@ Viking.
Well, restrictive absolutes don't let you make your own mind up by definition.

We are all biased to some extent but I think there would be no poll at all in your opinion of slavery. I'm not attacking or criticizing you Viking, I'm just giving my opinion. :)

I think the 4th option stands for a lot of players: "When in Rome, do as the Romans do".

Yes, indeed. But to me there are no grey areas here. I'm against slavery. Period. There is no middle way.

Would you buy a slave girl if you found out that because she had not sold for so long they were going to use her for medical suppliers if you did not buy.

And yes, that is something that is in game (check the DDF thread), some planets will eat them too.

Maybe, but the problem with subtexts in a poll is that it almost never fits your personal taste. So it only makes it more difficult to find an option to vote for.

I think people can make up their own mind without being steered in any one direction.

Not an option for me. It sounds more like a "Yes, unless it's illegal" :)

Why, you have black, white and grey to choose from, if your view is binary then however many grey options there are should not affect you, you just pick 1 or 0.

We're a skilled bunch. Who says we can't multi-task? :D

Maybe you can, but you won't be at the top of your game;)

Cool but i will be getting it on with Amber after dispatching you :p

In your dreams :p

And back to the debate.:p

Part of the reason for the strong showing of Imperials is that they are the faction we've heard most about. Other reasons might be the promise of flamboyant clothes and pretty ships. I'm not saying that Imperials are all shallow, image obsessed dandys, but...:D

Obviously Michael Brookes is heavily biased towards the Empire, what with all the early artwork showing damaged Federation ships and the explanation that the Imperial capital ship in the Damocles video wasn't really 'Imperial'. It's also one reason we have Federation fighters as targets in the Alpha:p

It's surprising that anyone is siding with the Alliance as we've heard so little about it. What we have heard just makes it sound bland.

Admittedly the Federation has it's flaws, but at least it isn't ruled by the whims of a single man. The ships may not be as pretty as the Imperial ones (though that's subjective) but they are more effective. It's no secret that the Federation has the technological edge over the Imperials. That's also the other reason that the Alpha features Federation fighters, as the Damocles video demonstrated, Imperial fighters are much more fragile. :p

You don't understand. It's not restrictive absolutes I'm talking about. That's your words. I'm talking about a clear choice without any leading subtexts.

Would you buy a slave girl if you found out that because she had not sold for so long they were going to use her for medical suppliers if you did not buy.
No.

This is the kind of question you get in moral dilemmas, like "A guy is going to shoot either your daughter or your son. Choose which one is going to die." ... and they're made so that you're losing whatever you do. The only right thing is to do nothing. You realize that's the right choice when you see it's not you who are doing the evil act and that it's not your fault someone dies.

So in your hypothetical situation I would not buy the slave, but try to rescue her instead, if I could.

Don't make this about something I didn't say. This is not about me having a "binary view" or not seeing shades of grey. Go back and re-read what I said.

Unwilling colonists

I wonder if you could take a group of 40 slaves male and female a few tons of food fly off into the unknown and dump them on an earth like planet, come back in a few years and find a fledgling colony

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.

Lol, alright I'll give you that one. Maybe as a warm-up for battle, then? :)

Yes, we've heard the most about them because they are the most developed, from a lore perspective. At least so far. Flamboyant clothes & pretty ships are just gravy. :)

Imperial fighters are much more fragile. :p

We don't waste money on tanking up fighters. Our pilots are far too skilled to have to rely on that! Why load them down with armor when they can just fly circles around any Fed ship? :)

But seriously, variety is the spice of life. I'm glad that not everyone is flocking to the Empire! It wouldn't be nearly as fun if we were all on the same (fictitious) team! :D

For a healthy genetic distribution you need a couple of hundred people...I'm not sure what that has to do with slave girls on ships.

Wonderfully said! The illusion of choice!

Same for voting ... left vs. right, democrats vs. republicans, labors vs. conservatives ... they are all the same. Created to make people think they have a choice. In reality they are doing similar politics controlled by the very same corporations/banks.

Unfortunately that's how the world and the people are functioning:

I guess the main reason the discussion got so over heated is ...

... we are all impatiently waiting for the next DEV DIARY !!! ;)
