PvP The PvP Subforum's Purpose

PvP forum is about player versus player combat. Its builds, its tactics, help given to new PvP players. Videos about it, its stories and drama.

Complaining about PvP, is a topic for the Modes subforum. Griefing about lost ships, don't belong into it.

Cheers

Every time I post the git gud Gide it has a 50% chance of being mod wiped because it has a couple naughty words in it.

I think it's a great idea to sticky it, just would have to make sure the mods agree

Right on. There could be a warning about it. This would also be a helpful way to address that yes, PvPers trash talk and that sometimes includes naughty words. Of course, there is a line, and perhaps that’s a discussion for another thread.

On mobile. Have some virtual rep. Ziggy too.

Next time I come across a whining thread:

"I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune, OP. Please consider this solution: [insert advice]."

When they inevitably ignore it, and continue to complain while others bicker in the thread, I will simply copy and paste.

Much more fun to just tell them to Git Gud. Then sit back and read the reasons why they shouldn't have to Git Gud and why the game should protect their play style.

I think the sub has a good flow - a good mix of build, fight video, and salt threads.

Salt threads are a guilty pleasure of mine and I enjoy reading and participating in them, but it's good that they don't go too far lest they get out of control.

I do think that proponents of PvP are treated more harshly (yes, by the mods) than those who oppose it. I also think that it's wildly hypocritical to condemn the use of the term "care bear" while condoning the creation of thesis length threads that equate PvPers to pyschopaths, sociopaths, animal abusers, etc.

Same re: Rep

I think 'carebear' and 'griefer' are so ubiquitous nowadays in every single gaming community that they have lost their edge. I don't really raise an eyebrow when I see either tossed about casually. As always, context is king.

So what do you hope to accomplish here, if you don't mind me asking? For that matter, what's up with your MUMU avatar? I heard that its a group, but I'd like to hear more about them.

Oh, you know me, i get around ;)

And Mumu, its our player group. Possibly the most incompetent group in the game, and proud of it!

The name comes from the band, the KLF (also known as the JAMs - Justified Ancients of Mumu) who took a lot of their ideas from the Illuminatus Trilogy by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson (who were editors for Playboy in the 60s and 70s), who took their ideas from the Lovecraft Mythos, the Church of the SubGenius, and the principles of Discordianism as outlined in the Principia Discordia by Malaclypse the Younger and Omar Khayyam Ravenhurst.

Oh, and you might like this reference, there is reference to a fictitious peice of work called Telemachus Sneezed with a catchphrase of "What is John Guilt?" ;)

Hail Eris!

Fnord!

Oh, and here is some KLF with Tammy

How do you feel about the second part of that post?

Are you suggesting there is an acceptable context for that nonsense?

From Bretts post in that recently locked thread.

He would need to find a PVP player that hasn't received infractions or suffered a ban for upsetting a PVE player.

So well... I think that rules everyone who is an actual PVP player out.

So let's correct this assumption here regarding "If X User Upsets a PVE Player". If you convey your post in a manner that attacks (be it trolling, harassment, flaming, etc) the person and not the argument, your posted content WILL be moderated - regardless if you PVP or PVE or both.

Granted, we've seen some folks pop into the PVP forum just to poke and prod at PVP discussions in an attempt to hijack them or hijack it fully resulting in it being closed, so we'll be dealing with that soon.

Your admission something hasn't really been done up til now, makes your point unclear to me.

You're being pretty harsh towards the PvP community, and I feel portraying them as you do is quite dishonest.

They're not all trolls you know.

Some time ago I had 2 threads closed because they were being hijacked. I reported it, and talked to a moderator about it. Message being: tough, live with it. So I saw no other option than having my threads closed to prevent it being another one of those threads.

Are you saying moderation will deal with posters who deliberately try to derail threads, in all sections. And that the OP has some mandate behind it to try to keep his or her thread on the rails?

That would be welcome indeed.

Appreciated.

Since PvP is a fundamental part of Elite Dangerous, treating it accordingly will need a hand, well, subtle and well worth accomplished with its ways. Not an easy undertaking to find someone suitable.

I would appreciate, PvP topics in a PvP forum embrace the aggressiveness needed to attack players in game. Which is in principle, PvP fundamentally.
Attacking opinions and trolling in a forum is quite a different thing entirely.

Altogether, players not liking PvP have there pace elsewhere.
Not here.
Try Modes.

A nice cooprative sub forum for like minded players.
Could call it PvPbius perhaps? :D

Good to hear improvements are on the way.

I'll just say, coming to the PvP subforum to whine about C&P, "griefers", gankers, open play etc while constantly ignoring everyone's suggestions/advice and giving a stream of reasons why you can't improve your game is just a dumb concept.

The PvP community is known for being quite rowdy, yet without a doubt the most helpful and tight-knit of them all. If anyone asks for help with builds, survival advice, wingmates to practice with, or anything similar, there will always be a good number of helpful responses.
If someone is salty straight off the bat and continues to be that way (like a lot of the posts in this subforum), PvPers will laugh and just farm them for their salt. That's just the way this community works.
