The PC specs vs. Performance thread

Right so this isn’t to bash Odyssey or to bash peoples rigs but I thought it would be useful if people put their specs for their machine down and what performance they get

PC Specs:

Processor:
Ryzen 5 2600
RAM: 16gb 3200 mhz
GPU: RTX 2070 Super
Game Drive: Crucial MX500 SSD
OS Drive: 250gb NVMe (western digital)
Resolution: 2560 x 1440 @ 60hz

GAME PERFORMANCE:

Station Concourse: 58-60 FPS
Planetary Settlements: 58-60 FPS
Space and space combat: 60 FPS
Planetary combat : 50-60FPS

I thought that if you found someone with similar specs but getting better (or worse!) performance we could compare settings and maybe it might also provide some useful info for players and FDev.

So please post your specs and performance (good or bad)

well I’ve lit the touchpaper let’s see how this goes.. but not expecting this to be as posted in than a “I’m leaving thread”

The game is highly dependent on the GPU for FPS. I am in the process of upgrading and I have still to upgrade the GPU. The GPU is the only thing that I lack and without that the other components do not raise the FPS much, it seems.

PC Specs:

Processor: Intel 11700k
RAM: 64
gb 3200 mhz
GPU: Nvidia GTX 770
Game Drive: Samsung 980 Pro NVMe
OS Drive:
250gb SSD Samsung 980 Pro
Resolution: 1920 x 1080 @ 30Hz

GAME PERFORMANCE:

Planetary Flight : 28-30FPS
Space and space combat: 28-30 FPS
Station Docking: 28-30FPS

VSync On, Low to Mid settings

The CPU is only utilized at about 6-7% in space flight. higher when flying above a planet surface. 20% ish on the planet I checked on.

Define planetary combat. If you're getting stable 50+ FPS then I need to ditch my PC, which is higher specs than yours, so I can get better than the 25-45FPS I get in CZs with lesser resolution.
When having a skirmish with the 5-6 npcs. I’ll do a çz and see what I get.

PC Specs:
Processor:
Ryzen 5 3600
RAM: 32GB 3600mhz
GPU: GTX 1050ti
Game Drive: WD Blue NVMe m.2 1TB PCIe SSD
OS Drive:
as above (single drive)
Resolution:
1080, 75hz, 60fps in-game cap (no option for 75fps!?)

GAME PERFORMANCE:
Station Concourse:
40-60fps (if you mean just Stations - Starports I get slightly less (35+), Planetary Ports I get less again (25+))
Planetary Settlements:
45-60fps
Space and space combat:
60fps
Planetary combat :
45-60fps, very occasional drops to <15fps in very specific circumstances

Ok yeh that makes sense.

Thing is, my performance is basically the same as yours. I think that specs have very little impact at a certain level. I whacked all my settings to minimum and got the same FPS as on Ultra. The rendering process simply isn't utilising the power of our GPUs properly (RTX 3060ti)
That said, I have uncapped my FPS so I get over 100 in certain places.

Can you set FPS to no limit and turn on Vsync? That might get you to 75...I wonder.

Similar performance to me on a 7700k with 16gb ram and 1080 gpu.

I'm managing a mix of med, high and ultra settings having gone from low/med from launch. Honesty I'd expect much more from my hardware based on how well Horizons ran and the fact I was able to play in VR when I chose.

PC Specs:

Processor:
Ryzen-9 3900X @4.00Ghz. (12Core/24Thread)
RAM: 32gb 3600 mhz.
GPU: RT 5700XT 8GB GDDR6
MB: MSI MPG-X570 (Gen-4)
Game Drive: 2T NvMe 2.0 Gen4 x4 M.2 (Partition #2)
OS Drive:
2T NvMe 2.0 Gen4 x4 M.2 (Partition #1)
Resolution: 2560 x 1440 @ 144hz.
Cooling: (Fans, Dark Rock-4 Pro, Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut on CPU/GPU)

GAME PERFORMANCE:

Station Concourse: 120-140 FPS (59C)
Planetary Settlements: 120-140 FPS (55C)
Space and space combat: 140 FPS (50C)
Planetary combat : 120-140 FPS (59C)

Odyssey runs fine. No connections or FPS/graphics issues. Compared to Horizons, my FPS is 140-150 (45C)

You need to not only compare hardware specs, but also do so with the exact same resolution and Quality settings as each other, before you're able to properly compare results.
This is more to see if people can help other people with similar machines. I do understand for comparisons you ideally need identical scenarios but if 2 people with same or similar processor are getting wildly different results then maybe comparing further may help.

Processor: intel 6700k @4.5ghz
RAM: 32g 3200 mhz
GPU: RTX 2080ti ftw 3
Game Drive: M.2 evo pro something or other
OS Drive: M.2 evo pro
Resolution: 2560 x 1440 @ 144

i have everything set at ultra except motion blur which is off.

In empty space i'm hitting my v-sync frame rate cap of 144hz, everywhere else in this list is to variable for txact comparison but lowest i see anywhere is around 90fps, on release i did see very occasional, very brief drops to 60ish but since the last couple of patches i havent noticed that happening.

Lies, and more lies.

On 3090 RTX performance is still abysmal (dropping to 30 in concourse).
The culprit is bad, unoptimized code and brute force rendering.

Yeah, a 3090 should be able to brute force it. However, I don't think that doubling CPU strength would help much, but I only have 1 computer to make assumptions from.

Set the in-game FPS limiter to whatever you like over 75 (say 100), then use Rivatuner (comes with Afterburner) to set a hard limit on the frame generation.

Processor: Ryzen 5 3600
RAM: 16GB DDR4-3200
GPU: MSI RTX 2060 Aero-ITX
OS Drive: Crucial P1 1TB

Docked in stations: 80-85fps - ~72°C
Station concourse: 80-85fps - ~72°C
Space: 100fps. The refresh rate of my monitor and framerate generation with Rivatuner is capped to 100Hz - 50°C (I haven't done any RES work since Odyssey came out)
Planetary combat (conflict zones): 35-45fps during combat. 60-70°C. GPU usage 43-70%.

I have my fan profile set up to hit 100% when the junction temp gets past 72°C. My GPU doesn't thermal throttle, although the fan sounds like a leaf blower.

I'm gonna call FAKE on this unless you provide us an actual video of this. Especially since you just copy-pasted "120-140fps" for all but one performance category
