In Areas which are now Germany, serfdom has only been ended during the 19th century . You were born into it, by the status of your mother . Or you could simply become a serf if you settled in a region where the majority of folks were serfs (!) . Freeborn children became serfs if their parents became serfs (!) . It is not the same as slavery, but similar in many aspects . Serfs were not "free people" . Many if not most were white though, I assume .

And serfdom does not even necessarily distinguish by "race"....allegedly goes back to a King of Franks in 5th century, who put an entire Nation - the Alemans ( just a different nation, not "race" ) under serfdom .

Don't forget the romans! The Empire slavery in ED is after all modelled over the roman slavery model. And then there is modern legal slavery in the form of zero-hour contracts and years-long clauses locking people out of their speciality area if they quit or get laid off.

There are some of us ( humans ) who think the entire concept of wage based employment in order to be able to "make a living"...comes down to wage slavery for many . Structurally pretty much identical to how serfdom worked . You do not own what you use to generate wealth, and you are only given a small portion of the wealth you create to be able to go on creating more wealth....for those who profit extremely from what you are doing .

It is the conditions of some employment contracts that mimics slavery conditions, as well as the (in)ability to quit in some economies.

What I am trying to get at I guess is, quite some people do seem to not be aware that, where I live, the concept of being a "free person" was really not well known to a LOT of people less than 200 years ago . At all .

In European cultures, for millenia people were distinguished as either "free" or "not free" . People from WITHIN the SAME "race"...and even nation or culture .

And the aftereffects of the Status driven inequalities can STILL be seen, and measured, in many european countries today . In Germany for instance, there can be no talk about equal opportunity in education ( or even "free education" anymore; Universities are charging for a few years now XD ) . It has been very clearly shown that children coming from wealthy families have a MUCH ( about factor 4 is last I read ) better chance of attaining any kind of higher education than children from poorer families .

Yeah. In Denmark, serfdom didn't go away until 1800.

That really is going back to basics with the ultimate political question. Banned topic (I know); it is really a choice of Totalitarianism or Democracy. They are the two existing systems. Totalitarianism is achieving more at the moment but I'd rather live in a failing democracy.

But there is no emergency. There is no second wave
.
- Larry Kudlow today on Fox News.

So now we know.

Extensive colourful remarks redacted in response. Maybe we should consider a new investment in toilet paper and Clorox bleach? Restock the bunkers?

I still got my confinement mate, Felisberto:

I'm hoping I won't have to sacrifice him. It would be very nasty for him...

He must not have heard of I think 25 states having opened up prematurely and without a plan, and now seeing rising infections again....15 of which reporting new highs today . Ah well, right, that is not a 2nd wave....they are not even through with the first one yet XD .

There are definitely more than 2 ( and diametrically opposite ) known, and probably a few other ( not well known) models of how human societies can organize . Not everything is binary . Life does not always come down to a choice between 2 opposites .

Tulsa is one of the places spiking today.

One week from now in Covid spiking Tulsa, an indoor event with 20,000 people is planned, by a group that never wears masks, drinks detergent, considers Covid to be the flu, and suspects 5G and Bill Gates etc.
They have to sign legal waivers not to sue if they get sick. Of course, it's just a hoax, so why are they signing a waiver? Never mind, logic does not compute there.

This is spectacular Darwinism. Hope it will be on TV for posterity. Looking forward to many more of these, which could favorably impact the average IQ level.

Facts: police used a battering ram to enter with a no-knock warrant and shot a sleeping citizen at least eight times.
Their own report: "No injuries, no forced entry."

< Sorry - no swearing - not even in images >

If you still don't get the issue, you simply support authoritarian dictatorships. Which is fine, but in that case just drop the "small government, constitution-loving true American freedom warrior" cossplay act.

I think this is one of those undisputable cases where there can be no denying there's something deeply rotten.

I wouldn't normally post in a thread I am monitoring, but I do want to address this point.
You are correct that "Whites" did not invent slavery, and also that we have inherited the word from the practice of selling Slavs to Muslims over 1000 years ago.

The people who captured and sold Slavs, were - wait for it - Vikings. Most definitely a "White" race.

I'm sorry to step in, but as you're now talking about my people, I think I better step in and say you're talking rot.

Slavs were enslaved by whites as well, yes in the same way that, and I know no-one wants to talk about it here, Africans were enslaved by other Africans. But the majority of those Slavs sold to Muslim owners were by other Muslims, particularly of the Moorish persuasion.

I did like Perlman already . For this statement...I like the man even more .

The Roman empire was based around slavery ages before Islam existed. Before that the Classical Greek empire made heavy use of slavery. At least a full millenium before that China was strongly involved in slavery. At the same time slavery was obviously a central element to the Egyptian economy. Any discussion about the etymology of the word 'slave' in a language that came into use millenia after slavery was a worldwide phenomenon is stupid. When you include serfdom and debt bondage as a form of slavery, which in my opinion they are, slavery has been a major factor in all continents for thousands upon thousands of years, and until this very day.

Obviously it should be rejected in all its forms, regardless of who is the slaver and who is the slave. I have no idea how anyone would go about reliably and objectively quantify which 'race' (which is a pretty nebulous concept to start with scientifically speaking) has been the biggest victim, nor why that is relevant to anything.
