The Route planner discussion thread

I really REALLY hope that FD will make a in game travel planner, 3rd party apps should not be used no matter how good they are, if FDEV can't get the galaxy right with these basic functions I don't know what. However I trust them to do the right thing :)

I would like to select my destination and then the via points on the galactic map so that when I jump into a system I can then orientate my ship away from the sun and towards the destination without stearing away in a random direction, select my new destination and then possibly end up swinging the ship towards the sun by accident and being dropped out of sc which is a pain.
Obviously if I wanted to, I could see what was in the system before pointing my ship towards the destination system and jumping as could be needed due to fuel scooping or docking at the station etc

You can avoid that if you open the navigation panel already in hyperjump. When the ship leaves hyperjump there is a white flashing. From that point you can control the navcomputer. Most times the target directly under galaxy map is selected. So I wait for the white flash and press up, wait for the panel to react and perhaps correct the selection if its not on the galaxymamp already. Then I open the galaxymap. This way the ship stops immediately and wont get closer to the sun. Leaving the galaxymap it stands still (I used that technique for the Buckyball Run 3 and it turned out, that I was the fastest pilot  ).

But I miss a routing-module, too.

Thanks for the tip, I will try it but the routing module is a must, maybe the will have it as an accessory you have to buy at the shipyard (software update )

Trade route calculators

Hi all,

Am I correct in saying that the Slopey tool is no longer working as of a ED request from the developers? Are there any trade tools that are still available that do currently still work?

Thanks in advance

Correct, it's not working, nor should you be using any other data scraping tool as per Michael Brook's announcement the other day; FD don't want you using them as they bug the core game. You can always pen and paper, or try looking for online (non-scraping) resources.

You don't really need them anyway, once you get used to the Galaxy Map and the info therein, just accept that you won't always make the maximum profit possible within the game. I've used the GM and trade routes for the last two weeks and always made a profit.

You didn't answer his entire question but instead felt to inject your person opinion which wasn't what he asked for.

And asking someone to accept they will never make better profits? Wow. Ya folks, never strive to get the best returns for your time because others have a specific way to play and playing different then them is wrong. You want to sit in front of a game and scribble down figures on a piece of paper, good for you. But a lot do not.

Also, the tools didn't bug the "Core" anything. Trading is still erratic even after the tools were turned off. Slopey's or anyone else's tool did not "bug" anything. It was the marketdump that was causing a crash with a specific break point. Lets not spread bad information.

At the moment most of the tools are offline. You can still download slopey's tool and look at the old database before it was suspended. That still is the most complete list of trade routes that you will find right now. The data is still old but you can still use it to see how markets were working in the past and its still usable data right now. I've checked about 10+ systems and they are all trading well plus or minus a few thousand creds, nothing is a loss yet.

Just make sure that if you do use slopey's tool, turn off that DOS window that pops up. That isn't working anyways and that's the marketdump that was causing the issue.

What I have done with Slopey's tool was exported the data out into excel and I'm manually updating the more profitable routes and removing all the dead weight. I'm tailoring it to specific ships. All that data is still very usable.

Also there is another tool HERE
It's a big ole spreadsheet with a lot of functions.

Right now there are people working on alternate methods for automating the data scraping without hooking into the game. When something of that nature pops up, it will be all over the forums, especially from the waa waa group that doesn't like someone else using 3rd party tools even though it has zero effect on them.

Just keep an eye on the forums. Something is bound to pop up soon.

Good luck :)

Sure, there is "Trade Dangerous", which I developed as a natural evolution of my writing hand notes back in Elite days and late E:D alphas. It's not for the faint hearted (you need to install Python and it runs from the command line), and without something like EMDN or a prices API from E:D you'll be manually updating prices in your own, personal, private, price database (you can either edit the data/TradeDangerous.prices file or you can use the command line, e.g. "trade.py update --notepad Aulin").

I deliberately try to maintain the same ordering as the lists in-game to make it easier to quickly check for changes. If I get chance in the next week or so I'll try and get the "guided" version running ("trade.py update Aulin") but no promises.

Request: Route Planner

With the massive amount of star systems that are (and will be) available.

What I would like to see is some sort of route planner. Where you go to the galaxy map, select the system you want to go to, and the planner will automatically select the star systems that you need to travel through.

So after selecting a star that is 10 jumps from you, when coming out of the galaxy map, it will select the nearest star for the route. Then after traveling to that star, it will automatically select the next star and so on.

Thoughts?

I'm with you on that. I'm sure it's been brought up a few times actually.

I'm finding it really hard to navigate in 3D space and keep running down dead ends.

As has been said before, the planned route should be in your ships computer and each system could be auto targeted as you go. Maybe even a full on auto pilot that would perform the jumps for you too while you sit back and and create some brownian motion.

Or is all that just too lazy?

i like the idea of an "itinerary planner" but im ok with it not auto selecting the next target after a jump as i may want to stick around in each new system and look for targets to investigate

A route planner is already planned so don't worry. :)

It's just not implemented yet. Let's see what happens in Beta 3.
