PvP The PvE <-> PvP Rift

As a PvPer, the attitudes of a lot of PvPers here make me cringe.

All you have to do to not be killed by me, is not wear a federation power play tag.

That said, powerplay objectives should not be able to be accomplished in private groups or solo. Even if it's a PvE activity like hauling, undermining, or conflict zones. In the context of powerplay it is a strategic PvP activity taken against other player groups and shouldn't be able to be done without the possibility of being opposed.

I am not a PvP player at all. Basically PVE and fairly hardcore into BGS manipulation. That said, I still agree that BGS manipulation and Powerplay should only be done in Open. One big problem with that though, is the structure of the game and the limits it poses to multiplayer play (instancing).

A slightly bigger problem is that the game has been advertised as offering players in Solo the opportunity to affect the economy, politics and conflicts of the galaxy - and everyone has bought the game on that basis.

To be fair, Stealthie has got it a bit wrong. The person he was responding to wasn't talking about hassling some guy in-game because he doesn't like what that specific person said on the forum. The person was basically saying that because he get's butt-hurt about what is said on the forum is justification for him to go out and kill randomly in game. They never talked about finding the specific person that hurt his feelings (who is probably is Solo or Private anyways). So yes, I'd say pretty unreasonable.

No, acting the "tunt" online to another person is the real depiction of butthurt.
So is the "othering" you and others are engaging in.
That is what the OP specifically mentioned.

We're actually supposed to blow up each others' space ships!
That's why they give us weapons to buy.
That's not vindictive or being butthurt, it's a healthy and positive outlet.
In contrast, attacking people on the forum is not.

You have it all backwards, but at least you're not alone!

This guy gets it. Whats everyone elses issue with that?
I take issue with any feature that "forces" you to play in Open especially given certain unique kit is locked behind Power Play.

Power Play is no different to any other BGS activity. Further more, FD have stated on many occasions that "All Modes" are considered equal in terms of general gameplay - Power Play is not a PvP centric feature and should never become one either IMO.

People's mode choices are theirs not yours, and you can't take content away from other players.

There is noting wrong with consequences to mode choice (example inability to effect BGS in Solo). Free choice is about making a decision based on costs and benefits. It isn't about having it all.

See stealthie's response, you are the confused one.

Maybe you should have used one of the less ambiguous and better fitting synonyms - spiteful would seem to suit your apparently intended meaning better. ;)

I am not here to unpack "everyones'" miasma of brain farts!

I am also being very precise with my language.
It's not spite at all.
Again, you're very confused.

To funnel certain parts of the game correctly you most certainly can. It wouldnt be the first time a game has done it. And it certainly wont be the last.

You may not like it. But it sure can happen.

There is an obvious issue here. Lets see how the handle it.

Thing is its time to speak up. Allowing it to go on and watch people tear each other apart over gameplay. In and out of the game is really stupid. Lots of PVPers refuse to use the BGS or powerplay even though they have knowledge about it. Its the toxicity they get from the people not understanding what they get into is the issue. That and the outlet for PVP was been restricted by the modes since those are objective based.

They are there to fight with their team over objectives. Then you find out it becomes another community goal in private and solo.

This last community goal was pretty dang awesome though I must say. A bit off topic, but I went there and seen people PVPing a lot of us have never seen before. And people were having the time of their life picking a side and going at it. Best conflict zone Ive ever been a part of. Hope to see more of that in the future.

And guess what not one grain of salt the whole time from anyone.

The really did an awesome job with this last one in that regard. Hope to see more like it.

You seemingly miss Stigbob's point, Power Play and the BGS in general are instanced and cross-mode and cross-platform features and EVERYONE both shares and affects the same single universe state.

Power Play and the BGS are NOT PvP centric features, they are PvE centric features.

You want the PvP version of Power Play, go and play EvE.

Why should solo players lose out on BGS content ?.

Again, not all of it. Just the ones where player factions and powerplay reside.

You wouldnt lose out on it all. Just the parts where you would intentionally effect other players.

Seems like that should be a good meeting in the middle.

I'm tired of all the bickering, and I'm tired of myself and others needing to defend themselves, instead of their ideas. I plan on taking a leave from the forums for an indefinite amount of time. I fully intend to keep playing the game as I enjoy it (despite it's increasingly large amount of unrealized potential).

Really sad to hear this. Reading your posts was like a breath of fresh air around here. Kinda ironic too, for a guy like me who has completely given up on the game, but still lingers on these forums in the vain hope that reasonable ideas might bring it back to its former glory.

Feels like the end of an era.

I'm not sure.

To me, "spite" doesn't require a reason whereas vindictiveness is a deliberate response to some perceived sleight.

Course, if we bother to consider all this stuff far more deeply than it deserves, it's possible that such people are just seeking justifications for their antisocial behaviour after the fact.
Which, I guess, would make "spite" a better description of the motivation.

In either case, getting a strop on about a forum and then using that as an excuse for lousy behavior elsewhere seems like juvenile petulance to me. [up]

Still, in a world where 300 million people have spent the last 3 years trying their hardest to ruin each other's lives over a jerk with a comb-over, I guess we shouldn't be surprised when that mentality bleeds over into other things.

Why should solo players lose out on BGS content ?.

They shouldn't. BGS should be open / solo.
Is ghost punching in the BGS irritating ? Yeah sure. But it's far from a good enough reason to close it to solo.

As for PP it would be best to revamp it into a open only PvP centric thing. PP in solo is as exiting as playing risk alone...

Unlocking kit doesn't take any effort in Powerplay though. You can do nothing for three weeks, make a single hauling run to hit rank3. Buy the wanted kit the following week, then leave the power.

You can unlock any powerplay gear by literally leaving the station to do a powerplay activity one single time.
