The Planetary Circumnavigation Club

Just wanted to congratulate cratercamper on a successful circumnavigation of Aucoths FB-W e2-10 1 a! (full logs in our Discord server).

Special criteria for this journey were: Driving (altitude over 4 meters: less than 2% of the time), HUD-less (no compass, no horizon gauge, no coords - only peeking at hull & fuel occasionally when halted).

Bravo sir!

Hello there,
I`ve completed my first circumnavigation...
and I went full nuts, because I`ve done it on foot

Cmdr name: bahasso
Planet/Moon: Praea Euq WE-J b50-2 1 a
EDSM
Gravity: 0.02G
Radius: 190 km
Atmosphere: none
Approximate distance travelled: 1417 km
Start & End point:0,0
Circumnavigation: heading 180° to South Pole, 0° to North Pole, 180° to start/end point
Time taken: approximately 93 hours
Start/finish date: 01.09.3309 - 22.09.3309
Evidence: video recorded
YT playlist
(missing little over 2h of recordings, due to forced hard PC reset, file got currupted)

You absolute loon.

Congratulations Cmdr, a completely mental bold and courageous way to join the ranks of the planetary circumnavigation club!

Do you have an EDSM account under the name "bahasso"? (in which case you now qualify for their "Planetary Circumnavigation" achievement and I'll arrange to get that added to your account asap.

I finally got around to adding @Bahas' on foot circumnavigation to the list in the OP and, thanks to Bahas, I also now have a Google Doc for the list which you can also find linked in the OP below the other lists.

I started a new planetary circumnavigation attempt a couple of days ago and through this challenge I will have hours upon hours of juicy SRV action for you all to marvel and pick at while the entire Pilots Federation is suffering from massive hangover following destruction of Titan Taranis. I will upload videos of my progress to the Youtube playlist below after each driving session, so at this point I even don't know if I'm going to make it or not. It's almost like Reality TV!

Hindsight is 20/20, but it looks like the moon I set out to conquer didn’t just test my driving skills. It nearly broke my spirit. As I pushed forward in my challenge and was about halfway done, the sheer distance still left to traverse hit me like a hammer. The realization of just how much more I had to drive drained my resolve, and eventually, I had to step away. What was supposed to be a short break from the challenge turned into a six-month hiatus from EDO.

In that time, the galaxy seems to have changed. Supercruise Overdrive has made everything smaller, faster. Is it progress? Don't know yet. But many distances are now measured in minutes, not hours, sense of scale slowly chipped away by convenience. That’s exactly why I chose to join the planetary circumnavigation club - because unless the very surface of planets changes into smooth orbs or we get 300 km/h SRVs, this is a challenge where the goalposts are likely not to move, making it still one of the purest tests of endurance, patience, and willpower the galaxy still has to offer.

And so, my journey continues now. See you in the Bubble once I'm done with this icy hellhole. o7

Circumnavigation complete after 8 hours of driving yesterday. My neck, shoulders and butt are sore, but it was worth it. Here's my submission:

"The galaxy bears witness to yet another incredible feat of endurance and determination, as Commander Ariaxum has successfully completed a full planetary circumnavigation at Ishum’s Reach, one of the most remote locations known to humanity.

This latest journey marks CMDR Ariaxum’s second planetary circumnavigation, a challenge that few dare to undertake even once. Thematically, it stands in stark contrast to the first endeavor, which was undertaken "as close to home as I can", a symbolic tribute to the familiarity and comfort of known space. This time, the mission was one of absolute isolation, with a goal of completing the challenge "as far from home as I can", a test of resilience at the very edge of the galaxy.

With every treacherous kilometer conquered, Ariaxum seeks to cement his place in the ranks of the Planetary Circumnavigation Club, proving that no matter how vast the void, or how insurmountable the challenge, determination will always win out."

Stats:

Planet radius: 495 km
Planet gravity: 0.03 g
Number of attempts: 1 (1 successful)
Start date: 2024-02-29
End date: 2025-04-07
Game sessions: 34
Duration: 35 hours 2 minutes 59 seconds

Click here to see the website with a summary of my journey (and quick evidence of my run).

Full video coverage is available as a Youtube playlist, accompanied with my lonely banter on local channel as I drove and drove: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLLWJ2w2KwkHn7jaZSdg9rjbsSXZCehbD7 (Note: Uploading is currently in progress and will take a few days to complete.)

These videos also serve as proof that I followed my personal ruleset for planetary circumnavigation: perma-death, no ship recalls.

C'mon guys, it has been some years since this trend was invented. Can't you find something else to do?
Like, scanning all the stratums of a moon, and post the final count? ;-)
You may want to do that in a "wing".

Just kidding. I was not aware of this thread. I salute the effort and commitment of some! o7

Congratulations on a fantastic physical and spiritual achievement. You’re quite right (and I confess I’d not really reflected on it before) that, while galactic exploration has become commonplace and significantly less challenging than in the early days of the game (to the extent that even the grandest of galactic endeavours, Distant Worlds, has struggled to find true purpose in the latest era), planetary circumnavigation in an SRV remains perhaps the truest test of one pilot and his machine against the vast expanse of nature (with the added irony that the ultimate goal is to end up back where you started).

I’ll update the club's record books later today after I’ve finished totting up the final scores of the latest Buckyball race.

Huge apologies, I got distracted by RL and stuff and completely forgot about this. Records in the OP now updated (better late than never).

Heya, yup still lurking here waiting for new circumnavigators to show up. It's not a race but with an average speed of about 175m/s that’s some seriously impressive flyving! I’ve got a bit of a day ahead of me but I’ll try to get this written up in the records at some point later today. Are you registered with EDSM? If so I’ll see if someone’s still around to get you the Planetary Circumnavigation achievement badge.

Thanks, idk if you saw but i had to log out at one point to reset my speed so i didn't fly off into space haha, and yes i'm registered with EDSM under the same name.

Had to do a double-take: thought you said you started next to the Ikea Tourist Zone.
Well done.

lol … hmmm, is speed logging the new combat log? 😆
P.S. Sorry, the day got the better of me … maybe tomorrow.

Finally got your circumnavigation added to the records. On the EDSM front my usual contact seems to have disappeared so I might have to do some detective work to see who's handling that stuff now.
