The Open v Solo v Groups thread

I've never been successfully pirated, met quite a few Code members back in the day & ended up siding with them for some BGS stuff because they were interesting

Jordan Cobalt came closest to successfully pirating my CMDR back in April 2015. He didn't get away with any cargo, but he did cost my CMDR several tons of rares and almost shot down the Asp I was flying.

Haven't lost cargo to any other pirate attack (though during the 'heat meta' of 2.1 a fair amount was spilled by people who were not looking for any cargo).

Rest assured that I can live with that.

Well, Mr. Grokenberger, I didn't expect you to die.

And by the way, that is a really weak argument. You can push someone into actions without physically forcing them.

If you've got some neurological or psychological condition that makes you engage in compulsive behavior or unusually prone to suggestion, I could sympathise with that. But short of such a condition, I don't buy that anyone can make you behave in any manner in which you do not willfully choose to behave, with regards to how you interact with a video game, short of coercion that goes well outside the bounds of said game.

Cool. When I was still part of the Reapers I was recruited by a gank attempt, as were a dozen others 🤷‍♂️
Amd now you are not with the "Reapers" (whoever that is) any more. I have formed a close bond with my mates and we practice intensive role-play (ingame of course, not the other role-play thing... 😉), strenghen our backs, provide cover for each other and follow a rich and engaging storyline. We stick together and have a lot of fun.

I suppose (cant be 100% sure of course) this 4 player squad will exist until the end of the game.

Never had it been this way when i had ganked them. We know how to use this game as intended... gankers have no clue what this game is for, what it offers, wich opportunities it provide and what great deep storys you can have. I feel sorry for them.

Interaction = get shot with high powered weapons.

Some people gosh do not like it.
I've got a fair sized friend list that I've gathered in open, many many more of them didn't shoot at me than did...

Its great seeing so many commanders in open lately...since U14...its like a whole different game...I can understand why players complain about lack of commanders in open.

Haven't been ganked so far yet 🤞, 🔨 🪵

Well first time is always the first time. For some people it does leave a pretty bad taste in mouth. Others maybe less.

It really isn't hard to make friends in the game. Ironically, the best way to learn gank evasion is by being friends with a few gankers. They'll show you the ropes and tell you all you need to know. They literally help you to "git gud" and enjoy the game more.

But then of course, if your first reaction to a gank is to cry in system chat and call the ganker an idiot, psychopath, low IQ basement dweller etc., friendship is no longer an option. Because it shows that you're not mature enough to separate reality from a video game.

Perhaps that does represent our fundamental differences. I play this game as roleplaying game, my commander is Imperial nobleman and behaves in universe how his kind of people are expected to behave. That ganky ganker just plays some fortnite in space. For my commander ganky ganker is error in universe. And needs to be edited out.

Posts like these just reek of arrogance and delusions of superiority. If we were playing face to face we wouldn't have this argument. If I played a board game or some kind of sports game with someone in real life, and that someone would bend or abuse the rules to behave like a Richard and disturb the peace, there would no argument of seperating game play from real life. The person would get told of or be asked to leave. Edit: And I also would strongly reconsider if I wanted to become friends with the person if that kind of behaviour persisted /edit. The anonymity of the internet gives this perfect excuse of "oh it is just a game, in real life I am really nice, learn to differentiate game and reality". Fact is, you (the proverbial you, not you personally) willingly and intentionally disturb other players' game for your own entertainment, and this needs to be called out as such. In real life, that wouldn't fly. On the internet, this is "as intended". Ask me? Disgusting facade to hide behind.

One reason off the top of my head: BGS data (but thats dependent on where you are and who you might be aligned with- maybe I should check INARA and see who they belong to :D )
Well nicely telling me if my data in system is wanted or not, or where said commander would like it be delivered would work also. My commander is kind of gentleman in his dealings.

One of my squad mates was attacked by a pirate while we (3 of us) were delivering cargo & explo data to prevent an expansion that was in part caused by top pricing on mined goods that in turn attracted pirates going after the miners. When I met the pirate on my next jump (I had be warned to watch out) I evaded interdiction & had a chat, explaining that we were there to prevent the expansion & were not miners, the (Code) pirate was happy with this, he explained that he was looking for miners & had no trouble with BGSers. I invited him to join our wing & respectfully requested safe passage with the offer of sharing our wing mission & trade dividend rewards.

Next time I jumped into the system it was completely clear of hollow squares, just my new friend stilling in supercruise with another code member. They had not interpreted 'safe passage' as to just not target us, but to clear the system of all other Cmdrs. I did feel a little guilty about that ;)

Rebuy or no, these are what I like to call 'meet & greet' events.
