You seem to have access to more information than I do, I certainly haven't seen our financial statement :) Then again, it is not so surprising since it is not something that would normally come my way during the working hours.

Anyway...

When David says that Elite IV will be published after The Outsider it is the first game he is talking about. That is not to say that an Outsider sequel couldn't end up being published before Elite IV as well - I dont know the answer to that and I am not sure that David knows yet either.

I will examplify what I mean - and I am taking the figures out of thin air so please do not draw any conclusions from them.

Let us say that we are developing Project A and it is expected to take about 3 years to finish. Because we have more than one development team two years into that we decide to start another project, ie Project B which is also meant to last for three years. Once Project A has been released they move on to create a sequel - because most of the tech required for that game already exists they create the sequel in one year.

So if Project A starts today it will be released in 2012. Its sequel will be out in 2013 and Project B in 2014.

So in my usual round-about way I am trying to say that when it comes to Elite IV any hope (or despair depending on your current state of mind) should not be affected by our financial statement.

Ive been *Elite* fan for longer than i can remember!, I loved Elite2 the most though and can remember all fun (and horrors of it like autopilot crashing when you have not saved in 8 hours all night).

This *Outsider* game seems like it could be as good as they claim the question i have is :
Is it for real or what? I remember when Elite4 was getting all hype and stuff and after what 11 years? It is still not here .... We have waited for Elite 4 for a VERY long time.

From what ive seen of Outsider it seems like its going to be *simply* amazing.

Ive heard rumours Elite4 might come about after Outsider is finished, Is this true?.

Is Outsider going to be finished this year and not end like an 11-12-13 year project like Elite4?.

Overall i hope Frontier does make the stunning hyped game that is everything they say and puts Davids name into very high places like Elite (The game we all love!) did.

Merged with existing Outsider thread. The Outsider is in full production, so while we can't reveal the release date at the moment, a release in 10 years is unlikely :)

And would you be able to answer this question (I mean that you (Frontier) don't normally give out info (for reasons that have been explained to me before)).

The Outsider will be released well within 10 years.

wow... a whole page has come up... last time i was on here there was a lot less activity... lets keep this up! frontier, i think it would be helpful if you would give some ifo, it would be like giving a bit more fuel to a car. it brings it to LIFE!!!!!!! :p

After what Microsoft did to GTA 4 ? I won't buy E4 if Frontier do,
I DID buy GTA 4, what a stupid mistake I made.
GTA 4, a game that just barely runs on my new pc, and I cannot save unless i'm online & signed into Microsft LIve.

Go to Microsoft as a pubilsher ?, PLEASE FRONTIER NO.

May I suggest Deep Silver.
They published Egosoft's X-series. I don't have to be online while I play, They (Egosoft / Deep Silver) work with Steam and have Linux conversions of their games.
IMHO a much better choice than Microsoft.

I can't get this page to load, it hangs on something to do with "Transferring Data from i40.tinypic.com" and I don't have an ice age to wait for it to load.
EDIT : I have now viewed this page.

As for getting a release date out of Frontier ... good luck ! We have all asked, and none of us mere posters have succeeded. HINT:D

Forget Microsoft, otherwise known as the gamekillers.

Let's not forget what they did to Aces Studio earlier this year and virtually killed off the Flight Simulator franchise, No warning, just boom.

Digital Anvil, makers of Starlancer and Freelancer, murdered by Microsoft.

The list goes on. Once they are involved, if a game is too complex, they want it dumbed down as happened with Freelancer. Then it has to be available for the console. God forbid Elite 4 ever goes out on one but i can see it happening.

Something like the Outsider i can see on a console as it's that type of game. I played Half Life to death on my PC and felt much better for it and i'm sure the Outsider will sit there too. The trick is to find a good publisher, Deep Silver as mentioned are good, Ubisoft is another one i'd mention, they seem to be doing well and more importantly actually support released software.

I know the future will be systems like Steam but personally, i'd like to have a hard copy i can install and uninstall when i feel like it, play it without having to be online, and just generally use when and where i feel like it without being forced to do the online registration thing or have to be online just to play it solo, as in not in multiplayer.

I'm pretty disappointed now... I've been waiting for this game for so long, and no news has come out about this game for a freakin long time. I wish they hadn't announced it so early... they really need to release something, just a tad bit of info, or maybe just a realistic release date.

Since it appears that Frontier have secured a publisher for The Outsider, its now really in the publishers hands to decide on when to release any info on the game.

Obviously thats all wrapped up in their PR plans, to avoid clashes with their other titles and other big releases, and whenever they best feel the game should be published...

Or, in other words, patience is a virtue. :)
