The Route planner discussion thread

I thought the route planner was 100Ly, or thereabouts. It plans all routes out in a bubble though, so if you're doing max range then it takes a long time to draw all the lines in before you can select the 'map route' option on your destination. The other thing to check is that you're setting the map to fastest route, not most economical.

Took my Asp with 30LY jump range out to the Orion nebular and the route planner could calculate up to 150LY at times because the density of stars (amount of stars in let's say an area of a 50x50LY square) was so low. As soon as I got into the actual nebular where there are a LOT of stars, the calculation slowed down so much, you couldn't use it at all (check around EZ Orionis on your map, you can see what I mean and why it happens).

So yeah, definitely would like to have an actual planner that lets you select a star and ONLY plan the route to that. I mean that's how nav systems in cars work, don't they? If I want to visit a nearby city, I don't have to wait for 5 minutes until my system actually lets me select a route because it calculated ways to every city in 100km range, do I?
:D

Suggestion: Prioritisation for galaxy map route calulations

Hi there,

Space is of course 3D and sequential calculations of jump route naturally seems to slow as we go further from the players location.

I think simple improvement to the Galaxy Map could be that, once we have 'selected' a distant system, the engine could, instead of calculating routes throughout an expanding volume, calculate them along a cone towards the selected system instead. Cone shape being picked by FD*. Perhas a 'cone' could be the aim with widening/branching used when cone routes fail.

Regards,
Sparks

*Suggestion of a cone is mainly for a simple visualisation. I presume that the shape would not be that importation; more that it would extend towards the destination and try to encapsulate potential odd directions when they are the only route.

trading route explaination.... help

Hi

I keep on reading about finding profitable route... it is like saying find 2 starport and trade between them ?.... I have started using slopey's tools, would this tool be a good tool to find trading route ?

thanks to explain it... because it is not clear yet to me....

Short answer is yes, it's as simple as finding two places and trading between them. You just need to see what they need in each place and the prices, then supply commodity A to place 2 purchased in place 1, then on your return run purchase commodity B from place 2 and sell it in place 1. Repeat.

I just managed to fix this by deleting <user>\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\* (to be specific, deleted all folders except "Player"). When I started the game, fastest route etc was working again. I did have to reconfigure all my settings, so maybe someone else knows exactly what file(s) were causing problems so you can delete just the problem ones and save yourself some reconfiguring.

Please add LAST ROUTE option and a option PLAN ROUTE..

Hi

Im a trader and i find it annoying that i have to plot in course everytime. It would be nice with a LAST ROUTE and a PLAN ROUTE option, in the navigation menu.

Modern GPS's have those optione, my TomTom does... and we are far into the future here :)

Good idea. I'd like a "return journey" option for when I'm making a bulletin board goods run from A to B and straight back. Perhaps if they made the NavComputer a module it could come with the basic model (the one we currently have) and be upgradable to bells and whistles like return journey, last route, plan route, favourite routes, and/or detour routes so you could avoid certain systems where you have outstanding warrants or if you wanted to travel in only "safe" systems; no anarchy or uncharted systems.

Save flight route data before exit

it seems the game does not save planned routes on exit. I set quite a long jump route and quit before reaching destination. When I retured to game later on, I had to set it again as game forgot where I was heading. Therefore it would be quite important to get it saved between sessions.

Is this a good trade route?

Hello all

I have a trade route with one jump, 2 stations around 1000Ls from their sun, if i do that back and forward i earn around 200k with 2 jumps in 10min. I have a lakon type 6 with 112 cargohold.
Now is my question if this is a good run or should i search for a better one?

Best I've done is about 2200k round trip so that's about 250k per trip but the stations were a little bit closer, like 300Ls or so. But yeah, that's really nice trade route, from my calculations you're making 1.7k per round trip.

Hi,

Was just thinking about this with regards to the Plan Route option.

It'd be good if you could plan a route in the Galaxy Map allowing you to plan and save a round trip spanning numerous systems.

Request: Retaining choice between economical/fast route plotting across sessions

Hello,

If we choose the "Faster routes" setting on the Galaxy map, "Save and exit to main menu" and reload the game, "Faster routes" remains selected. Great.

However, if we choose "Faster routes", "Save and exit", close the launcher, relaunch and reload the game (e.g. a new session), we are defaulted back to "Economical routes".

Please could the status be preserved across session? Or is there some reason for the defaulting?

Unable to Plot Route?

Hi,

I'm currently in Jameson Memorial (Shinrarta Dezhra) and have located Lave, however Plan Route is unavailable. Why would this be?

Regards

Route calculation takes a bit of time. If Lave is more than 100 LY from your current location, it is impossible to calculate a route to it. Just begin moving in Lave's general direction using the route planner, and it'll pop when you close within 100 LY of it.
