The Route planner discussion thread

- Merge Threads

Just to make sure it is not burried over in the other thread:

Hello Commander T3chnophobia!

Well, I've just played a build that has some route plotting, so hopefully that should be in a build soon. It has a range limit due to technical constraints, but for reasonably short journeys of several stops, I know I'm quite happy with the result :).

How does it work?

Well, you lock a destination in the galaxy map and use a "plot route" option.next to it. As well as show the route in the galaxy map and a marker on the next step, it automatically targets the next step in the journey when you go back to the cockpit view.

However, you can deselect it and find it again because it has a cute little "plot" icon next to it (I love team GUI - they rock).

Once you jump, upon arrival the next step is targeted, and so on.

THANK YOU SIR !

Great news!

Then they could perhaps also use similar code to show the travel history. I'd really like to see my track in the galaxy...

Very good news.
I hope it has a good range. I'm not a lazy navigator, but any in-built navigation aid is going to be handy.
The icon on the system targeted next will be handy for exploring systems, just off the main route.

How about a sliding cartography UI in the galaxy map. Auto hide like Windows task bar.

Now where are those fellows who said they didn't want this sort of feature because it would be easy mode? For all of you, just STAY CALM. Ignore this thread. Ignore this idea. Ignore the route planner feature in game. Everything will be okay. Keep your pen and paper and keep using them!

that's nice but make sure that the galaxy map settings stay saved too. i want to only look at hi-tech economies. I go to view tab deselect all others, find a system, go to the system map and when i come back to galaxy map, i have to do it all over again.
