The Open v Solo v Groups thread

Solo/PG, and the block function do not require build adjustments or engineering of any kind to use. Complaining is still not a viable solution.
A pub provides a service, as does FDev with this game.

If you are in pub and there are other people whose behaviour is ruining your experience (shouting loudly, throwing food, which the perpetrators consider acceptable), then you would either remonstrate with said people or complain to the management (by speaking to the manager or on-line feedback/review).

The solution to the pub problem is not to wear ear defenders, go to another pub or home. I would suggest all three solutions would detract from the pub experience of being able to interact with others in a friendly manner.

Well, what are you doing, where are you going, who might you face? Even doing basic things is enough for a default attack escape. Do I have to post that Git Gud video again?
One need not be doing anything to be the unwilling target of unwanted player attack, given the preference of some players to attack hollow targets regardless.

I'd advise against posting the video - as it is not compliant with forum rules.
Then you equip accordingly, fly accordingly or avoid that area- you know, play the game and use in game methods to continue.

Then they have to learn what open is, and understand not everyone is there to hold their hand- it even tells you when you choose open.
.... or just add to the list of players one does not wish to play among, should one wish to do so.

Depends on activity. I do think for example many AX pilots do not want to fight it out with g5 murder FDL plus the thargs....

pro-xeno activity would certainly be more successful in an open only environment for sure. Personally I don't have a problem with that. Obviously opinions differ, I was describing how my own playstyle would be affected. There would probably be a lot of players that would no longer play, that would be a negative effect that would affect everyone.

I've been doing some faction work in Legacy recently, it's super easy (barely an inconvenience) now. It's also pretty boring ;)

The community arrived in the game pre-split - due to the three game modes.

IMO an Open-PvE game mode would, more than likely, allow the PvE community to coalesce into a single advertised game mode rather than be fragmented into a multitude of tiny (by comparison with the number of game copies out there) Private Groups. I'm not convinced that the implementation of an Open-PvE game mode would affect the population of Open as badly as some seem to fear.

So no Open PvE mode, oppose all changes. Gotcha.

Does it? Tell how effectively it differs from "block any gankers"-minus resulting instancing issues?

Okay some of gank affected players currently do not autoblock all gankers. Thats the difference.

Exactly and as someone who had over 30 years working as a doorman/close protection etc the easiest way was to remove the folks causing the issue, blocking them from the pub/venue/hotel instance 😜

Personally I would think OpenPVE would make better game. Open for those who really want to experience all kinds of shenanigans. OpenPVE for those wanting just co-op multiplayer experience. And solo for those lone wolfs. PG can be removed.

Shame, because it outlines how little you actually need to equip and know- and for ganks its more than enough for most.

Unless you go full pre-cog you still are going to get attacked and most likely destroyed though.

I suspect, given the advice given by Sandro to a player a few days before launch, that the block feature was always meant to influence instancing - that it may not have done so effectively at the start may be due to bugs rather than design.

That the block feature has only been strengthened and made easier to use over the eight years since the game launched might well be the result of players, i.e. the behaviour of some players persuaded Frontier to improve the feature.

Aside from the subjectivity of what constitutes an 'improvement' that's all a given.

Doesn't change my point. The game, as bought, didn't have this feature, nor many of the other flaws and degradations that were introduced later.

Exactly right only themselves to blame, my brief stint in Open over the past few days was littered with muppets blocking pads on Rescue ships and sideways in mail slots, im beginning to think Fortnite has closed down.

Not sure when the block feature was actually implemented - but it was definitely part of the game before launch.

Which to me is...well....a bit sad since you are then pruning Open even without playing it. But each to their own.
Given the chosen behaviours of some of those who frequent Open (at least some of the time), a bit of pruning may well be in order for those who have no interest in initiating or being targeted in PvP encounters.
