!!
Affecting the BGS and Powerplay from any game mode is part of what all players bought access to - whether or not they enjoy PvP. Other players, and therefore PvP, are entirely optional - and we all bought the game on that basis.

As mentioned a few times now:

If some players want an Open only galaxy to play in then the most equitable solution is to propose that a new Open only mode be created, with its own galaxy to affect (initially a copy of the existing galaxy) - so that those players who don't actually want to share the galaxy with players they can't shoot at have a galaxy to call their own (shared between the five discrete Open modes, of course), leaving the existing tri-modal shared galaxy as it is, for players who don't mind sharing the galaxy with players they won't instance with.

Pilots who were waiting for the online game and the danger in space will leave the game, and not hide in a closed game. And the elite safe flight game will become

Or, to provide less headaches with forked paths of the same narrative, in a distant alternate galaxy such as Andromeda.

They mostly did already, as the stats from Inara had shown. Really, if PvP is what you are after, there are other options that cater to the likes of you.

To meet a player in an open game is a very rare find and not necessarily even PVP, the same confrontation in BGS will be more interesting if there are pilots participating in it, and not ghosts!

Great solution, we already have it though... open and solo. There is just a bug where open players can change outcomes in the solo players galaxy.

So you are actively seeking to pull other players into a fight? Well then, news flash, PvP is entirely optional and nobody has to play the victim of piracy, ganking, griefing or seal clubbing if they don't want to.

If you seek to form or participate in a tight-knit group for cooperative or structured competitive gameplay towards a common goal, maybe seek a private group.

Not a bug (nor a thargoid), it's a feature.

It might be more interesting for those who enjoy PvP - not so much for those who don't. Whether or not one wishes to possibly be engaged in unwanted PvP is a consideration that each player may take into account before selecting to play in Open to attempt to play co-operatively, or not as the case may be.

This is a dangerous space, if another player attacked it's fine! You have to be ready to fight back, it's Elite dangerous!

That depends on player preference - and, in a game where in-the-same-instance PvP is an optional extra, there will be players who have no interest whatsoever in engaging or being engaged in PvP. Precisely none of the "danger" experienced in this game requires to be provided by other players.

You bought a WoW game, for example, and say I want to play alone and I will play I want to earn all the achievements and find all the animals I don't need PVP. Everyone is killing me! give me a single player game mode

WoW's and ED's world setting and gameplay loops completely differ from one another and therefore aren't comparable to one another.

While WoW requires players to be able to play dungeons and raids, you, for example, do not need other players for wing missions (it's a recommendation, not mandatory) or thargoud battles.

WoW is WoW - and it has, I believe, PvP-flagging. The design for this game has included three game modes and a single shared galaxy from the outset.
